I think it was less TCO being with Alan, and more Agentās memory of TCO hovering above Mitsiās burning remains that made Victim so certain of his interpretation that he never even felt the need to double check it was actually correct.
Because think about it: one of his best, closest friends came back from actually being involved in what happened to Mitsi, and Victim saw what he had witnessed from the perspective of Agentās own eyes. That memory scanner offered the best, most trustworthy, evidence of the ācrimeā in the world because it literally showed what was extensively a recording of the exact moment of her death and the direct aftermath. In any other situation, that would be absolutely ironclad proof. Especially for Victim, because Agent was already someone he trusted.
The only issue was that, for as great as Agentās point of view was, it wasnāt perfect. There were things he hadnāt seen, and those things had mattered. It proves that for as powerful as being able to see literal memories are, witnesses can still be wrong.
Victim hadnāt been stupid to trust Agentās memory, it was genuinely powerful evidence. It just hadnāt been complete. Agent just hadnāt seen TDL.
TCO teaming up with Alan probably had contributed to Victimās hatred of them both, and to his belief that TCO was responsible for Mitsiās death, but I donāt think it was the reason why he was so certain he checked 3 times. I think he trusted Agentās witness ātestimonyā more, and everything he learned of TCO in the years afterwards just sort of dog piled on that conviction until it had become an irrefutable fact.
So much so Victim hadnāt even felt like he had to check it when he literally had the the memory scanner on TCO.
Victim was so blinded by his certainty, it became a willful ignorance. Thatās what makes the reveal he was wrong so satisfyingly devastating; Victim had been so sure heād been right, sacrificed so much of himself in response to that belief, that the reveal that he was wrong feels like a betrayal against him. A fresh wound cut into him anew. Made worse by the fact he had numerous opportunities to find the truth early, and simply chose not to go looking for it.
I genuinely love how Alan and his team handled Victimās ignorance and the reveal. Itās so well done. It played out so beautifully. It was so much better than I couldāve ever expected.
