“I should really learn how to use one of these; people would totally take me more serious. "Jesus fucking Christ. Put the gun down. You shoot someone and you'll be arrested. Do you even have a license for that thing? Where did you fuckin' find that?"
“Don’t even think about laughing– actually, don’t even smile.”
"Not-- not laughing. Just-- I don't--....Why?"
“So, a coworker decided it was a good idea to send a nude picture to me, and now I need a new phone. And a new job. And a new memory bank would be nice. Why would he do that to me? I’m a good person. Am I rambling?”
"You could always file a report-- technically that's workplace sexual harassment. "
“Everything alright? I didn’t mean to interrupt, I just came to file a report and they pointed me over here. Sorry.”
Elijah looked up, carding a hand through his hair and shaking his head. "No-- no. IT's fine, really. Shouldn't be takin' personal calls anyways." He dug around in his drawer for a pad of blank reports before grabbing a pen. "What can I help ya' with, miss?"
Kenna frowned at how displeased Elijah seemed. “Actually,” she started, crossing her arms over her chest, “there might be some strings I can pull. My family does know the Mayor after all. Not sure if it would work, but I’m incredibly resourceful.”
Elijah looked up, arching an eyebrow at her. "You better not be fuckin' with me, Red. I swear." He said, with a tired laugh. "If you could, I'd owe you big time. Anything you want, ever."
I’m sorry, I didn’t mean to eavesdrop. Well, I wasn’t at first. I was mostly just overhearing, I swear, and —sorry, I tend to blabber a lot.
No-- no. It's fine, really. Don't worry. It wasn't like I was bein' quiet anyway-- I could've done it.
Beck paused, swaggering over. “Rough night?” She asked, rubbing his back.
Elijah took a moment, gently leaning into her touch before sighing and running his hands down his face. "Apprently I'm he worst brother in the entire world." He laughed, almost bitterly.
“Sorry, I, um– I try to make an effort not to eavesdrop, but are you alright? You sound… distressed.”
"No, no. It's fine-- I would've done the same, probably. I'm-- I'm fine, just family shit. Nothin' to worry about."
“Sounded rough.”
"Family. Little sister, actually."
“Are you sure you’re fine? Anything I can do to help? Little sisters must be tough, yeah?”
"She doesn't ask for much, so when I can't do something for her, that she really wants, it kind of sucks shit. I don't know, probably not-- unless there's a way you can miraculously get me off duty on Friday night."
Kit tried his best not to eavesdrop - well, make it apparent that he was, but the more distressing the call sounded coming from the cop, the more he found himself looking towards him. “Everything alright?”
Elijah looked up, hearing the sound of another mans voice and ran his hand down his face. The sound of the disappointment in his sisters voice burned a hole in his chest, but he tried to push it away. "Fine. Fine." He said, clearing his face and shaking his head. "She's 10-- easy to upset, I guess."
“Don’t worry about it, I wasn’t listening. I mean, I heard, but I wasn’t… Nevermind. — Oh no, I’m not here to bother you this time. Just going to get some coffee. You look like you could use some?”
"It's fine, Olivia. Relax-- I just... you surprised me. It's all good. Coffee sounds great, actually."
Call in sick, then? And then go see her. I haven’t seen my little sister in almost two years. You should see yours while you can.
I'm a cop-- you can't just call in sick when you're on duty. I told them to give me that night off, but I don't have a lot of authority yet, apparently. It--- she's gettin' an award at school and I promised I'd be there-- I don't know what to fuckin' do.
“–Lots of couples round here lately. Have you noticed them, or is it just me?”
"Mating season? -- Sht. Wait. No. That's the fuckin' spring."
I think you should totally call off work for her. Juuust sayin.
Your opinion is appreciated, mate, but that's easier said than done.
“Sing to her” Jo whispered softly on the other side, playing with her hands anxiously “Whenever my sister cries, I sing to her. It helps. Something gentle.”
Elijah hung up the phone and rubbed his hands down his face, looking over at the girl next to him. "She's upset with me, obviously-- I don't think mediocre singing will help, in this case. But, uh-- thanks. Sorry you had to hear all that."
"Little sister." He said with a shake of his head, carding his hand through her hair. "How much of that did you hear?"
