Constructs weren’t always a thing, and the first one was a little dragon candle. Short story on how they were invented under the cut
In the mountains, there was once a castle, and it's only occupant, a lonely lord.
This lord, desperate for a companion, studied and worked, whenever he had spare time, to try and make a companion to stay with him on those long lonely nights alone in the castle.
He looked at gargoyles, and their methods of making children when they have no parts, and based his spell off of that. But he couldn't just take a piece off like they do, he needed a base.
So, with that in mind, he sculpted a small dragon out of candle wax, for he had many candles. He poured so much love and thought into every little detail, carving spines and curving horns, adding wicks in interesting places, even using different colours of wax.
After a long time, he was done. He reworked the spell, again and again, to be absolutely sure it worked, before he cast the spell. It was painful, yes, to have a piece of one's soul used in a spell, but he would bear the pain, if only to have a companion for the long nights.
But alas, the spell seemed to fail, the little dragon, lovingly dubbed Candle, sat as still as stone. The lord was heartbroken, so much effort, wasted.
He turned in for the night, dejected, and cried himself to sleep. But in the middle of the night, he awoke to the sound of a little voice calling.
He scrambled out of bed, and ran to his workstation, still in his nightgown, to find his little Candle alive! He cried with joy, and they lived happily together forever after.
Big black wolf-like bodies, glowing lantern-like eyes, and the only way you hear them approaching is the noise of their chains rattling after dark... Truely, these are creatures to be feared.
Padfoot, Chain wolves, lantern dogs, these odd creatures have many names. Some people think them hostile, some think they’re benevolent. They’re not often seen, and people who insist they run into them are most often taken for crazy.
The amount of tail chains a Padfoot has, the higher among chain wolves they’re considered. Their padded feet lend to their stealth, though that’s generally negated by the clanking of chains.
There are Green and Yellow spotted mushrooms known as sound shrooms, and they are one of the most well known causes of Vocal sickness. Hence the name sound shroom.
Goblins have multiple noises they use to communicate basic things, and when they greet a friend or family member, the noise for that sounds like screaming of some sort. It's very bewildering for anyone not used to it. Though some goblins tend to learn to use common instead for friends of other races.
Gnomes decide their policies with Anti-Rule (Anti-Rule - Powerful auguries are employed to locate the most foolish and unlucky person in the realm and install them as figurehead monarch. Public policy is set as the exact opposite of whatever they command.) Though there are a few constant rules that won't change. There are advisers that go to meet other leaders instead of the ruler of the time.
Dwarves and kobolds decide their ruler with a system known as Promethean Succession (Promethean Succession - The kingdom’s greatest craftsmen compete to construct the next monarch. Every Spring, aspiring demiurges submit their creations to a tournament of physical and rhetorical prowess, with the winning creation securing the right to rule for the next year.)
Inhabitants of the halfling kingdom, especially more important figures, like to practice voice tricks. Things such as booming voices are good for speaking to a crowd, and echoing voices are an interesting, but far more tricky, trick.
Angels and Demons don't actually exist in forgotten curse, but there are, mythologically, spirits known as jia and nai that are helpful and harmful respectively.
