I've been writing stories for as long as I can remember. My goal is to create a livable income from self-publishing my books, and I hope that Patreon can be an important step in achieving it. Right now, I don't get much income from my writing (averaging less than a dollar per month, when I get anything at all), and I hope to change that. You can help, if you decide that's something you want to do! I published the novel Husk in late 2016, and that's still up for sale, if anyone I haven't yet hawked it at wants to have a look.

My latest publication (and the work I started this Patreon with) is a pair of two books: A Place in the Line, Part 1 and Part 2. It is (or they are) a nice, thick, historical romance novel. The story begins in 1919, in the immediate aftermath of World War I. It centers on a shell shocked RFC pilot and a nurse in the military hospital where he admits himself when he realizes the danger he's in from his condition.

My current project is just starting! This time around, I'm working on a creepy, ghosty, magic-laden Southern Gothic novel set in Louisiana. Aiming optimistically for a mid to late 2024 release, and this is the book I'll be providing updates and extras for until then.

Depending on which level you decide to provide help at, you'll get a variety of extras. You'll have the opportunity to have your name in a list of thanks in the publication. This will be the first place to see the title and the covers when I have them ready. There will also be excerpts and 'deleted scenes,' as well as opinion polls to vote in. There are going to be a lot of little benefits across the levels. As far as what will happen here after this novel... There'll be another. And another. And another. And I hope you'll stick around for those, too.

How to Start a Wildfire

Edom, Louisiana is a small, quiet place where secrets fester.

Most of the future that Cara Deerfield hoped for fell by the wayside a long while back, a casualty of more dire obligations. In a life riddled with loss, she fights to hold onto what little she has. For as long as Cara can remember, she’s been visited by dreams of a burning tree – the enormous live oak in front of the abandoned house right down the hill. When a stranger moves in, she catches people in town talking about him like he’s some kin to the boogeyman. It doesn’t stop her from meeting him or trying to befriend him. After all, whispers have gone around about her own family.

Coming home is no easy thing for Thierry Cotton. He’s been gone for a very long time, and returning to Edom feels like slogging into darkness. When the woman who lives in the only other house on his backroad comes drifting into his yard, it’s like she’s set a spark to tinder. There’s something about her, something familiar that draws him. He can’t ignore her any more than he can ignore what goes on in his home or the woods surrounding them. There are things that he needs to face, though, before he can find any sort of peace with the past that drove him away in the first place. He has work to do.

There’s always been something seething beneath the surface of Edom, smothered under blissful disregard and sweet Louisiana manners. When the unthinkable happens, when it seems the community has a murderer in its midst, some old ideals rear their ugly heads. What was left in the dark long ago must come to light. And as evil flirts with Edom right out in the open, Cara and Thierry find themselves connected through the past and present in more ways than one.

How would y'all feel about some lovely small town horror?

Faolkirk is a quiet town - or it used to be. There have been legends of wolves in the forest for as long as the town has stood. While the Forest Service claims the stories are just that, those 'stories' have begun leaving increasingly grisly bodies to be found. Lizzie and Aurie are the only things that make Faolkirk tolerable for one another. They've been best friends for most of their lives, and they're so close to graduation that they can taste freedom on the air. Plans for the future are on the verge of becoming reality. But when the dark becomes a real thing to fear, they learn the hard way that the legends are only a thin veneer for truth.

I wrote Wolf Among Them a few years ago and set it aside because I was trying to concentrate on another project. I gave it a final edit because I really wanted to get it ready and published for spooky season. It's available in paperback and ebook format.
