The one that got away...almost
Sometimes you find a part of yourself in another person, and it disrupts your soul.
It’s not quite like looking in a mirror, or finding a corresponding puzzle piece.
It’s like looking through a fogged up window and realising you only feel so warm because it’s so cold outside.
It’s like turning off a light and realising you can navigate a room in pitch darkness based purely on memories you never knew you made.
It’s that immediate emotional trigger that comes with a nostalgic smell or a forgotten song.
A magnetism develops beyond any sense of control,
Logic is thrown away, bruised, ignored, and foolishly forgotten.
And we run, and we fight, because surrendering is not an option.
The thread unravels, the distance grows, and it all remains unbroken, untouched.
But skin remembers, eyes connect, breath catches and we bite our lips.
You resist, you indulge, you regret, you crave.
and we lie side by side, face to face, eyes locked,
miles and miles apart.
