progress venture week 12

everything has been the same

what is working? I have decided that I need to do some research a head of time for the spring and summer to make sure I am fully equipped. I also believe that all the research I have been gathering has been helping me in understanding of what can help me fully become profitable in this business. what is not working? Still there is the job of doing it alone or without any help. This week I under went a problem with the weather where there was no snow on the ground for a couple of days which caused me to lose a couple of days with no work. so weather is hard to work around. how do you feel the project is coming? I can say that through the first weeks of winter where I can technically do work, has been good but the fact that there has been little to no snow means that my work is being put a side. what are you learning about running a business? what is working?

what is working?

The main thing that started to work was making a social relationship with the people I am helping but enough to know that it is still work. if have done some research on products that could help in making the work easier and environmentally beneficial for their properties.

what is not working?

Still there is the job of doing it alone or without any help.

This is still the same.

I think I am being very efficient in my work; I have planned to make more work in the month of march. Which could only mean that the work is coming in and so is the profit.

what are you learning about running a business?

I am learning how to properly organize myself. Money isn’t as hard to make as you might think. The customer is not always right but is always deserving of respect. I have come to notice that it takes a lot of time and effort when starting a business.

what are you learning about yourself?

A lot of problems have happened during the last couple of weeks with weather and snow coverage which made me understand that I can solve these problems easily and efficiently to make sure I don’t lose any work.

Progress of Start Up Venture

what is working?

Having a reasonable price for people all people to be able to afford. I can go over my allotted time (at most 8 hour days) when working for myself which can mean more work but more profit. Have a good budget when it comes to buying products or other equipment.

what is not working?

Weather is a problem that is not working for this business. Has a job that requires you to work outside it can effect the chance to a profit and work. It can be hard to do the job alone/ without help.

how do you feel the project is coming?

I think I am being very efficient in my work; I have planned to make more work in the month of march. Which could only mean that the work is coming in and so is the profit.

what are you learning about running a business?

I am learning how to properly organize myself through availability and how long I should be using my time at one place. Money isn’t as hard to make as you might think. The customer is not always right but is always deserving of respect.

what are you learning about yourself?

I have options, I get to do my ideas when making the business better. I wont know everything and that’s okay. I have patience. I can take risks and live with the consequences.

financing my start-up

In the this particularly business I would mostly ask for a loan or for family sponsorship to help with any larger finical needs.

This business doesn’t need a whole lot of knowledge to run, many teenagers do this job in the summer to because its an 15 to 20 dollars an hour to fix up someone yard. But when it comes to making it a business that it profitable you have to be able to work hard and smarter then others. It helps that I know quite a bit about the equipment and how to clean up a yard because of my experience of doing this type of work in high school which will help me in getting loans or family help.

When it comes to growing my business, I would suggest getting more people to join the work I do, by providing salaries, insurance, new equipment, or even franchising. To potential increase my profitability I would want to gain a decent reputation with my clients through the following 1 or 2 years to gain enough respect from the customers with the location I am at it would be very reasonable. I would want to keep my credit score high and by doing that I would recommend that we try to stay out of debt pay back what I can If I am given a loan or pay back what my family have given me. I think I would have to plan how to run the business on my own to figure out how much I can make in a year or 2 years before I can fully understand how long it will take to pay of the loan. For the personal guarantee of course I would sign because it would be my responsibility to make sure it gets paid off, not workers, and not may families responsibility because I am the one taking it out to use it for the business that I am running.

For my business I would need quite a lot of equipment to start just the essentials like a lawn mower and lawn trimmer, and they don’t need to be the best equipment, but they need to be able to do the job well. My locations doesn’t say in need any kind of permits unless I have a bigger corporate where I pay employees.

When getting equipment I can go to stores that provide a decent products like Canadian tire, home depot, pro-power Canada inc, and many more locations.

I would make the company known by using application like Tumblr to get my business to be more world renown. But in an easier sense it would be better to start at a smaller pace of providing only a local business for now. I do not need to secure any selling space as I will be creating these pieces out of my home.

The point of this business is to allow people to enjoy their yards without the actual work of doing it.

All locations are an hour away from where we are located.

Prices for this type of work is normally $50 an hour. But can differ depending on the size of the yard ranging from $48 to $211 on how large the yard is. I could not find anything on what the prices are for any of these companies.

the websites they use are Instagram, Facebook, and houzz (online community and software for architecture; interior design and decorating; landscape design and home improvement.)

Hutten is a company that positions themselves in the center of all kinds of landscaping whether it be any season. They do anything like gardening, mowing, plowing, lights, and any water type installations (pools, sinks)

The company has a really good standing on Instagram they have 465 posts 2,142 followers and are following 877. Most of the posts they have are of the installations they have done, and about the many incredible workers they have. They seem to be consistent posting 1 to 2 posts a month but potentially do more. They engage the customer with prompting questions. The postings on Facebook are the same as the ones on Instagram which isn’t bad but can become repetitive.

They have a 3.7 out of 5 stars with 3 reviews.

Most of the market positioning this company is portraying is that they provide lawn mowing, pest control, seeding, yard cleanup, and other yard/lawn services.

strengths and weaknesses

I have been told that I am able to communicate with people of all departments, I think that the ability of working in a grocery store for the past three years has been able to give me the ability to learn, listen, and view other peoples communication styles and I am a really great at adapting to any kind of work. Able to not be afraid to ask for help or questions and be patient when needed in a situation if someone is elderly, I take it upon myself to be courteous to them and take my time when they speak to me or if they need anything. I am great at team work if the job is requiring that but do like to work allow because I don’t have to rely on anybody else when doing a job. Which in turn can lead to taking on too much of the workload which can be viewed as a weakness in anytime of operation. I can include that I do tend to procrastinate in doing this I can confirm that I do end up rushing at the last minute to complete tasks, needing help to complete tasks, unprepared for meetings, and low productivity. When it does come to some work, I can be cautious in situations its not the worst thing to have but could cause a problem in making the right choice of production.
