ELIZABETH KENNEDY.
Growing up, Lizzie didnât have much in the way of female role models, except for Elle Bryant. She was the beautiful, confident older sister that Lizzie never had, and when she was younger, she would follow Elle around like a little puppy dog, wanting to do whatever the older girl did.
Of course, as Lizzie grew older, and the age difference between the two became unimportant, she began to see the woman as a friend â and god, did Lizzie need friends. Packed into an insular network of shallow, mean people, Lizzie saw Elle as a breath of fresh air, someone that she could use as an escape from her upbringing, despite how closely theyâd been raised.
Chuckling softly at Elleâs blunt way of speaking, Liz tapped her fingers on the table, eyes swimming around the fairly busy establishment. âHonestly, thatâs just what I need right now. Just pure fun; no pity hugs or sympathetic looks from people I donât even know,â she recited, uncharacteristically bitter from her usual tone. Everyone around her treated her like she was some sort of limited-edition glass figurine on the verge of shattering into a million pieces. Part of that was true, but what they didnât know was that she had experience in picking up the pieces. Gluing herself back together was basically muscle memory at this point; it was why she was able to be so cheerful all the time.
Glancing up at the woman, she gave her a half-smile, bolting out of her seat, hands still on the table. âCome on. I am in desperate need of a drink, and Iâm sure you could use one too.â
There were only a few people Elle had a connection to personally, without also being connected business-wise. It was rather sad, now that she thought of it like this, but who could she really trust anyway? The fewer people Elle had personal involvement with, the lesser was the chance of being hurt and disappointed. She certainly didnât have the time to feel either of those again. Despite her attitude nowadays, Elle wasnât a cold-hearted bitch. If anything, she was much too emotional for her own good. At least whenever she was within the walls of her home and on her own. But success came with sacrifices, the brunette had learned that the hard way. And given that sheâd lost the only person who had kept her grounded and sane for so many years, there really wasnât a reason not to appear like the ice queen.Â
With Lizzie however, Elle had no reason to act like someone else. Their evening would eventually go down the road to âthe emotionalâ and even though Elle wasnât directly involved with the ex-boyfriend, her heart hurt for Elizabeth. In her mind, Lizzie was still the closest thing she would ever have to a baby sister. While Elle hadnât lost a significant other, she had lost her mom and that feeling of pain was something she would never be able to forget. The sorryâs, the hugs and the sad faces would never bring back a loved one and they certainly never helped with the pain, if anything, they were the painful reminder that her mother would never come back. That the loss was real.Â
Distraction wasnât bound to make it better, but it would distract Lizzieâs mind for a couple of moments and hopefully long enough to ease the pain for a short while. âYou know everything is better when alcohol is involved,â Elle replied with a grin, her hand smoothing down her dress as she got up from her seat,  âLetâs just sit at the bar. That way weâre close to the source without the danger of running out of drinks.â

âOh, I think that color looks great on you. You should totally get it,â he said to the other with an encouraging grin, a collared shirt in his own hand as he inspected the price tag.Â
@catalinastarter·
âToo bad itâs not for me then.â Elle replied, a small grin on her lips,  âDo you think a burgundy colored tie would go better than a maroon colored one? I canât decide.â Who decided that gifting a shirt would be a good idea anyway?Â

An open gate, open front door, pieces of glass on her kitchen floor. All of those things shouldâve kept Elle from going into her house further, but thinking she was capable of taking on whatever this was on her own, she wandered off into her living room. Her pillows were thrown and ripped apart, files thrown all over the room.. it was an overall mess. When she then heard what sounded like a thump upstairs, she immediately left the inside and ran back to her car. The only person she could think of calling was Jonah; not only was he in a capable situation to handle this (being a detective and all), but heâd also manage to get her to calm down. Because internally, Elle was freaking the hell out. No one had ever invaded her space like this. So she waited in her car for his to stop behind her, before getting out again, afraid whoever was inside could come out of there from the front.  âDid you bring your gun? Please tell me you brought your gun.â

If Damon had been famished before the food had been brought out, he was anything but now. The multiple courses had been delicious, and slowly the guests were beginning to move from their tables, some mingling with friends and guests around the room, and others migrating back towards the dance floor to continue with what theyâd started prior to the meal. With mild curiosity, he began to wander around the room, wine glass in hand as he kept a keen eye out for a familiar face or someone who seemed in need of a conversation. It was then that his gaze paused on a guest still seated at their table, just them opposite a couple whose heads were close together in eager conversation. It seemed like a private moment, but theyâd picked a strange place to carry it out. Without hesitation he took a seat beside the other person, setting his glass down on the table. âAre you feeling trapped at your table or are you waiting for something in particular?â He questioned calmly, allowing his gaze to flicker to the couple opposite them. âOr is this encounter too much like a telenovela to ignore?â
For someone whoâd much rather sit at home in her pajamas than all dressed up here, Elle put on her poker face and pretended to be interested in the conversations around her table whenever someone decided to turn their attention onto her. In all honesty, sheâd be fine eating her food in silence and only pretending to be in on their conversations. Listening to people talk about insignificant things just bored her. Usually, Elle Bryant would be the life of the party. But tonight, nothing seemed to satisfy her in the slightest. Well until the couple to her left decided to argue about going to hook up in the bathroom to spice things up.  âThe latter.â Elle answered simply, recognizing the voice as Damonâs,  âApparently he wonât get down to business in the bathroom with his girlfriend. Now sheâs pouting and heâs trying to make up for it by suggestions to try the different cheeses on the cheese platter.âÂ

âHonestly, what can you say, you know? It is what it is, really.â Miles shrugged, in doubt of what to say to the question he was posed right then. Throwing his hands up in resignation, âWhat do you think?âÂ
âAbsolutely absurd, if you ask me.â Elle shrugged in answer to whatever the other pair said before pulling Miles away, flashing an apologetic smile,  âDidnât even understand a word of what they just said. Was he even speaking our language? You know Iâm intelligent, but was he just making up words to impress us? God, donât tell me it worked on you.â

âI swear to God, if you move even a muscle!â Lourdes threatened her friend as she dragged them into what she considered to be the perfect lighting spot, asking the photographer to wait for a bit while she adjusted herself and her friend into the pose. âNow smize and make Tyra Banks proud!âÂ
âYou do know,â Elle started speaking through her teeth as she smiled and got herself into position,  âThat nobody will even know itâs us. Itâs a masquerade, after all.â Yet, she stood in pose as the photographer took their picture with a bright flash.  âGeez, nobody mentioned going blind.â

Grant: I still might actually kill that asshole though.
Grant: Alright fine, I'm omw. But you owe me
Elle: He asked me for money. I told him to ask one of his side bitches.
Elle: Don't know if that's considered being 'annoying' or not.
Elle: I'm not going to hold you back honestly.
Elle: Thanks. Already regretting it.

In a world filled with Kennedys, Hirschs and Bryants (plus all of their minions or people who have been paid off by one or the other), there wasnât much room for any real and meaningful connections within their community. However, Elle had always been taught to work hard and not to take things granted. Even more so because her father wasnât making anything easy for her. It was a nice thing to surround herself with people who shared the same values in an ocean of shallow people. Elizabeth Kennedy was one of those people. Nowadays, Elle would find herself actively trying to get out of conversations instead of holding them up, afraid that that topic would come up. No, she didnât want to talk about it. No matter how many times it was brought up. She was dealing with the end of her marriage in her own way; by herself. On her own. Without anyoneâs opinions. End of story. With Lizâs return to Catalina, Elle saw her chance to test the waters again. Go out there, be anywhere else than home and she wouldnât go that way for just anyone. Besides her own problems, Elle knew that Liz needed something to take her mind off the recent loss in her life. Sheâd seen Liz at the funeral and to see her friend so broken? It wasnât something Elle wanted to relive anytime soon; or ever.  âHey, hot stuff.â The brunette approached the stool her friend was sitting on,  âVery happy to see you. Wonât ask how youâre doing because weâre not going there tonight. Weâll talk about anything but and whenever we leave this place and you want to, I donât know, punch someone weâll do that.â
aaron reed.Â
âHell, huh?â He looked over at the brunette with the shake of his head, âIt couldnât have been that bad.â He said, with a shrug, knowing full well it could have been. He didnât know the ins and outs of her job, though, he had a feeling it might have been a little more intense that he could of handled. âYes it is.â He agreed. âThereâs something about the beach.â He said, as the waves whoosed around, âI guess thatâs why people have those wave machines though.â The man laughed, âmakes sense now,â he joked, pretended heâs never thought of the concept before.Â
For someone who truly considered herself to be a workaholic, the meeting sheâd just left was pure hell. Elle could put so much of her energy into something productive instead of sitting in a room with middle-aged men who all believe they know better than their C.O.O, just because sheâs Thomas Bryant's daughter. It was ridiculous and people were definitely going to get fired in the morning.  âTrust me,â Elle started, although he really didnât have any reason to trust a word of what she was saying,  âIt was hell on earth. I really donât feel like complaining about my job when yours is probably a lot more draining than mine.â Probably also more rewarding, but well, she would choose her job over his any day either way.  âGod, real waves beat the mechanical ones though. Are they still doing fake waves at public swimming pools? What a shame. They could never achieve this with machines.â
