the graveyard of my drafts...... an elle & her mother web weave, a necklace catalogue, a bitchy vent about ppl misinterpreting gideon's character...... some gems i feel
every once in a while i find a fics i wrote when i was procrastinating on school or life and i stumbled upon one i started about hotch essentially chasing elle down during his retirement (i think i was on an unsub elle kick or something its unclear)
while im not as big of a fan of the concept now im still SO obsessed with hotch and elle. they're so similar and yet so different. i always ponder on how their friendship wouldve been had the whole shooting thing not happened and elle had stuck around (and possibly grown into a more measured individual). idk where im going with this
-r.e.o
reo anon, i made sure to save this ask bc i kinda went offline for a few months...!
what's struck me in your message is "their friendship" because my feeling watching them in s1 - 2 is that they get along, but are still just coworkers. worse than coworkers, boss and employee. but that has made me think about them in much later seasons, like s6+ where so many others have left and they have more of a equal footing. especially because they didn't have a strong mentor-mentee relationship (not like gideon and elle imo)
they ARE similar. i think that elle is more rule-abiding than you'd think and hotch is less straight-laced than you'd think (COUGH 1x17 a real rain COUGH).
if it's not too personal, do feel free to share the fic 👐
much love xx

Mischaracterization getting so brutal I'm about to ask people for sources and citations on their wrong opinions
What is your source for the idea that he would fucking say that
aaron and elle had easily one of the most interesting relationships of any two characters on the show. i'm especially thinking of season 1, episode 17: a real rain. this episode is actually so delicious because the unsub is a vigilante court reporter hunting people who got acquitted and there's a whole b plot about a past case where hotch talked an unsub down and he went on to get acquitted and kill another victim, right?
so, they all go to dinner, and elle's talking about how many rapists she saw walk during her time with the sex crimes division, and jj says, "yeah, but it's a long way from feeling that way to actually killing somebody." and, right after jj says that, hotch says "no, not really," and later that episode, he kills an unsub who's about to surrender because he's clearly thinking of that past case with the unsub he talked down.
like. it just parallels what happened with elle later so well. he was kinda the only one who really understood elle, he was the one who cleaned her blood off the wall, and in the end, he was the one who was the harshest with her. and then just a few years later, he had to experience what she experienced with the fisher king from george foyet... they're not quite narrative foils, but their narratives are going around in circles kind of. what happens with him happens with her happens with him.
this is part of why i don't really understand when people say elle's ending doesn't make sense or isn't satisfying. like it's actually astoundingly thematically tight in the context of the rest of her time on the show, especially for a show that went on to throw SO much bullshit at the wall that made no sense.
@kazsspirals you’re like my only cm moot so
fuck it au where gideon and elle reconnected sometime before 10.13 and had been kinda investigating cold cases together. doing a little detective work. reluctantly, but they both know that they're not going to turn their backs on someone. they're sitting in a diner or a public library or a car and it's like old times, but it's really not. it's different. gideon has a lot of regrets and wants to open up, but he's not good at that even when he tries, and elle just doesn't even want to try. she won't let it be like last time, when she thought they were close and got burnt.
also. i can't explain why but in this AU its important to me that elle never went back to law enforcement. she's now in her 40s and spent the last 5-10yrs doing trucker logistics.
