I have to get this off my chest.

Defending Bella on the internet isn’t enough. I swear I need to start fighting people. And that person who apparently lost the role to Bella joining in on the bullying? If Ellie were real, she would punch someone like that, so it looks like the casting team had some good judgement there.

Anyway, Bella is doing an incredible job as Ellie, especially in the last episode. I was legit frightened. God, I hate that I’m going to say this because it makes me feel like I’m turning into my parents saying, “Back in my day!”, but I think the binge-release model of most shows today has absolutely fried people’s ability to consume a narrative that isn’t laid out in its completeness before them.

There is a difference between “hmm, I’m a little concerned with how this is going, let’s see how this unfolds” and “OMG they ruined it! Ellie is too nice, they threw away cold revenge obsessed Ellie!”

I knew revenge Ellie was coming. I knew they were adding extra time and setting things up with Dina differently, so the gut punch of her switch would hit all the harder. The show has added this depth in many places, like Joel trying to get up and Ellie crawling over to him. Like expanding upon characters in Season 1. It was so OBVIOUS that this is where they were headed. It's a narrative build-up. And even if it wasn’t, that is still no excuse to bully an actor.

I don’t have anything against people who expressed concern or who just don't like the show. But it’s wild how some seem unable to handle seeing a narrative play out anymore unless it’s all available at once.

And I don't really care if this comes off mean, I have no tolerance for bullying. Bella proved you all wrong, and I hope that, if anything, this has taught people some patience and human decency.
