To say that Elliot was born with a silver spoon in his mouth would be an understatement. His father’s pride and joy since his very first moment on earth, Elliot was born to be spoiled rotten. The first and only child of the eldest Chapman, born into a family that had established itself and prospered in Providence Peak for generations, he was destined for greatness. His grandfather and father had planned his life for him - he would be raised into a fine young gentleman, study law, and take over the family’s law firm when the time was right.
The life of the elite in Providence Peak had heavily influenced little Elliot. He was used to having everything he wished for at a snap of his fingers. The best toys, the best house, the best clothing, the best tutors. He knew nothing but the best, and that was what he always wanted to be. Maybe it was at his father’s insistence more than anything. How could he ever be proud of Elliot if he was nothing but the best?
His life was filled to the brim with extracurriculars. Football, swimming, debate club - there was nothing he hadn’t been pushed to try. But Elliot could not complain. How could he? It was what would make his father and grandfather happy, even if they were barely ever available to see his triumphs. People would do anything to have the life he had. The life of the popular good-looking kid who had everything one could ever want, and was only bound to have even more with time.
Life, however, was never perfect. That was something he had learned when he realized that no amount of materialistic things could replace the presence of his family. They loved him, he had no doubt, but some days he felt like his sole existence was based on the fact that he had to inherit the family company one day. And even if law was not what he wanted to do deep down, that is what he ended up doing. Just to make his parents and his family proud.
His days at college, away from his family, provided Elliot with a whole new level of freedom that he had never known. Surely, he was free to do as he pleased in Providence Peak, but he had a family name to live up to. He could never do anything that embarrassed the Chapman’s, that somehow could affect the family name and their firm. Yet being miles away from home meant he was no longer bound to his family’s image. And for a few years, he could be his own person without hiding in the shadow of his surname.
Now that he’s back in Providence Peak, he’s finally living up to his family’s dreams. He has taken his place in the family business, building up his own clientele and spending more time with his father than he ever had in his entire life. Maybe his personality was somewhat disappointing for the prim and proper Chapmans, but he was doing his best to make them proud at work. Even if he was stuck doing something that wasn’t his first choice, he was absolutely doing his utmost to smash it. For it was unacceptable for Elliot to be anything but the best.
