asa tucks her free hand into her pocket as she stands on the sidewalk, a sandwich held in the other. across the street, police & ambulance lights flicker in the darkness outside of a rundown apartment building. the chaos inside isn’t her work, for once, & she isn’t entirely certain if she’s paused to watch because she’s curious or bored. she glances over when someone else stops to observe, swallowing her bite. “i’ve heard that the building is haunted,” she says dryly, lips twisting with a hint of a smile as she glances briefly over at them. “maybe there was a ghost attack.”
𝐚 𝐥𝐨𝐭 𝐨𝐟 𝐜𝐢𝐭𝐢𝐞𝐬 𝐜𝐥𝐚𝐢𝐦 themselves to never sleep, but that is an undeniable truth in tartarus. there's always something happening and more often than not it's not something you want to get involved in unless you need to. it's with no surprise at all that dennis takes the scene unfolding in front of him; just another tartarus evening. he, of course, isn't the only one that feels that way. the thief finds himself moving closer to the woman, a smile plays on his lips when he catches her words. ❛ guess it's time to call the ghostbusters, ❜ he quips. mirthful hues shift from the building to the woman and then back. ❛ i was hoping it would have been a zombie outbreak this time. ❜

though there’s a smile on his lips, his relaxed demeanour does little to assuage her concerns. “mhm-” she clicks her tongue against the roof of her mouth, shaking her head gently. their definitions of food were likely to be fairly different. “i’ll heat up some leftovers.” the response leaves no room for negotiation and she turns her back to him, digging tupperware out of the fridge. slipping past her nephew, she gives his arm a gentle squeeze as she passes and pops the tub of last night’s chilli into the microwave. “have you seen your brother since…” her question hangs, unfinished. since the wake. “he’s not returning my calls.”
𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐛𝐨𝐲 𝐬𝐡𝐚𝐤𝐞𝐬 𝐡𝐢𝐬 𝐡𝐞𝐚𝐝, but the smile tugging at his lips is fond and genuine. ❛ i can hear the disapproval loud and clear, ❜ he jokes at the single noise the woman makes. ❛ i'll never say no to free food, ❜ it is true, and he doesn't think turning it down would stop the woman. dennis smiles yet again at his aunt she passes him and takes a seat on one of the kitchen island stools. ❛ yeah, ❜ he nods. mostly because the oldest of zane's sons had moved back into the family house. ❛ you know, reese, always busy with something. especially now sara made him a capo. ❜ it's an attempt to appease his aunt, and better than telling amelie that reese is most likely ignoring her as he would do with any other stallion.

closed for desmond titan / @elvsium !
“desmond,” he interrupts irritably, a rare use of his brother’s full name as he leans forwards on the railing of his favorite sailboat. “will you please just shut up & get in the goddamn boat ? “ his temper hasn’t sparked yet, but his annoyance is rising, & he tries to swallow it back down. desmond isn’t who he’s angry with, not really, & he pinches the bridge of his nose for a moment, sighing. “let’s call it a business meeting. we have a lot to talk about, little bro.” his lips twist with the beginning of a familiar smile at the ridiculous nickname, used half to pacify, half to antagonize.
he does have business to discuss. zane, & revenge, & … sara. but if there is a part of him that only called because he needs wants a moment alone to talk to the only brother he has left, neither of them have to acknowledge it out loud. it’s good to see des, sharp as always & — alive. very, very alive, a simple fact that shouldn’t still feel like a little miracle, but does.
𝐝𝐞𝐬𝐦𝐨𝐧𝐝 𝐝𝐨𝐞𝐬𝐧'𝐭 𝐦𝐚𝐤𝐞 𝐚 𝐡𝐚𝐛𝐢𝐭 out of venturing outside of his territory, and even less of coming whenever one of his brothers calls — brother, singular, he has to remind himself —, but that's exactly what he's doing. he is not ready to acknowledge why it had been so easy for donny to get him there. ❛ i respect your dedication to the role, captain. but don't you still have a perfectly functioning house where we could have met? ❜ he's asking when the other interrupts him. there's a satisfaction at the older titan's annoyance that is very much reminiscent of being the younger brother, but he's certain donny feels his own variation of that at using the nickname. he doesn't rush the steps that take him on board, but donny is right, they have a lot to talk about. the man is the only one who understands what he's feeling and who knows what he wants. ❛ have some manners, at least offer me a drink, ❜ he requests as soon as he's face to face with his brother. desmond doesn't ask how the other is doing, but sharp eyes study the man searching for a non-verbal answer.

a bare foot connects with his calf, not sharp enough to hurt but certainly plenty to ensure he’s awake. palms are pressed under her cheek, flush against the pillow, as honeyed hues fix upon his face. “coffee-” it’s a request, not a question. she puts out, that at least earns her coffee in the morning. “your turn.” just to reiterate her point, she kicks him again, encouraging grin forming on her lips.
𝐝𝐞𝐧𝐧𝐢𝐬 𝐢𝐬 𝐡𝐨𝐥𝐝𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐭𝐨 𝐭𝐡𝐞 last residue of sleep when he's rudely brought to consciousness by the girl. the titan groans in displeasure and turns his head to press his face into his pillow, refusing to part ways completely with slumber. that, of course, proves to be fruitless. ❛ coffee is overrated, ❜ he quips, voice still muffled by fabric. he knows he's only postponing the inevitable, erissa can be quite demanding when she wants. the second kick comes and that finally gets him to turn to her. ❛ you know, that is not the kind of good morning i was expecting. ❜ he moves to sit against the headboard. ❛ how much do you want that coffee? ‘cause i’m sure i can offer something better and not have to go all the way to the kitchen to get it, ❜ he teases.

his words hit home. she’s not going to insult desmond, it’s stupid and it’s only going to dig her grave faster. her eyes meet his, and any doubt in her mind is erased. fuck. so lania signs, because desmond knows her too well for her to keep up this cold exterior. “it was just sex.” she begins, not moving away from her spot near the entrance of his office. her mind still hasn’t fully processed it all, she doesn’t want to. lania has never been in this position before and that’s terrifying. “it doesn’t change who i’m loyal to. you know i’d never go back to them.” there’s a hint of hurt in her voice, but she tries to hide it. lania doesn’t like that he thinks she’d bend that easily, but she reminds herself that desmond’s caution is what drew her into following him. she’s not stupid, she knows what situation she’s in. she wants to say more, but the assassin bites her tongue. sometimes less is more, and she’s not going to babble herself into some sort of spiral. instead she takes a deep breath and stays calm, bright eyes not leaving his.
𝐡𝐞𝐫 𝐰𝐨𝐫𝐝𝐬 𝐩𝐫𝐨𝐦𝐩𝐭 𝐡𝐮𝐦𝐨𝐫𝐥𝐞𝐬𝐬 𝐥𝐚𝐮𝐠𝐡𝐭𝐞𝐫; if the woman truly believes that, he has considerably overestimated her ability to stay rational. ❛ is that really what you've been telling yourself? you can't possibly be that naive, volkova. ❜ there's simply too much history between the two for that to even be possible. ❛ you can't possibly think it would be fine for you to rekindle a relationship with the titan's underboss. ❜ it's the type of thing one might have to explain to a new soldier, not to someone who's been around for as long as milania has. a one-night stand with a low-level member of the other syndicates could be overlooked, but not this. desmond doesn't bother commenting on the fact she acts as if going back to the titans would be an option; as if one could simply leave the souls with as much knowledge about their activities as she has, the woman should know staying alive wouldn't be a possibility. ❛ felix knows he makes you vulnerable, he knows he can explore that, use you. and you're just inviting him in to do just that, ❜ he affirms. those are all things he thought he had already taught her years before.

Location: The streets of uptown Tartarus Open!
Tartarus was beginning to disagree with him. After all this time, after all these years.
Ivan cut a bleak figure under a store canopy. Tall but ropey, clad all in black, he looked like someone had snatched a graveyard statue of death itself and propped it against a coffee house window. A strange sight to behold, eye catching in that terrible, familiar way of seeing something that looked human but just wasn’t quite right.
The Assassin eyed the slash of sideways rain that cut the sky like a knife, grey and cold as corpse skin, the weather was horrific and unusual for California, but it was also nice. It reminded him of Russia. Snow would have been better, but you can’t have everything . He stroked a leather finger across his jaw, drying the up splash of rain that had landed there with a grimace.
Ivan had not turned his head, but instead had heard the approaching person on the wind. Like the strike of a match in the dark. Eyes like two piece of chipped onyx glanced left and lingered on them. Silence. Rain bouncing of car top roofs the only sound.
“Terrible weather were having.” Ivan said, accent thicker due to the lower octave. His tone was very nonchalant though, in that casual way that suggested he was going to start prying if given a chance.
𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐰𝐞𝐚𝐭𝐡𝐞𝐫 𝐢𝐬𝐧'𝐭 𝐨𝐧𝐞 𝐲𝐨𝐮'𝐝 expect from california, grey clouds hiding the usual sun and heavy rain washing the streets of tartarus, but desmond doesn't mind it. he's always preferred the days like that — some would say it fit his demeanor better —, and the excuse they provide to stay inside. yet, here he is braving the rain, and facing the titans' assassin seems to be his unsavory reward. out of all the people that had chosen to stay with zane instead of joining him in the souls, ivan is one of the few that had truly affected him. the two men had been close, there had been trust and loyalty there. or at least that's what he once thought. ❛ you can't even predict california summers, these days, ❜ he replies coldly. he doesn't want to be there and he wants even less to hold a conversation with the man. ❛ ivan. it's been a while. ❜

she should probably have better manners, but the world she was raised in had such odd rules that manners didn’t suit her. why would she ask to see her family? desmond would never hurt her and she had no concept of someone’s personal time. maybe she should work on that. “she’s at the shop now getting all the tune ups.” cherry was her baby, and lux always took impeccable care of her car. but her smile dropped at the mention of her dad, and the red head glanced to the floor. “he’ll make me stop, uncle des, and this means a lot to me.” she finally looks back up at him, eyes filled with genuine emotion. lux was so often only a girl of happiness and shallow pleasures, but racing was different, and she couldn’t lose it.
𝐡𝐞 𝐧𝐨𝐝𝐬 𝐚𝐭 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐠𝐢𝐫𝐥'𝐬 assurance, if he was a little more paranoid he might have checked that himself, but he trusts the girl, she loves that car of hers too much not to do it properly. ❛ make sure to take it for a ride first. ❜ he still finds himself saying albeit unnecessary. desmond doesn't try to deny it, they both know that's most likely what would happen if donny found out and he wouldn't blame his brother. the races are dangerous, and, as much as he cares about his niece, he can't ask of his own drivers to pull back just because lux is there. ❛ maybe it's time you consider a new hobby, ❜ he comments with a raised eyebrow. it's only when he sees her eyes that he considers this might mean more to the girl. ❛ there are other types of racing. ❜ safer ones, legal ones.

CLOSED STARTER FOR ( @elvsium - desmond titan ) the pantry at the styx ( do they have one? idk. just some room with food ~ ), late afternoon.
Kivanç had just woken up from crashing at one of the rooms at the Styx after a race last night and was now craving for something sweet. A coffee and donut run would’ve been sensible ( surely, Dila would’ve loved to have been bought something, too ) but he needed to check the pantry first. His spending habits were easily replenishing his non-existent bank account; he’s starting to learn not to pay for things if he could get the free version of them.
“You know, someone really needs to do the groceries ‘round here,” he muses as he rummages through the dusty cabinets. “I know we sell drugs and pit people against each other for fun but saltine crackers and digestibles? That’s the real crime here.”
𝐝𝐞𝐬𝐦𝐨𝐧𝐝 𝐝𝐨𝐞𝐬𝐧'𝐭 𝐡𝐚𝐯𝐞 𝐤𝐢𝐝𝐬, 𝐡𝐞 has painstakingly taken precautions to avoid such situation, but there are days that it's exactly how it feels. he's had already dealt with his niece earlier that day and now, on the rare occasion he ventures into the pantry, he's met with a complaint that could have come from a spoiled teenager. considering the owner of the voice, it isn't that far from it, despite kivanç’s actual age. he doesn't look up from the coffee he's just made for himself. ❛ it's nice of you to offer, tekin, ❜ he muses, finally turning to the younger male. no, he doesn't care if the other hasn't actually done it. ❛ don't forget to get more coffee, we're running low. ❜
𝐑𝐄𝐄𝐒𝐄 𝐓𝐈𝐓𝐀𝐍 .
there was a time where he would have laughed at his uncles joke. back when they were much closer than they are now and they both understood exactly how it felt to be underestimated and unappreciated by zane. now though, those laughs and jokes between them are ashes scattered down the chasm of space that their family’s split had created. he doesn’t have jokes for the man, and he doesn’t even know if he believes his next words. he shakes his head, scoffing. “wish i could believe that. i would never have thought it of you once, but i don’t know you that well anymore.” that was the harsh truth right there, and that was largely his fault. he couldn’t deal with the fact that they could leave, have a life and legacy of their own, but he would always been zane’s son. this would always be his legacy, to be a titan, to maintain what had been built by his grandfather, demond’s father. whether the split had happened or not, it was always supposed to be his. the waver has him swallowing thickly, eyes dropping from his uncle to his hands, gripped tightly together in front of him. “don’t come in here and start spouting that family is still family. the fact that we shared blood, the fact that you and he shared blood? doesn’t mean shit anymore.”
𝐝𝐞𝐬𝐦𝐨𝐧𝐝 𝐤𝐧𝐨𝐰𝐬 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐰𝐨𝐫𝐝𝐬 𝐚𝐫𝐞𝐧'𝐭 said intending to hurt him, the boy is simply stating facts; they don't know each other well anymore. in the past five following the split between the brothers, reese had made it his goal not only to have no contact with him but to nurture hatred for his uncles. even during the times when the three syndicates had called for a truce it had been hard for desmond to get to the kid. ❛ that is fair, you don't need to believe me. ❜ the man wasn't expecting that to happen anyway, especially not when the accusation had come straight from reese's mother. the older titan watches the faint change in the younger one's demeanor; reese would hate to hear it, but it's impossible not to see his brother on him sometimes. ❛ maybe not to you. ❜ he doesn't thing it gets more dysfunctional than theirs, but family still holds value in his mind. it's one good thing his father was able to instill in him, even if it has now become a liability. ❛ it means something to me, it meant something to your father. ❜ it's possibly the reason why all three had remained alive — until now. ❛ but let me ask you something. who do you think makes more sense? that your dad would take his nectar from me or from someone in your own syndicate? ❜ he doesn't necessarily wants to the seed of a doubt in the kid's mind, but he wants him to think for himself.
𝐉𝐎𝐒𝐄𝐅𝐈𝐍𝐀 𝐅𝐋𝐎𝐑𝐄𝐒 .
she’s never really been able to help her curiosity. at first she’d balked at what had once been her father’s world, disgusted that people could be capable of such things. now, she finds it all far too interesting for her own good. she knows that it’s not about the blood and guts, it’s about power and control. she swells with a little bit of pride at his agreement, knowing that the boss agreeing with her is nothing to be blase about. then she feels warmth flush her cheeks at his following statement. there’s no mistaking his tone that time, and she knows he’s no shameless flirt. she almost wants to looks away under the intensity of his own gaze, but she’d started it this time. she’s not about to back down now. “you’re right, i’m sure you could think of something you’d like me to do.” she leaves it up to his imagination to take it from there, lips lingering on the head of the bottle for a moment before taking another sip. “i wouldn’t want it any other way, honestly.”
𝐢𝐭 𝐬𝐡𝐨𝐮𝐥𝐝𝐧'𝐭 𝐛𝐞 𝐚 𝐬𝐮𝐫𝐩𝐫𝐢𝐬𝐞, their teasing escalating by the minute, but he still expected her to pull back, stop him before things can get too far. he really needs to stop trying to predict the woman's actions. he can't take his eyes off her, staying on her lips for a little longer than necessary. it's getting increasingly harder not to imagine exactly what those things were and to remind himself where they are. ❛ sounds like an easy task. ❜ desmond sees the movement at the corner of his eye before he can respond to her last comment, one of his men. it's equally the best and worst timing. the nod he sends the man's way is barely there and the attention is back to josefina. ❛ i'm afraid duty calls, ❜ he explains, hints of displeasure spilling into his words. ❛ thanks for the beer. ❜ still, he doesn't walk away immediately.
𝐒𝐀𝐑𝐀 𝐓𝐈𝐓𝐀𝐍 .
No one is being rational right now. There’s a flash of sanity that goes past her brain that tells her not to go over the deep end with him. But it hurts. She also started it, accusing Desmond of potentially killing Zane but she’s been so hazed over with grief, she thinks it could have been her waffle iron that killed Zane at certain moments.
Maybe she’s hurt because she feels thirty years of a sibling-like love burning to the ground. But she wont accept that. She’s still just a hurt woman and he’s got the poison, too. “You don’t get much say of who this is about when you decided to make the funeral of your brother a spectacle.”
She sucks on her teeth and shakes her head. “You know they’re not baseless. But I’m sure it’s real easy to just paint me as a crazy woman.”
𝐡𝐞 𝐝𝐨𝐞𝐬𝐧'𝐭 𝐫𝐢𝐬𝐞 𝐭𝐨 𝐭𝐡𝐞 bait, despite what anyone in there might think, he doesn't regret arriving the way he did. it's the sort of thing that sara wouldn't understand, but zane surely would. ❛ from where i'm standing, it's still about my brother, ❜ he muses instead. ❛ we're all here to remember the great zane titan. ❜ maybe not in the way the woman wanted — she'd made clear she didn't want his presence at all —, but still true. her next words push him to stand a little taller, eyes calculating. ❛ if i wanted my brother dead, he would have died a long time ago. ❜ there had been plenty of chances, but destroying his brothers while they were around to watch it all unfold was a lot more satisfying. ❛ now, there's someone i know with easy access to nectar. an ex-wife who had to deal time and time again with his infidelity. the same ex-wife who is now the head of the titans. someone who could easily hand my brother the foul drugs. means, motive, opportunity — what's that they say about a woman scorned? ❜ accusations are easy.
𝐒𝐀𝐑𝐀 𝐓𝐈𝐓𝐀𝐍 .
One would think, after years, it wouldn’t be so bad. But she’s still just as vexed by Dennis’ company as she was when she first met him. He’s a symbol of her pain and her failures and she can’t have that. But he got part of Zane’s life too. She already tried to fight it. Not on behalf of herself, but on those of her two children, who suffered enough being born from a man who didn’t give them proper love, now they had to share his legacy with a byproduct of his messiness. But Reese liked him so at least she’d try not to get him sent across the Atlantic. Or in jail.
Her jaw tenses when he calls her mom but she chooses not to entertain his words. Instead, she moves one of her plates into the sink. “You’re a grown adult, you don’t need me feeding you.” Which is rich, considering she made breakfast for everyone yesterday morning.
𝐝𝐞𝐧𝐧𝐢𝐬 𝐡𝐚𝐝 𝐠𝐫𝐨𝐰𝐧 𝐮𝐬𝐞𝐝 𝐭𝐨 constant insults and coldness long before he had stepped a foot in tartarus, his skin is thick, words ricocheting and leaving a taunting grin on his face. there had been a bit of disappointment when he first met his father's and her distaste had been so apparent, but he's past that. ❛ i don't know what you mean, i'm a growing boy, ❜ he counters, frowning fleetingly before he's smiling again. ❛ and reese is always going on about what a good mommy you are, figured you'd want to use those motherly skills as much as possible. ❜ his brother might not have said it in so many words, but it's in the way he kisses the ground the woman walks on. ❛ so, what's on the menu? ❜ he asks again.

making her rounds around heavenly is a nightly routine that she’s come to dread. working on the floor is where she makes most of her money but she’s always preferred the performance aspect of dancing. she nearly hits the voice who approaches her quietly from behind but she laughs when she turns to see dennis. “hey gorgeous.” she says kissing him on both cheeks in greeting. her whole body relaxes a little bit with the arrival of a familiar face. “for you? two-fifty and a visit to my apartment with tacos after this.”
𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐠𝐫𝐢𝐧 𝐨𝐧𝐥𝐲 𝐠𝐫𝐨𝐰𝐬 𝐛𝐢𝐠𝐠𝐞𝐫 at the sound of her laughter and the greet he gets. ❛ hey baby. ❜ their friendship has always been a rather tactile one and dennis doesn't bother moving back, knowing amphai won't care about the lack of personal space. ❛ what happened to friends and family discount? ❜ the question is enclosed in playfulness, he’d always give whatever she wanted. ❛ i can definitely do the tacos, i'll even throw a tres leches cake in there. never say i don't treat you the best, ❜ he adds, tone still carrying the same sentiment. he's more interested in their time away from the glamour of heavenly, of course. ❛ shall we? ❜ he asks, offering her his hand.

lux knew better than to mix her alcohol, and she also knew her limits better than this. she hadn’t been this hung over in a long time, and hated that she had to crash here because home was too far away. she also didn’t want her dad to see how trashed she’d gotten, so hiding in a guest room had been the best option. “i’ll just avoid him and alcohol from now on then.” she grumbles, running a hand through her bed head. poor locks, they deserved better grooming than this. the red head snorts, shaking her head, “i’m not boring, give me the bloody mary and let’s go swimming.” she knew she had a spare suit in her car, lux always kept a swim suit on her.
𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐛𝐨𝐲 𝐥𝐚𝐮𝐠𝐡𝐬, 𝐬𝐡𝐨𝐰𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐨𝐧𝐜𝐞 again to be above hangovers. ❛ don't do that, he might actually like it. ❜ it's no secret to him that sometimes (okay, maybe a lot of times) his personality annoys reese, on a smaller scale the same could be said about their cousin's, and what would be the fun in making his older brother's life any easier? he doubts the girl would be able to stay away for long anyway. ❛ yes! and that's exactly why you're my favorite cousin, ❜ he celebrates, the aforementioned cocktail quickly changing hands. of course, he has a second one waiting for him. ❛ you're not racing tonight, are you? ❜ based on how the girl looks right then and there, he's close to 100% sure. ❛ we should make a cousin bonding day out of it. ❜

’ 𝚂𝙾𝙼𝙴 𝙿𝙴𝙾𝙿𝙻𝙴 𝙿𝚁𝙴𝙵𝙴𝚁 𝚃𝙾 𝙱𝙴 bored as you call it. i know that’s a hard concept for you to understand though, ’ mak quips back, draining the cocktail in her glass before sitting up fully. ‘ your family does have a certain way of doing things. ’ with a flare that was unnecessary, and always full of dramatics. it was a wonder how any of the syndicates got anything done if you asked her. a soft chuckle escaped her at his answer, not even the slightest bit of hesitation on his part. ‘ depends. we can take some shots or i’ve got some nectar … and ambrosia. ’ a new dealer had meant some new product, and while mak knew it probably wasn’t a wise idea to do any business with the souls, she’d been increasingly curious about ambrosia and hadn’t let the chance to get some go by. she hadn’t planned on sharing or telling anyone about it, but all things considered, dennis probably needed it more than she did. ‘ don’t be such a baby, i was just joking. i doubt anyone would actually try it today. ’ then again, she’d been wrong before and would hardly be surprised if a brawl didn’t come rolling through the house any moment.
𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐬𝐜𝐨𝐟𝐟 𝐭𝐡𝐚𝐭 𝐜𝐨𝐦𝐞𝐬 𝐰𝐨𝐮𝐥𝐝 have probably been enough to illustrate his feelings about the girl's statement, but he doesn't stop there. ❛ nothing has sound faker in my entire life, and someone tried to convince me that their dad was batman when i was a kid. ❜ she's right, that's a concept he can't understand. ❛ we sure do, ❜ he chuckles. if that was one thing he didn't need to work on getting used was their talent for the dramatics; he fit right in. ❛ makayla volkova, playing with the enemy? when did that happen? ❜ the gasp that's attached to the words is meant to fake astonishment, but the glint in the boy's eyes is a better reflection of his true feelings. maybe his father's wake isn't be the best place to try the new drug — he's sure that would have the man rolling in his grave — but he's not strong enough to fight the temptation. not that he'd ever actually try to fight it. ❛ you better be right because the only thing in my plans right now is getting absolutely wasted with you. ❜ and he will take nothing less.
