Referenced Botticelli's the Birth of Venus for the composition. Should be quite obvious haha

I actually meant to have this ready for last year's Clamp Day but then too much time had passed, and given the inspo it didn't make sense to finish and aim to post it randomly in the middle of the year. Im glad I was able to get it finished and out this year

Dianthus (Nadeshiko): Sakura's mother is incorporated into the white hems of the skirt. The length uneven trails are meant to resemble the petals of a nadeshiko (japanese dianthus). The same goes for the trailing ends of the ribbons around her calves

I want to discuss some of the choices and flowers.

Mainly I wanted to include some of the various important people to Sakura in some form.

I contemplated adding Yue as well next to kero-chan but I feel with his size in proportion to the other characters it would detract from the focus, so unfortunately he did not make it in sad

Cherry blossom (Sakura): as it is her name i wanted to include sakura flowers. I made the trees in the back be blooming sakura trees. Some of the flowers on the torso area of her chest are also singular sakura flowers

Peach (Touya): the petals of a peach flower to symbolize sakura's brother are in the pink hem of the dress/long shirt. The petals are more rounded and have the divot seen in the peach blossoms

Wisteria (Fujitaka): sakura's father's flower is in her choker and on her wrist

Peony (Syaoran) : now while not Sakura's direct family and also not having a flower in his name, I believe it was mentioned somewhere that peonies were Syaoran's favorite flower. Instead of a clamshell that brings in Venus from the ocean, I wanted to have a Peony instead of any other flower to represent the fact that Syaoran is someone who supports Sakura

Tomoyo and kero-chan felt like they would make most sense to fit into the role of the spring nymph and zephyr in the birth of venus

Happy new year 2026! (and early/late lunar new year/valentines day/ramadan/any other cultural holidays happening around now)

I finally finished this 😅 (this was meant to be my gregorian calendar new year art but you know what the lunar new year has yet to come so im safe this year once again ehe)

This features Lyco and digital inverted color scheme Lyco as well. She might be a one time thing or maybe will draw her more times idk

I hope that this year I churn out more art than last year. I had a rough time last year that made it quite difficult to do a lot of things i wanted to do. Hopefully this year is kind to me and everyone else 🙏

Do u have any advice for artists who draw ridiculously slow???

jk haha. here's some tips:

1. identify what's making you draw so slow. can't figure out pose/anatomy? too perfectionist about inking? getting caught up in details? indecisive coloring?

2. timed gesture studies. draw a loose figure w photo reference in 10 minutes. do that a bunch of times. then 5 minutes, 3 minutes, 1 minute. train yourself to omit as much detail as possible while keeping the figure recognizable.

3. the dot/line exercise, sometimes called the "target practice" warmup. draw two dots, then a line connecting them. keep moving the dots farther apart while drawing the line as fast as you can while keeping it STRAIGHT (not wobbly!) and hitting the second dot. the line is ONE stroke. it's harder than it sounds. this should help you get an idea of how fast you can make a controlled stroke

4. look up tutorials on coloring more quickly in whatever art program you're using if you do digital art. chances are there's a tool or setting that can make it easier to fill in shapes. i almost never color by hand, i fill bucket everything

5. free yourself of "clean line art"... 9 times outta 10 people think sketchy lines are more visually appealing anyway. it's faster and they have more life. in my opinion at least

6. use lots of references. spending hours on a complicated pose from memory instead of just looking at photo/3D model reference isn't impressive it's just stupid and unnecessary

7. study with intent. if you struggle with leg anatomy for example, do lots of studies from photos (eyeballing and tracing), then try it freehand/from memory, rinse and repeat 9000 times until it's not something you get stuck on when it comes time to do an illustration/comic page

8. less detail. simplify. you can have ultra detailed art or you can draw fast. pick which is more important to you

9. bullshit it... draw ugly and bad but do it fast. done is always better than perfect

10. thumbnail. it's not just for comics. do a teeny tiny sketch of your drawing beforehand with colors. then use it as reference. helps to finish the actual piece faster when it's planned out

bonus: be impatient and easily bored. i rarely spend more than 2-3 hrs on any one drawing, including comic pages. i got other shit to do!!!! like nap

I got a new tablet though cause my pen on my old one died officially. Rest in pieces my ugee m708 you've served me well these last 8 years. Hopefully the huion 950p lasts just as long

But yeah the timing for that and getting the new tablet was a little too close to when i needed to complete my art exchange piece by hahh

I've been resource gathering for YEARS so now I am going to share my dragons hoard

Floorplanner. Design and furnish a house for you to use for having a consistent background in your comic or anything! Free, you need an account, easy to use, and you can save multiple houses.

Comparing Heights. Input the heights of characters to see what the different is between them. Great for keeping consistency. Free.

Magma. Draw online with friends in real time. Great for practice or hanging out. Free, paid plan available, account preferred.

Smithsonian Open Access. Loads of free images. Free.

SketchDaily. Lots of pose references, massive library, is set on a timer so you can practice quick figure drawing. Free.

SculptGL. A sculpting tool which I am yet to master, but you should be able to make whatever 3d object you like with it. free.

Pexels. Free stock images. And the search engine is actually pretty good at pulling up what you want.

Figurosity. Great pose references, diverse body types, lots of "how to draw" videos directly on the site, the models are 3d and you can rotate the angle, but you can't make custom poses or edit body proportions. Free, account option, paid plans available.

Line of Action. More drawing references, this one also has a focus on expressions, hands/feet, animals, landscapes. Free.

Animal Photo. You pose a 3d skull model and select an animal species, and they give you a bunch of photo references for that animal at that angle. Super handy. Free.

Height Weight Chart. You ever see an OC listed as having a certain weight but then they look Wildly different than the number suggests? Well here's a site to avoid that! It shows real people at different weights and heights to give you a better idea of what these abstract numbers all look like. Free to use.
