and he’s about to shift his attention to possible exercises that aren’t listed on their books, a few he would want hyunjin to try to practice some more, when he listens to what he’s saying. it’s low and like a complain and felix just sighs, running a hand through his eyes , rubbing them “really? that’s what you have to say?” he licks his lips and stares, a hint of disgust in his words “some of us aren’t as privileged as you, some of us need to finish school to actually have a chance to get a decent job to pay the bills.” he sighs deeply, annoyed. “of course i don’t expect you to understand that.”
there was something about felix that just seemed to draw hyunjin’s attention to him. it wasn’t because of the fact that the other male was blind, he didn’t care about that, it was mostly because felix was different than others when it came to actually not fearing him. hyunjin had this reputation that made other students actually want to run away from him because of how he treated them. why did he do this? well, he didn’t exactly know why either.
maybe because he knew he could get away with it, that even if he did cause some sort of trouble then his father would take care of everything. though, maybe it was due to the fact that he hated his father and wanted to just act out against the man because he knew that it would piss his father off if hyunjin screwed up bad enough to make him actually have to stop what he was doing in order to fix whatever mess it was that hyunjin made. it was sort of his way of getting back at his father for all of the shit he put him through over the years.
though there's definitely the part where hyunjin has to admit that felix is actually rather cute, even when he looks annoyed. just this thought alone makes him smirk slightly as he continues to look at the other male, a few thoughts running through his mind as he does so.
he can’t help but laugh at what felix says to him, shaking his head and letting out a soft sigh. “that’s cute. really. i don’t think anyone has ever compared me to a kid before.” even his tone shows that he’s clearly amused by what the other male says, that he’s actually enjoying this whole thing. he thinks about how interesting felix is, how the other just speaks to him freely like this without a care in the world, meanwhile other students wouldn’t even dare speak to him unless he spoke to them. “wait, actually i think my dad says this to me sometimes but you’re definitely the first besides him.” still amusement is laced in his tone as he says this.
hyunjin smirks once more as he finally opens his book to the page he had been instructed to turn to, glancing up at felix for a moment and narrowing his eyes at what the other says. he sits there for a moment, processing the words in his mind before scoffing. “you don’t know a thing about me. just because my family has money doesn’t mean shit.” he runs his fingers through his hair and lets out a long heavy sigh. so that’s what people thought? that he didn’t care about his grades because he was more ‘privileged’ than them. the thought alone makes him want to laugh.
“let’s just get this done and over with.” he mutters this under his breath as he finally tares his gaze away from felix to his textbook. hyunjin didn’t even see the point in trying to explain himself to the other. whether he cared about his grades or not, in the end it wouldn’t change the fact that his future was already decided for him by his father. that he would be taking over the company even if he failed his tests and flunked out of school. it had all been decided for him since the day he was born and there was nothing he could do to change that. “what are we doing first?” he asks this but still doesn’t look at the other. might as well just get this done and over with right?
making sure not to trip over her dress (because there were too many incidences of that happening tonight), she makes her way to the boy with a big smile on her face. “jaeinnie~!” she calls out to him with a big smile. “you enjoying the night so far?” she asks, kind of already expecting what his answer might be. regardless of whateever his response would be, her tone is still warm and she gives a big smile. “are you excited for anything else tonight? maybe wishing in the universe pool or the fireworks?” her eyes light up as she mentions the last event, but she doesn’t notice how enthusiastic she is about that.
attending the ball hadn’t really been something that jaein had really planned on doing. he wasn’t the most fun person out there, knowing this all too well, however he knew that it couldn’t really be avoided in the end. so, after finding a last minute suit for the event, jaein had found his way towards the ball despite the feeling of slight worry he was feeling on his way here.
he had mostly been lingering around, making sure to not get in anyone’s way because that was the last thing he wanted to do. the thing about jaein was that he usually just kept to himself, it was easier that way, though the fact that the seniors would all be having their dance made him sort of nervous in a way. he had never really danced before, never really having a reason to do such things because he mostly avoided scenes where he had to interact with lots of people or even do any sort of dancing really. mostly he would just spend time researching or studying his medical books.
jaein looks over when he hears his name being called, blinking a few times and politely bowing his head a bit when he notices angie. “oh... hi, angie.” he listens for a moment before nodding slowly. “for the most part. i’m not used to events like this so i’m just standing here...” he slightly raises a brow at her next question, his eyebrows furrow a bit as he thinks for a moment. “i don’t think i’ve ever really seen fireworks before.” he pauses. would he even be able to handle watching fireworks with the way his mental state was? he doesn’t realize that he’s been staring at her for a few moments until he nearly drops his cup and quickly tightens his grip around it. “how about you? you seem pretty excited when speaking about the fireworks.. is there something special about them that makes you like them so much?” he asks this, actually curious about her answer.
“I hope you got your notes and books. I’m not here to talk to the walls. Despite this tutoring being a free service provided by the school, students don’t have to be your slaves. If you’re not able to keep up with the classes or find my method of teaching not suitable to your knowledge, you let me know and I’ll excuse myself with the secretary and they can sign someone else up for you.” His voice was now calmer, as he sits down in front of Hyunjin. Felix feels like he needs to explain him all the rules before they start and even though he can’t see the man’s expression, he likes to speak directly to them, as if he could picture their expression as they pay attention to him.
Once he finishes, he returns to the desk separating their chairs, opening the Japanese book in front of him. “Tell me where you struggle and I’ll have exercises ready for you. We have three weeks until the next evaluation.”
The fact that he was even in this position right now made him hate his father even more than he already did, though once he had confirmed exactly who his tutor was he had actually decided that he would at least attempt to get through all of this. Who knows? This may all end up turning out to work out in his favor in the end. He didn’t have anything personal against Felix, hell he hardly knew the other male, though he did like to have fun.
He watches as Felix gets up, even allowing his gaze to follow the other as he retrieves his books and returns, his gaze not once leaving the male. Even when the other speaks, Hyunjin can’t help but find it all amusing really, though at the same time something makes him wonder why Felix would even agree to tutoring someone. He knew that the other was actually one of the students within the school who actually had some of the higher grades, that’s just how much he had actually investigated on Felix.
Hyunjin chuckles softly, nodding just slightly as he leans over and reaches into his own bag to pull out his own books before tossing them gently onto the desk. He leans forward, his attention back on Felix as he speaks. “You know, your words are a little harsh, though luckily I’m not the type to take something like that to heart.” His tone is teasing as he says this, taking a moment to open his own book and scrunching his nose up at the words that are written on the pages. “Honestly, I guess I need help with all of it.” Hyunjin isn’t afraid to admit that he’s lacking in certain studies, especially when it’s only him and Felix present. “You’re the one tutoring here so I’ll go with whatever you want to do since I basically know none of this.” He honestly isn’t really trying to be difficult, though he was being honest with the other. He really didn’t know hardly anything to do with half of the stuff he was doing horribly in.
He leans back again in his chair, crossing his arms again and letting out a soft sigh at the thought, squinting his eyes as he continues to look at the book in front of him. “Why do we even have to come to school? It’s not like we’re going to use over half of what they teach once we graduate anyway.” Hyunjin says this in a low tone, mostly to himself rather than to Felix.

He rubs his eyes, there’s some pressure behind his right one and he sighs, knowing very well if he doesn’t relax things might escalate to a migraine and that’s definitely something Felix doesn’t need today. He just wants…to finish the day in a positive, bright note, is that too much to ask.
He doesn’t notice, and it’s his mistake for not truly trusting his other senses, but there’s someone there, finally and it’s only when the door closes behind them, he notices a blurred figure approaching him, but not invading his personal space.
Felix is annoyed.
“You’re late.” His voice comes lower and stronger than is expected, but he doesn’t apologize.
If it hadn’t been for his father, Hyunjin wouldn’t even be accepting help with tutoring. It wasn’t that his grades were horrible, however he knew that they weren’t exactly the best either. Did he really care about his grades? Not really but if it got his father to leave him alone he’d agree to it without giving it a second thought. Besides, who said that he actually had to pay attention to whatever it was his tutor was helping him with? He figured that he could take this time to get in a much needed nap.
Hyunjin knew that he was late for the tutoring session, he was intentionally stalling so that he didn’t have to deal with the boring time he would end up spending doing all of this when he could be off having some actual fun. He had actually left the school grounds for a bit to find an excuse to be late, now on his way back as he speeds down the street towards the school on his motorcycle. Once he’s arrived, again, he parks the motorcycle and hops off of it, taking the helmet off and hangs it on the handle before he makes his way towards the front doors of the school.
From the information he had managed to gather about the other, he knew of the fact that Felix was apparently blind and he figured he knew exactly who it was since ( from his knowledge ) there was only one student in their school who fit this description. If this happened to be the same Felix that he knew of then he figured that this definitely would be fun in the end, though for now he decided to just wait and see.
He lets out a heavy sigh when he finally reaches the room, slowly opening the door and peaking inside before smirking as his gaze lands on the male who is sitting there waiting for him. So he was right after all. Hyunjin waits for a moment before finally stepping into the room and closing the door behind him, approaching Felix while keeping his eyes locked on the other.
It’s only when the male speaks that Hyunjin scoffs, waking his way over to the empty chair and sitting down. He gives a long sigh in response, scratching the back of his head in annoyance over the fact that the male hadn’t left. “I know I’m late. I didn’t figure you would actually sit here and wait for me.” His tone shows that he’s clearly amused by this whole thing. “Lets just get this over with. I have some stuff I need to do after.”
“i’m so sorry, hoonie… you don’t deserve that—i hope you know that you’ve done nothing to warrant that sort of treatment.” he reels himself in after he pulls himself together, taking a deep breath in an attempt to calm himself down. jihoon needs him—he can’t cry in front of the other, not right now. “thank you… for trusting me enough to tell me.” gently, he pats jihoon’s head, trying to muster a smile. “you did so well, you were so brave for reaching out to me. i’m so proud of you, you did the right thing, alright?”
everything is starting to make sense—why jihoon suddenly disappeared, why the other seem to be just a little bit different ever since. yes, people grow and change—but when you’ve been hurt by those who are meant to keep you safe, sometimes that sticks with you for a long time. youngha has no doubt this applies to jihoon as well. how long has jihoon been suffering all alone, with no one to help him? the thought merely brought youngha a new found motivation—youngha will be here now, he’ll do everything within his power to aid jihoon, to hopefully show the other the road to recovery. the process will be slow, they might make a few wrong turns, but he’s determined to take jihoon out of that situation.
“hoonie… can you look at me?” he asks with a gentle voice. “i need to check for injuries, if that’s okay? i don’t want you to keep hurting, if you don’t want to go to the hospital… at least let me take a look?” he’s pleading a little, even if it sounds pathetic. “i have something lying around here, leftovers from when i injured myself playing soccer. i can help you—so, please let me help you.”
{ tw: mental abuse, physical abuse, mentions of alcoholism and drug use }
the feeling of having youngha’s hand on his back, it’s soothing really despite the pain he should be in with the new bruises he had received earlier from his father. he knew it was a bad idea in the first place to come find youngha, knowing that if his father were to find out then he really would have it worse when he returned, however he couldn’t help himself. he had just started walking and ended up at his front door without even really thinking about what would happen. he also knew it was a bad idea because if youngha were to ever go to the police over the matter then he really would end up losing his best friend again. his father had always been quick to avoid the police, for whatever reason it was that he feared the law.
he couldn’t have that happen again, not when he he had just gotten youngha back after all these years. he had missed him, missed the times that they had spent together, well up until his father took him away. the feeling of loneliness had been unbearable for hoon over the years, always wishing he still had the other around, wishing that he had someone to just talk to and help him get away from the harsh reality that awaited him at home. youngha had been his safe place back then and now that they had found one another he was experiencing that feeling all over again.
the warmth that youngha gave him, the smiles, the laughter, the comfort, all of which he lacked from his own father. it was youngha who gave him all of that which he needed in his life. it was as if, when he was with him, he felt complete. it was something that hoon wished he could always have, that he could just not have to deal with the constant fear he had on a daily basis when he was around his father.
he had tried his best over the years to understand his father, to understand why the man would constantly beat him and constantly tell him that he was worthless or even a mistake, figuring it was just the alcohol and drugs that he was on. hoon always hoped that deep down his father actually loved him and cared for him, however when he saw how youngha treated him he began to realize that maybe his father didn’t feel any of that towards him. that the safe feeling he got when he was with youngha was something he never has and probably never will feel when he was at home.
it was because of his father that hoon had grown up to be as jumpy as he was when others would so much as just bump into him. there were even times when he would break down in public, have panic attacks if someone only were to just brush up against him. this reason alone was why he couldn’t even take public transportation, and he couldn’t exactly use the taxi’s because that meant using money that he needed for the bills that had to be paid. so, in the end hoon walked everywhere he went, even most of his clothes and shoes had holes in them. he couldn’t even remember the last time he had actually bought new clothing. it wasn’t because he didn’t want to but rather because he knew that he couldn’t afford it all. his father didn’t work, it was hoon that did that while his father went out for hours at a time getting drunk or getting his usual high that he got off of whatever he could get his hands on ( all of which came from the money that hoon earned from his job ).
he had tried to talk his father out of doing these things, tried telling him to get help, however he learned very quickly that it was best to keep his mouth shut after his father had attacked him one night because of it.
when he feels a pair of arms wrapping around him, hoon can’t help but jump a little at the suddenness of it all, his body tensing and his breathing picking up as he trembles, however he remembers that it’s youngha who is there with him. he knows that the other won’t do anything to harm him and it’s this thought that makes him finally calm down, makes him relax against the other. the soothing words that youngha says brings tears to hoon’s eyes and he begins silently sobbing into his hands despite telling himself that he shouldn’t cry, not in front of youngha at least. he didn’t want to worry the other anymore than he probably already has, didn’t want to be a burden to him.
hoon can’t even bring himself to speak, only able to nod in response to what youngha says. he had never heard anyone, including his father, say that he had done well or even that they were proud of him and it was this reason that he finally broke. the last bit of strength he had been trying to keep completely gone now as he leans into youngha’s arms even more, wanting to feel the warmth of the other and feel the safeness that came with being held. he wondered if this was what it was like to just feel safe and secure, to feel as if he actually belonged in a world that had only been harsh to him for as long as he could remember.
what would happen if he just told youngha everything? what if he just ran away from home? no, he couldn’t do either of those things and he knew it. his father would find him, would make sure that when he did find hoon that he would teach him a lesson ten times worse than when hoon just was minding his own business at home. besides he couldn’t risk even youngha getting in the middle of his problems because if something were to end up happening to the other because of him then he would never forgive himself. with this in mind he removes his hands from his face, attempting to calm himself by taking in deep breaths and exhaling slowly.
it’s only when he hears youngha speak once again that he finally looks at the other slowly, unable to really look him in the eye as he does. he opens his mouth to speak, to say that he’s ‘fine’ but instead his mouth moves quicker than his brain does. “okay....” it’s all he can manage to say without breaking down again, even his voice sounds weak and the single word he does manage to say makes his voice crack. he hated showing this side of himself to youngha, hated not being able to smile like he once had around the other but it’s as if the moment he saw his face when he had first arrived, there was nothing he could do to stop it all.
hoon manages after a moment to muster up enough energy to finally actually look at youngha, though he doesn’t have the energy to actually try and force a smile or even try to lie and say that he’s fine. “i-i’m sorry...for being a burden hyung...sorry for” he clears his throat in attempt to get rid of the lump that he feels in his throat before continuing. “showing this side of myself to you.” he’s speaking almost in a whisper as he says all of this.
she goes to his side, figuring he’s possibly disassociating to handle the situation or just went into shock from being overwhelmed. “it’s okay, i’m here,” she tells him. haeun doesn’t have much experience with anxiety attacks (she’s only experienced her first one this year, after all) but all that she can think of is to keep him calm and let him know that he was safe now. the first thing she needed to accomplish was getting his heart rate to slow down.
“it’s okay you don’t have to be here anymore. can you do be a favour? can you take deep, slow breaths?” if she keeps talking he’s bound to refocus and ground himself. although she has to be mindful to not be overwhelming. “you may not know me but my name is kang haeun. i’m a healing major. i’m going to help you, okay? so first we have to do deep slow breaths. follow me as i do it.”
he hated this, hated how something such as being locked in a small space affected him as much as it did. back when him and his brother had gone to the haunted house on halloween, he did everything he could to keep his mind off of the fact that he was in such a tight space. if his brother hadn’t been there with him at the time he most likely would have ended up in the situation that he was currently in. he just wished that he didn’t have to deal with this, that he didn’t let such things get to him, but he couldn’t help it especially with the trauma he had suffered when he was younger.
it’s the images that had flashed through his head in this moment that had confused him about what really happened back then. had things really happened like he ‘remembered’ or was what his father and brother had tried telling him all these years the truth? that nothing that happened back then was really his fault. if that were true then why would he sit here and blame himself after all this time?
he knew he was at fault for what happened to his mother, knew that if it hadn’t been for him then that day she would have still lived somehow. there was no doubt in his mind that he hadn’t been the cause behind all of it and there was no way that he would ever think anything different unless he were to somehow fully gain his memories of that day back. yes, he just saw what he might have seen as a child but he still wasn’t fully convinced, telling himself that he would have to investigate this whole matter the first chance that he got.
it’s the voice of a female that brings him out of these thoughts, the voice sounding quite soothing in a way as he watches the figure approach him, looking at her when she tries to calm him down. her voice was just too soothing to not actually do as she’s asking of him. jaein only gives a small nod in response before he finally inhales a deep breath through his nose and exhales out through his mouth. his body is still trembling, his thoughts all still in a jumbled up mess, but he still manages to do exactly what the stranger is asking of him. ‘haeun’. he couldn’t remember if he had ever even heard of that name before, though how could he really even attempt to when he not only had just been locked inside of a tight space, but also due to the fact that his memory wasn’t exactly the most reliable when it came to such things.
he gives another nod as she speaks, making eye contact with her once his eyes finally adjust to the sudden light. “thank...you...” his tone is trembling as he says this. he’s not fully calmed down from what just happened but he knows that he’ll manage eventually. for now he just focuses on breathing along with the female. “i’m...lee jaein...” he says this in between the breathing exercise, breathing slowly just like haeun had instructed him to do. he had never really been in a situation such as being locked in a small space, well none that he could remember that is, though he’s glad that at least someone like her was actually helping him even when she didn’t have to. once he’s managed to calm down a bit more he nervously bites his bottom lip.
When she heard the elevator door ding and open, her attention was drawn to it immediately, kind of hoping that it was Garam but out stepped a younger-looking man instead. “Um, excuse me?” Areum called out to him, trotting in his direction the best she could with her heels. Of course, he was still taller than her even with the type of shoes she wore, and she briefly wondered why she had to get all the short genes in her family.
She shifted the basket and flowers in her grasp again, nodding. “Can you help me? I’m looking for Han Garam, but it seems like he’s not listed on the directory…”
alex had his moments where he didn’t mind being the son of a lawyer, though there were often times where he hated it. today was the latter. his father called him into the office to force him into sitting through a meeting over a new case they had taken on and the whole time he felt like he wanted to just pull his hair out just hearing about it all. it was his father who wanted him to be a lawyer, wanted him to follow in the mans footsteps career wise, though alex didn’t want that. he would rather do something such as develop video games, which was why when his father had sent him overseas to study he had taken on not only law as a major but game developing as a minor ( behind his fathers back of course ).
of course he had to take law seriously while he was in university, if he hadn’t then his father would have found out and would have most likely flown out the first chance he got just to go nag at alex in person. his mother on the other hand didn’t really care what alex did, she supported him in whatever he wanted to do with his life, though seeing as his father was the more strict parent he had no other choice but to follow along with what his father wanted.
as he steps into the elevator he lets out a long and heavy sigh, pressing the button to the lobby before he leans against the wall of the elevator. he closes his eyes as he pinches the bridge of his nose, eyebrows furrowed together. he had to find a way out of all this, find a way to convince his father that he wasn’t cut out to be a lawyer, though the question was: how? there was no way the man would agree to letting alex do something that he wanted to do.
the elevator dings as it comes to a halt and the doors begin to open, alex stepping out and running his fingers through his hair out of frustration. he just wants to go home, to get the hell out of this place before his father realizes that he had snuck out while they all took a break. he couldn’t take it anymore today, however when he sees a female approach all of those thoughts are pushed to the back of his mind. he listens closely when she speaks, though he can’t help but think that she was quite beautiful really.
he squints slightly when she mentions a name, thinking for a moment before he finally speaks. “han garam? are you his girlfriend? wife?” he pauses for a moment before speaking once again, smirking just slightly. “or maybe his lover?” his tone this time is more teasing rather than serious, though he can’t help himself. after spending two hours stuck in a room with a bunch of men he needs some sort of fun. well that and he’s actually curious if the female in front of him is actually single...for reasons.
yeah, he could easily just point her in the right direction and be on his way but what would be the fun in that? maybe, if he was lucky enough he’d be able to get her number, though with how she was dressed he figured it would be easier said than done. he would most likely have to charm her a bit before she would even agree to such a thing. he glances at the items in her arms, thinking of whether or not he should offer to help. would that be enough to make her trust him enough? “do you need help with that?” he asks this as he motions towards the items that she’s holding.
Malia really thought that his laughter would be the worst reaction she could ever receive from someone after what went down just moments prior. Laughter was something reserved for fun moments and light hearted jokes. The predicament the pair had found themselves in was anything but!! For starters, someone could have SERIOUSLY been hurt. And again— she was taking the blame for something that she had nothing to do with.
“You can’t possibly be serious right now.” The girl responded, genuinely astonished by what she was hearing. She’d said quite awful things about the other only for him to consider it sweet…? Was she missing something here? Not only that, but there seemed to be word of Malia going around the school halls. She’d dealt with worse— her first kissed aired out on an anonymous Buzzard account, getting others besides herself into trouble. But what Ethan seemed to had heard had little effect of Malia. In fact, she saw nothing wrong with what he was saying at all.
“And why would you feel sorry for me? I wouldn’t consider being a well behaved person to be something sad. Getting our house points taken away is punishment for all other innocent students, not just ourselves. It’s wrong and you are too!” She huffed, crossing her arms in protest. “My life is not and never has been boring, thank you very much!”
ethan’s look of amusement never once leaves his face as he listens to what malia says, giving a small shrug. “what? i’m being very serious right now, malia. your words really are sweet, like music to my ears.” he’s speaking the truth. if people didn’t think horribly of him, even say horrible things about him to his face, then he honestly would be worried that he wasn’t doing things properly. it would be pretty frightening if others actually started speaking kindly of him because he purposely did half the shit he did just to get the negative comments that he would get.
usually when ethan would pull pranks on other students, very few times would someone get seriously injured, though when they would he would quickly find elodie that way she could help get him out of the mess he had created. lately though he had managed to keep himself from causing any sort of trouble that really would need to get his sister involved because, honestly, he didn’t want to go through any ear pulling or nagging that he would get. yes, he was the older twin but he really did enjoy playing little pranks just for fun. it’s how he had always been ever since the two of them were younger.
“listen, you need to loosen up a bit. this right here is what i’m talking about.” he motions towards her and how she’s acting. “so what? some house points were taken, but it’s not like they can’t be earned back and besides no one was hurt physically. have you ever just tried doing something besides being a goody two-shoes and lived a little? go out and have some real fun?” he asks this with his eyebrow raised.
“damn,” she muttered, pausing to let her eyes adjust to the dark. then she continued down the corridor.
there was only one way from here - up. she steadies herself with a hand against the wall and begins to climb the stairs. there is one classroom up here, where freshman tackle divination - it’s a frequented enough class, and although she’s sure they’ve already evacuated it, she has to be sure.
she reaches the top of the stairs, and stares into the dark cavern of a classroom. the wind is screeching here, so loud it’s as if the building has been surrounded by banshees.
“is anyone still here?” she asks, tentatively - she doesn’t frighten easy, but it is absolutely horrifying here in the tower.
bella was usually someone who was fearless, she was someone who never let things get to her because she had grown up around her grandmother who basically made her ( in more ways than just one ) grow up not fearing anything. according to the elderly woman, fear was a sign of weakness and that was something that bella had instilled into her since she first learned how to speak or even walk.
though, despite what her grandmother tried to raise her as, there was one thing that had always frightened bella. darkness. it was the reason why she even made sure she got a single room when she first started attending bokseong because of the fact that she had to sleep with the lights on at all times. if her room were dark she wouldn’t be able to sleep at all, she’d be up all night too busy worrying about if something would come out of the darkness and get her.
so of course when the power decided to kick off around the entire school, bella had panicked. she tried her best to find her way to someplace safe, someplace where she would hopefully find someone to stick with until this whole thing was over with, however in the end the fear was too much for her to handle and instead of finding another student or even a professor she ended up hiding in one of the classrooms.
she was currently huddled in a corner of the room, not even knowing really which classroom she was in because she couldn’t see shit. the usually fearless freshman had even managed to knock over a few things in the process of entering the room in her panicked state. she’s sitting here, knees pulled to her chest and her face buried into her knees as she sits there hoping that the lights will come back on soon. if not she may just end up being grabbed by whatever there was in the darkness ( even though there really wasn’t anything ).
its only when she hears a voice that she finally sits up straight and glances around the dark room, listening closely to where the voice is coming from as she stands from where she had been seated this whole time. “w-who’s there?” her voice comes out shaky as she speaks, the fear in her tone obvious but she doesn’t care who it is really. she only cares that the person is there to help her, to save her from the one thing she feared the most.
she begins to walk slowly as she holds her arms out to help guide her so that she doesn’t end up running into a desk or something else that could end up seriously hurting her if she were to trip and fall. “a-are you here t-to help me?” she asks this as she continues on slowly, one step at a time. though when her hand comes into contact with something, or rather someone, bella lets out a scream and jumps back, which in return ends up with her stumbling over a chair and falling flat on her ass. “ow!”
when he had heard that the ball would have many different things to do, there was one that kei hadn’t really been too sure about. the mistletoe. the fact that something like that even existed, especially the kind that would follow you around and even could hex someone if they didn’t go through with kissing, the whole thing just really made him want to skip out on the ball altogether. though in the end he had decided he would attend the little event, not ever really being someone who would turn down the idea of having a little make out session with anyone.
kei had managed to avoid the mistletoe for most of the night, especially when he was around anyone he had previously slept with or just didn’t want to be stuck with, though somehow he had managed to end up under the exact thing he had been sort of avoiding. he wasn’t really complaining right now though because he had to admit, jitae was handsome so actually this whole situation wasn’t too bad for him.
he looks up at the mistletoe that’s now above both of them and lets out a small sigh before he averts his gaze to the male in front of him, a slight smirk appearing on his face as he does. “well, i guess this means we have to kiss. that is unless you want to risk the chance of being hexed.” his tone sounds almost dangerous as he says this, glancing the other up and down before he steps closer to the other until he’s only a couple inches apart.
it was a very daring move, he knows this all too well, however he isn’t about to sit here and get hexed over something as simple as a kiss. no, he’s not really scared of being hexed, though he just doesn’t feel like dealing with what could possibly happen if he does end up with a hex on him over all of this. so, without giving it a second though, he snakes his arm around jitae’s waist and pulls the other close to him until their bodies are finally touching. “are you ready?” his deep voice sounds almost seductive as he speaks, mostly toying with the other male to add a little bit of fun to this whole situation.
she sweeps her hair over her shoulder with a slightly dramatized flourish. she doesn’t often go fishing for compliments - they don’t mean much to her - but he had been very keen on respecting her earlier. a part of her wonders just how far he’d go to remain respectful to her, and it takes everything for her not to laugh at the thought.
“i have never heard of my nephew gaming before,” she says honestly. “what kind of gaming does he enjoy? tell me now, quickly. i am interested. greatly. and elaborate on your interest. you wish to befriend him?”
jaein had only met sage in a few games so it wasn’t really surprising that he didn’t know much about him, not really surprising that all he really knew was his name. the other had seemed like a decent person online, someone that jaein felt was pretty easy to get along with, fun even. though he couldn’t recall any moments where he had heard sage speak about having an aunt, especially one that attended the same school as them.
“it’s really nice to meet you.” he says this as he looks at her closely, thinking for a moment about the question she had just asked. it was true, she really did look like she could definitely pass as sage’s sister rather than his aunt. he gives a small nod in response. “actually, if you had said you were his sister, rather than his aunt, i would have believed it.”
it was strange just for even jaein to be conversing with someone, especially about another person, usually he wouldn’t even bother. he knew that he wasn’t the most interesting person out there, knew that others didn’t really care much for speaking with him due to the fact that he never showed even the slightest smile or even laughed. when speaking to him he knew that others thought it was most likely like speaking to a rock, it was the reason why he usually just kept to himself to avoid boring others. though he had, had a small interest in getting to know sage because he had managed to get along with the other.
his gaze shifts to the table for a moment as he thinks of how to answer what she’s asked. had he been wrong about who he had played those games with? was there more than one person out there with the name ‘sage’? he finally returns his gaze to forsythia before he speaks once again. “it was a game called among us?” he pauses for a moment. “i just...got along well with him is all. though i haven’t really played much since then so i was just wondering how he was doing.” another pause as that same worry returns. “though maybe....we’re talking about two different people if your nephew isn’t someone who plays games.”
things such as the yule ball weren’t exactly events that kei usually would find himself attending due to the fact that he wasn’t too big on formal wear, preferring scenes such as bars or clubs because of course he could wear more relaxing clothing and also had an unlimited supply of alcohol, though he figured he would ‘crash’ the ball and mingle a bit with a few of the other students he had yet to meet.
what he should have expected, but hadn’t really thought much about, is that he would end up seeing quite a few people he had already slept with. one of those people being fuchsia and he only realizes this fact when he spots her. kei was horrible, he knew that, though he didn’t care and he made this pretty clear as he makes his way over towards the female, slight smirk on his face as he does so. it was funny to him really, how he could easily charm someone enough to just get them in bed even if it was just one night ( which was how he preferred things ).
he stops once he’s a few feet away from the female, drink in his hand as he tilts his head just slightly. “well look who decided to show up. you look nice there, fuchsia.” his tone is dangerous, almost sounding even as if he’s toying with her. making things even more interesting, he looks her over, from head to toe, as he licks his lips before he returns his gaze to make eye contact with her. he steps forward, close enough to whisper in her ear. “though let me just say, you look a lot better without clothes on.” the smirk on his face grows as he says this. yes, he was definitely toying with her at this point.
“i regret being your sister everyday.” she quips back, even if that is so very far from the truth.
and elodie levels him right back with a stare, arms crossed over her chest and says, “i think it does matter if he is your boyfriend or not, because we tell each other these kind of things.” even if he’s turning around and calling her out in the exact same breath. still, she doesn’t let herself flinch or even show a hint of emotion.
“because it’s fun. it’s a way to pass the time and because i know you will love to hear this– he’s great in bed.” he has just made snide comments about elodie nosing into his private life, so she could return the favor no problem. “besides you should relax. i’m just trying to make friends with him.” if that was the right word.
“okay!” now this actually gets a reaction out of her. she has no problem with being slut shamed, sure. she can admit she’s not the most… chaste person around, but from her own brother? “screw you. i was a very tasteful playboy bunny. they’re not slutty. they’re iconic. and what does it matter to you? it’s not like you like her! at least i hope you don’t when you’re toting around that little toy of yours.” she scoffs. “taking a page out of my book? try to be a little original.”
“come on, elodie. you and i both know damn well that’s a lie.” he rolls his eyes as he says this, letting out a small sigh as he looks at her, especially with what she says next. of course he’s been wanting to tell elodie about insu, though he had been so busy with his own problems that it just never happened.
“fine, you really want to know? yeah, he’s my boyfriend. for once in our lives sis i’ve actually found someone, besides you, that doesn’t sit there and judge me because of what our parents did. the big fuck up that got them killed in the end.” he was being harsh with his own words but it was the truth. the reality that he tried to ignore, that he did his best to avoid because despite what their parents did when they were still alive he wanted to side with them no matter what happened. though he would be lying if he said that he didn’t resent them a little for even slipping up, accident or not, because it only made both his and elodie’s life’s hell growing up.
he scoffs at his sisters words, shaking his head. “so basically you’re just toying with the poor guy?” he laughs a bit as he thinks for a moment before finally speaking once more, a playful smirk making its way to his face as he leans back on his bed, eyebrow raised slightly. “so does this also mean you’re screwing around? if you are i feel bad for dom, really. poor guy doesn’t deserve that, elodie.” he means this as a joke, not really caring about someone he didn’t even know hardly anything about. “oh? then maybe i should be friends with dom then?” hell no, that wouldn’t happen.
he realizes that he’s probably hit a nerve and can’t help but shrug. “if you ask me, that’s probably considered being slutty. have you tried covering up a bit more? you should have went as a nun.” ethan raises his brow once again. “i don’t have anything against her. no, i don’t like her but really i don’t hate her either. what’s the deal with that anyway? she trying to steal your boy toy or something?” he scoffs. “besides, insu is not a ‘toy’. sorry that i’m actually trying to make a change with my life rather than sleeping around and toying with someone i’m supposed to be in a relationship with.” he’s not going to budge, not going to let her get any sort of reaction out of him. yes, he does love his sister more than anything, or anyone, in the world but there were times when they would get like how they were now and he knew he had to act as if it didn’t bother him.
immediately, there are a few red flags raised. gently, youngha rests his palm against jihoon’s back and lets the other inside, closing the door slowly so as to not startle the younger. he doesn’t try to hide his concern, hands on both of jihoon’s shoulders, eyebrows knitted as he tries to find out what exactly is wrong. “hoonie… are you alright?” he asks, voice laced with worry, a frown etched on his face. “you can tell me if something is wrong, okay? and if there’s anything i can do about it, i will.” he means it wholeheartedly, youngha would readily give jihoon the world.
maybe there’s another reason for that—something more than just because jihoon is his precious friend.
“do you want to—can you sit down?” softly, he wraps his hand around jihoon’s and pulls the other closer towards the couch, but he doesn’t make jihoon sit. he allows jihoon to move on his own volition.

over the years, hoon had gone through so much that even he was surprised by how he was able to still have even the smile he often gave to others. the mental and physical abuse his father had put him through, whether he did anything wrong or not, was enough to most likely break someone to the point of them wanting to just give up everything. for hoon though he didn’t. he kept going on, believing that someday it would all end, that his father would sober up and become a better person. he hadn’t.
it was when he met youngha again that he finally had some light in his life once again, his childhood friend who he had spent so much time with in the past. he had been so happy back then, had always looked forward to hanging out with youngha and just getting away from his father even if it was for only a couple hours. back then he was able to leave the house, using school as an excuse, to just get a fresh of breath air compared to the smell of alcohol and drugs that filled the home that him and his father had lived in.
though when his father had found out about how hoon had been hanging out with youngha, the man was quick to pack their stuff up and leave. they moved and hoon hadn’t been able to even warn youngha about it, he was devastated but it didn’t last long because soon after he was more worried about when he would get his next beating from his father, thinking about how to deal with the pain afterwards.
slowly he had begun to just accept the beatings, even trying to get used to them and not even allow himself to be surprised by such things because he knew that when his father was drunk that was it. there was never any way for him to run away, to go and hide before this all happened. he had tried once, hoon had tried to hide from his father but in the end he realized that was a wrong move on his part because it just made things ten times worse.
tonight was no different than any other time though, his father had come home drunk and sadly hoon was prepared for it. he knew as soon as the man had walked through that door he would be getting hit, knew that the man wouldn’t stop until he was either exhausted or finished taking whatever frustrations he had out on hoon. a fist to the jaw, being kicked in the ribs repeatedly. he just laid there and took it all but as soon as his father turned in for the night hoon fought through the pain and stood up, he did his best to clean himself up enough to not worry youngha, then once he did a decent job of that he left the house quietly.
that was the great thing about having youngha in his life once again. he now had somewhere to go, someone to help him feel safe and secure for the first time in a long time. it was definitely better than sitting in his room crying over it, better than being alone, so here he was ringing his friends doorbell. it hadn’t been until he had actually arrived that he realized that it was actually late, knowing that youngha had to be tired from work, though as he was about to quickly leave to avoid disturbing him the door opens and he looks at youngha.
he wants to tell youngha everything, wants to just be held by him and comforted. though they were friends and friends didn’t do that right? the thought made his heart ache, the fact that he had cared deeply for youngha as more than just a ‘friend’ but he kept this fact to himself. he didn’t want to risk losing the other again. no, he couldn’t lose him again, not when he had recently found him. maybe he was being selfish for once but he didn’t care. as long as he had youngha next to him he didn’t mind just keeping his feelings towards him a secret.
he tries to smile at youngha, tries to tell him even the simplest of ‘hey’ but his mouth won’t open, his smile even coming out weak and unbelievable. he can’t even bring himself to speak and tell him that he’s fine and in the end he just gives a small nod when asked if he’s alright. he wants to tell youngha the truth but he’s afraid to, especially since the other is already looking at him the way that he is. “i...i’m sorry, i know it’s late and i shouldn’t have come...i just didn’t know where else to go.” his voice sounds weak, almost speaking in a whisper as he glances down at his feet, unable to really make eye contact with youngha.
only when he’s brought inside is when he finally feels as if he can relax, feeling safe like he usually did when he started coming over to youngha’s place. he lets out a soft yet shaky sigh, gently squeezing youngha’s hand for comfort as he follows him over to the couch. hoon gives another small nod before he slowly sits down, not wanting to let go of his hand but forcing himself to as he props his elbows on his legs and buries his face into the palms of his hands. his voice sounds muffled as he speaks. “i’m fine, really. dad just drank too much tonight and...” he can’t bring himself to say it, to tell youngha what had happened because he would only worry more.
