Hi, I am currently trying to put together my portfolio for a fashion design course at university. I have been told that I have an interview in 4 weeks time, so I'm currently stressing out about it! Is there any advice you could give me to help? I would really appreciate it! (Your swimwear designs and illustrations are beautiful by the way!) Thanks.

hi i'm currently a high school student in Australia and it becoming that time where everyone wants to know what to do with themselves. So i do textiles at school and just this year is where your subjects become more serious and we have started our own designs and creations in my classes and i am starting to think i would really love to do a fashion design course in uni and i noticed you said you did this? im just scared i wont be good enough or it wont go anywhere..Did you like fashion at uni?

Hi... Sounds very exciting!.. I think for me I'm creative and I loved designing... But I really struggled in my first 2 years of my uni course, I'm not great with a sewing machine or making, so I avoided that ... Fortunately my uni course went into specific paths in my 3rd year so you could focus on the area you were best at. So I would choose a uni course that offers you flexibility. My course went into areas like textiles, garment technology, designing for performance, design and communication.. I think you can do a mixture of textiles and fashion after you graduate... Just a fashion uni course gives you more options when finding a job!.. My job now is a swimwear designer.. But I also design all the prints for the garments too.. So it's a nice mixture. But honestly it's a great job. If your creative yourll really enjoy it... Just play to your strengths!!!! :) xx

ahh thats so cool, wish i'd catered my portfolio and final major towards something else. i've just finished my final year on a swim / lingerie design course and i'm struggling to find work in this sector so i was thinking of crossing over to something else because like you said the industry is so small.

Ahh well done!.. Where did you study? If you enjoy it then stay with it! Something will pop up. I had interviews for ladieswear designers... lingerie ..swimwear and print designer interviews from my cv & portfolio. And it took me 9 months before i got a job after uni.. and the same for most of my friends. It is competitive but you should do what your best at because it's soooooo competitive as i'm sure you know.

that's really cool, how did you crossover from fashion design to swimwear design? was it difficult? if you don't mind me asking?

I did a final year project based on designing Lingerie and swimwear, & Did a couple of Interns and learnt print design (which is where i continue to illustrate still) , I was never really a womenswear designer but I enjoyed doing something different.. i.e swimwear. So.. that's where I focused my job applications & portfolio on. It was hard in the respect that there is less jobs in this sector.. plus I always wanted to be a designer and do prints too.. which is near on an impossible role to find...but I'm able to do it in my current role :)

Hi, I work as a Swimwear designer, but illustrating is a passion of mine. I studied Fashion Design at Uni :)

New Life

I've decided I've neglected my blog way too much. I've relocated which has been so fun!

It's given me focus and now i've turned into a health freak.. but today I've seen the inspiration of what i could be so that's it now.. I am going to carry on with my nutritional plan, continue my 3 mile runs 4 times a week and I'm going to begin the next stage... Weights. I go to Canada in a few weeks and I'm determined to have beauty abs and the rest!.. 

In 3 weeks I'll also be blasting the gym every morning before work! 

After all it's free and I can't think of any other way to make me feel amazing!!! Can't believe it's taken me to get to this point... but im proud! 

I am going to treat myself to more protein world shake soon.. Can't wait!
