hello and happy birthday sonic!
It's been a while since I posted art or a writing piece, so I signed up for the sonic big bang!
while this was absolutely supposed to be a finished piece, I ended up deleting about half my work right before the deadline and simply just didn't have the energy to redo it all.
im getting to a point where creating is simply not fun anymore; it's not bringing me personal value to write and draw anymore. Maybe I'm burnt out, maybe I just need to stop comparing myself to everyone else, but you may not see or hear anything from me in a long time. I need time to myself to figure out what's wrong and get my brain out of this cycle of self disappointment.

Something was off about him.
Shadow catalogued everything instantly, instinctively, like he used to do with her. A sheen of sweat under the fur. Shortness of breath. Flushed ears tilted slightly back.
Tails cocked his head gently, ears flopping left with the movement. âDid you need something?
Heâd been upset that morning.
Testing had been longer than usual, more of the scientists poking and prodding at him, rough hands trying to figure out how he, possibly, could ever be the cure to all ailments known to man.
The muzzle had been a new addition.
He hadnât meant to bite one of the scientists.
She had just gotten too close.
Shadow pushed open the door to Mariaâs bedroom, the one room on the ARK that felt less like government regulation and more like comfort and warm hugs and late night snacks. Maria said the word for that feeling was âhome.â He didnât understand the definition of the word, but he figured he didnât need to.
Blue eyes lifted as soon as he pushed his body through the crack in the door, a smile lighting up Mariaâs face as soon as she saw him. The gap between her front teeth was his favourite thing about her grin.
He could tell Maria was tired; her eyes didnât light up the way they normally did when she was happy.
Shadow felt his ears perk up at the sound of her voice, but ignored it and stumbled over to the bed so he could headbut her leg.
She cocked her head, golden brown coils falling into her blue eyes.
Maria reached around his waist and hefted him up onto the bed, settling him in her lap. Shadow looked up at her, noting how unnaturally warm she was under her nightgown, and how her toasted brown skin was flushed at the cheeks. She tapped his nose, effectively pulling his attention away from her symptoms.
âLetâs play a game,â she said, beginning to braid Shadowâs quills, something he hated, but didn't mind only because it was her. âTell me whatâs wrong, and Iâll try to make you laugh so hard that you forget about it.â
âI donât think thatâs going to work, Maria.â
She smiled again, the gap between her teeth shining down at him.
âLetâs just try, okay?â
