I know I haven’t posted in a while, but I have finally found the inspiration to do so. This post is regarding the popular webcomic ‘Hanna is Not a Boy’s Name’ (or HiNaBN for the sake of brevity).
Anyone who has read this webcomic knows it is phenomenal. With a fairly unique art style, interesting…
uuuuum it’s her story, man. she can do what she wants. she technically doesn’t owe her fans ANYTHING because if i recall correctly, hinabn was experimental? and it was for fun. maybe everyone taking it so seriously has taken the fun out of it, and if that intimidates stone, i wouldn’t be shocked at all.
i dont like hinabn at all so this is just speaking from a random passerby point of view but for god’s sake, it’s HER work. she’s not getting paid for it (as far as i know) right now so it’s her choice.
tyson hesse’s comic, boxer hockey, has extremely sporadic updates. as does lackadaisy cats by tracy j butler. for butler that’s her job, but she STILL takes a lot of time to update. long time updates don’t mean they hate the fans, it just means that life is getting in the way of cranking out comics.
webcomic writers, artists, general writers - they are not your personal slaves, they have lives too. and their tardiness and choice not to put out new comics every other day doesn’t make them bad people or unappreciative. not everyone lives on the internet.
they shouldn’t have to forfeit their stuff just because you’re impatient. i can understand your frustration but please keep in mind authors are humans too. so. yep.
my name is becky b and thank you for watching The Ranting Hour
I’d like to add that she’s not “being lazy”. As far as I know she’s currently in a fairly significant tiff with 4DE over monetary issues and product things, seeing as how they are absolute SHIT over shipping products, etc. I’m pretty sure if you were at legal war with a company that you wouldn’t want people to expect you to cater to their needs just because they think they’re entitled to your creations.
Yep, preeeeetty sure she’s in a lawsuit with 4DE at the moment. She WAS making a profit from it, and isn’t anymore. They didn’t “drop her” for not updating, they’re just a poorly organized company and now Tessa’s trying to get to the bottom of it. Any of us would. And lawsuits aren’t exactly a walk in the park; I doubt she’s getting much free time these days as a result.
Look, I’ll admit, there’s a part of me that’s kind of given up and moved on to other fandoms, but it’s not out of spite to Tessa or the comic itself or anything like that. This stuff just happens. And when it does come back, I’ll greet it with open arms. But I’m not mad at Tessa, and it’s not my place (or anyone’s) to BE mad at her. Just relax, bros and brodettes, and try to remember why you started enjoying HINABN in the first place.
^^ Emily said it all. It’s a great comic and Tessa’s an amazing person. She’s dealing with a lot of things that are getting in the way of her work. The least we can do is be patient and encouraging, instead of bashing her. Once she’s back, i’ll be checking out the comic again.
