Ciao Fred! What are some of the Children's books you liked growing up (in Italian or translated in Italian)? I am finishing the Harry Potters series and am looking to read more stuff in Italian. Otherwise, literary fiction that is beautiful but straightforward. grazie!!
Ciao! Thank you for reaching out to me!
If you like fantasy books, I would definitely recommend Licia Troisiās books. Sheās an Italian astrophysicist who mostly writes fantasy books. Her most famous work is āLe Cronache del Mondo Emersoā (which translates to āThe Chronicles of the Emerged World), which I enjoyed a lot growing up. It has dragons, magic, battles and characters that I still think of as friends of mine. She also wrote sequels to this series, but honestly I didnāt read them so I canāt really express an opinion on them. She also wrote āLa ragazza dragoā (āThe dragon girlā), and yes it might be less captivating than āLe Cronache del Mondo Emersoā, but I loved it, it had such a great impact on me at the time and me and my best friend bonded over our shared love for this series so you get that Iām emotionally attached to it. Also what I like about this series is that some of the books were set in Italy and at the time I wasnāt really used to this.
Speaking of fantasy books set in Italy, a very popular book series among Italian children was āNina la bambina della Sesta Lunaā (āNina the child of the Sixth Moonā). Honestly, I read this when I was really young, so I canāt remember much of it. It was set in Venice, and it was about a young alchemist, Nina, who had to defend the planet Xorax against evil count Karkon Caā dāOro. The authour, who goes by the pseudonym Moony Witcher, also wrote āMorga la maga del ventoā (āMorga the wind witchā) which wasnāt nearly as popular, but it actually shaped me as a person. It was about this girl living on a planet called Emios, where love was prohibited. Everyone called her ālāimperfettaā (the imperfect one) because she was born out of love, and hence dangerous. I absolutely LOVED this book with all my heart, I literally cannot expressed how utterly obsessed I was.
Also, as a child I really loved Bianca Pitzornoās books. My favourite one was āAscolta il mio cuoreā (āListen to my heartā). It was about two friends, Prisca and Elisa, who are starting their fourth year of elementary school, and theyāre going to be assigned a new teacher. This new teacher turns out to be a horrible person (her description will NEVER leave my mind). Anyways Iām already telling you Prisca was one of my favourite fictional characters at the time and I projected onto her so much! Bianca Pitzorno also wrote āTornatrĆ sā and I canāt really tell you much about this book without spoiling you the end, but trust me, itās good (this book also had a great impact on me).
I canāt really think of other books, I might reblog this post with a longer list as soon as some other title crosses my mind. If any of my Italian mutuals have other suggestions theyāre very welcome to add on this postš
Anyways thank you for this question!ššš If you ever want more suggestions you can also dm me
