Mom's Comfort

Exploring the relationship between two generations, mother and daughter, whilst combining their strength creating a cape.

My mom was always into fashion, however she only managed to finish seematress collage degree and worked for a show making company for a little while. The aim of this continues collaboration with my mom was to make her feel young again and hope to fulfill her dreams of making garments. In my previous project my mom has helped me to make my degree dresses, as i involved my mom once already i wanted to involve her again in my cape making.

The idea was for her to speak polish and for me to speak English, however due to language barrier it would be hard to produce actual work if i spoke english only so we settled on polish. Nevertheless, this video is to celebrate the mother and daughter bond while creating something that both parties have been involved with.

Showcasing my cyanotype hazel print cape, filmed on the Pendle Hill.

The aim for this video was to showcase my hazel print cape, printed by myself and sew by my mother. The idea was to arrive at Pendle hill where last well know witch trial took place. And relieve the memories and feel at one with the presence of Pendle hill. I wanted to portray witches in the best light, hence the video having a positive feeling to it.

I've also involved my dog as my version of "a black cat" and even made a small cape for her too.

It was very difficult to film as it was a nice day and surprisingly busy on a monday. I did not want to film any humans just myself for obvious reasons that today's civilisation is too modern for what i wanted to showcase.

There's a witch in our forest

This video was made upon feedback received from my tutor. The aim for this video was created a sense of being followed. Witches long time ago had a difficult life as they've been hunted down, however even when sentenced to death, most witches stayed brave. I wanted to portray the feeling of braveness but also surrealism in this video as well as involve so act of speech. Middle of the video involves me chanting ' harm none, fo what ye will' whilst smudging ( cleansing) my crystal ball. In every part of the video it appears as if someone is constantly watching me up until the end where i ran off to later stop and confront my demons. This video could be taken as literal feeling of being followed, or mental imagination and struggle of feelings such as depression and anxiety where it might feel like your being followed.

Im happy with how this video turned out however, on the date it has gone dark really quickly and i wish for next time to take more footage to experiment with.

In the start of my second year of university i started combing paper and fabric, due to covid restrictions i have stopped doing it as i had to access to workshops. Once everything started opening back up i really wanted to start exploring the idea of merging two different components together.

Painted crystals

Crystals can be expensive, especially large ones. I wanted to re create and exaggerate common crystals such as, rose quartz, azurite, blue lace agate and amethyst

I've wanted to make another video showing how i make smoke drawings. I've also wanted to use the video it self as art therefore I've set the table with candles and flowers but also I'm wearing a red cloak.

Whilst working on a fabric project i was thinking a lot about the Pendle witches trails and how people used to cheer and use such events for their own entertainment, even children were forced to watch to witness murdering the 'evil'.

Luckily in 2021 being a witch is not such a taboo subject anymore, nevertheless I've decided to create drawings addressing the issues of such horrible acts.

My inspiration for the collection of fire drawings below was the idea of fear, anger, sadness or perhaps happiness at the time of the witches executions aa well as no doubt large crowds gathering to witness the witches deaths. In my drawings i tried to re create the crowded and uncomfortable environment on an A3 Paper.

Some of the shapes and patterns remind me of discomfort screams as well as flames. ( some witches were also burned alive, burning witches often meant cleaning them of any evils that apparently possessed them).

After further research to back up my studio work, I've realized that many of the female artists who explores the themes of spirituality also somehow involve feminist aspects.

I began exploring how certain female artists such as,Judy Chicago, portray men or at least somehow exposes men as the evil. From the days of first feminism movement, feminist artists aimed to be on the same level or sometimes above men within the art industry. After my first set of photos and videos at Pendle Hills I've decided to do another shoot at night in the woods, however this time it would be darker.

Acting upon feedback from my tutor, my inspiration for this shoot was the idea of being followed.

Most pictures and videos are filmed in the way as if I'm being followed. Unfortunately i didn't realize how quickly its gone dark hence why some videos/pictures appear very dim. However this lack of light adds an element of mystery and uncertainty.

Now that I'm almost done with this course, I've decided to look back through some cyanotype small fabric prints which i have bought desire to use on its own. As the large patchwork is a cobtinuous piece of work i will be adding each of these pieces to the final outcome. Im still going through the process of clearing out my work, therefore there will surely be more items to add.

For me, being a wiccans means being the friend of the world/nature. I do try to treat it as best as a can as it allows me be breath, to live and walk its beautiful paths, but it also allows me to be creative, it inspires me daily.

I try to create as little waste as possible in life as well as in my art. Working with fabrics means a lot of ,off cuts, hence what inspired me to create a patchwork of the fabrics I've been using. As i have been working a lot of with cyanotype, its my cyanotype nature and wicca inspired fabrics that i will try to showcase, amongst other fabric off cuts used in my recent projects. This mini project has also been inspired by the artist,Hilma Af Kilnt, who pushed me towards the idea of deconstruction and creation of a large patch work piece.

Mixing cyanotype fabric and other patterns/colours off cuts.

I have started with 5 small cyanotype squares and attached them one by one. I have them started adding more and more, these were off cuts from my latest capes. As i started running out of these off cuts I've decided to use some other left over fabric. As i started adding these different patterns and colour i began to Invision the end image and composition. It began to look whole. I've decided to add bigger pieces to the composition to add a different element, i wanted to keep showcasing the cyanotype print so i cut two different widths of my nature inspired cyanotype fabric. Ive not yet decided how ill present it, however inspired by the artist, I've decided to keep this piece large.
