Yeah…accidents. With the state of the world there was a limited number of condoms. Sex was riskier than ever, any man and woman that gave it a go risked pregnancy. Which was fine…sure…but they really didn’t have the resources to have any more kids. They got alone, sure, but each scavenging mission meant more work the next time; food didn’t grow on trees or shopping market shelves out there. The more they took the further they had to go out on the next missions. Adding kids to the mix…could run their supplies into the red zone.
“Should there…be a rule abou’ risky sex like tha’?” It seemed really really bad to have to put rules on sex, one of the pleasurable things left to them, but their rations couldn’t last forever. And each new member to their community put a little more strain on them; babies put strain on more than just rations…
Oli shrugged, sighing, “I dunno. Not for me ya say. But any other babies ‘n’…we’ll ‘ave it that much ‘arder.”
Em bit her lip. There was a rule, but she’d never thought it was harsh enough. It was a guideline more than anything else, and Em was absolutely sure it would be broken sooner or later. There were a few couples amongst them already, and even if they had managed to find some condoms from somewhere, condoms had an expiry date. Em didn’t know how to stress upon people how important it was to be safe. Being kept up all night by Lily’s screaming must go some way, but probably not far enough.
Sighing heavily, she rolled over onto her stomach so she could look at Lily properly. "There is a rule, but obviously we can’t enforce it. And, looking at the future in the long term, I...” She faltered, her face falling. She didn’t want to know how that train of thought was going to end. “I don’t know. It’s not fun to think about.”
