STAR WARS: EPISODE IV - A NEW HOPE (1977)
STAR WARS: EPISODE III - REVENGE OF THE SITH (2005)
AHSOKA (2023)
HE IS STAR WARS
anakin skywalker + The Spin
After witnessing Hayden’s return to Star Wars, first in OWK in 2022 and now in Ahsoka, I cannot help but think that why did it take us nearly 20 years to collectively claim this man as our own? Do we even deserve him?
In the prequels he gave his everything, his portrayal of Anakin was incredibly nuanced and he clearly had done his homework (e.g. nailing JEJ’s speech pattern and his vocal cadence, as well as David Prowse’s physical mannerisms). Looking at Hayden you could see exactly what George Lucas meant when he said he wanted someone who had ” that presence of the dark side”. But you could also distinguish the former innocent slave boy, who wanted to be a Jedi and make his loved ones proud. He was Anakin, he was Vader.
It still makes me extremely sad and upset that some fans thought their image of Vader at the time was the only right one. They had their heads too up their asses to see that Anakin/Vader was right there, exactly as George Lucas had written him, both passionate and powerful but also sad and pathetic. And of course there were those who did see it, most of them were just too young at the time/without a platform to express all that awe and outpouring of love, as it was mostly drowned out by the loud, spiteful hate and criticism.
I can’t even imagine the things Hayden had to hear, directly from fans and from the media. It must’ve been so discouraging for a young actor. Heck, he was 24 when RotS came out. 24. And still, after everything, he decided to come back. He could’ve declined when Deborah Chow called him and asked him to return to the franchise, I would not have blamed him.
We are extremely lucky to have him back as Anakin and Vader again. And we better remember that.
Animation Vs Live Action
I don't know if I'm going to make people annoyed here. I probably am. But I have to put this out there because it's bugging me.
A lot of the people calling for a live action remake of The Clone Wars can't actually give a good reason for why it needs to become live action.
"We need a show about Rex, Anakin and Ahsoka!" It already exists.
"We need a show set during the Clone Wars!" It already exists.
"It can go more in depth on certain plots and fix storytelling elements from the animated series!" Okay, but why can't animation do that? That's a reason for more Clone Wars content, not a reason for making it live action.
If what you want can be achieved in animation, then that's not a reason for why something needs to be made into a live action show.
Now, this isn't an argument against putting animated characters in live action shows because I do think that that's fun. But we don't need live action remakes of stuff that already exists, especially since animation is struggling to prove itself as a valid medium already.
I think because like it or not live action just feels more real to most people because animation isnt real but people ARE real. It feels more immersive to see an actual human being playing the roll rather than something that is artificial.
I'm not at all saying animation isnt good and that it doesnt have its place because it does. Animation is great! But I just think for most people it's way cooler to see our favorites come to life in the live action movies and shows that we love.
No, I'm still NOT over Ahsoka ep 5. Gods, Hayden Christensen was so fucking good as Anakin. I fucking love how he incorporated Matt Lanter's performance of Anakin from The Clone Wars, added his own Anakin and then fucking blew it up with Vader's line delivery. JUST FUCK.
He is so fucking good. And it isn't just the way he changed his voice for the part, but also his physicality, he INCORPORATED so many fucking facets of Anakin Skywalker, and it is just fucking brilliant.
And it destroys me that we are most likely never gonna see this version of Anakin Skywalker in live action ever again.
so if we assume that’s anakin, do we also assume that he can now switch between vader/anakin? does that mean you don’t necessarily need to join the dark side, you only need to confront it and that also means, the dark side is not inherently bad? does it also mean anakin can bend vader/the dark side to his will, without giving up his light essence?
is this what they mean by only a sith deals in absolutes?
I think it's more like if you let the power of the Dark Side control you it will corrupt you and consume you. There had never been a Force user that could control the Dark Side without being consumed by it. There was no redeeming them, no going back once you let it in you were as good as gone. And it seemed that Anakin had fallen to the same fate. That he was gone, completely consumed by Vader. But hes the Chosen One so eventually, given the opportunity, he was able to gain control of the Dark Side and come back to the Light. Something no other force user was capable of doing. So my thinking is that now that Anakin is one with the Force, which as Obi-Wan said makes you even more powerful, so perhaps he has gained the ability to control it without it consuming him again.
i love how every jedi involved in the clone wars struggled to adapt their morality to the situation while anakin “we must adjust to the times” skywalker treated tcw as his free therapy
Anakin was just keeping it real lol cause he's not wrong. Gotta do what ya gotta do.
Me, before watching the newest episode of Ahsoka, so used to animated Ahsoka looking so, well, old: Dang, Ahsoka is such a girl boss, love her so much, you slay queen, go kick some droid and terrorist butt!
Me, after watching the newest episode of Ahsoka, it fully dawning on me that Ahsoka was IN FACT a child soldier: This is…a child. A kid. No. Why are you in war? Please, go home, live your innocent life, you don’t deserve to see all this. Please. On behalf of the ENTIRE Jedi Order, who owe you the biggest apology known to this entire galaxy, I am so, so, sorry.
Yeah but Jedi are sort of like kings in that they sometimes have to take the throne even though they're still children bc their predecessor dies or can no longer rule. It isnt fair, but it is the path that lies in front of regardless. We also have to keep in mind that young Jedi arent like normal kids, they are much more mentally advanced and capable just by their nature and who they are. No one gets to choose the circumstances they are born into. Everyone would prefer for their lifetime to be during an age of peace. So basically these are the cards you're dealt, the question is what are you going to do with the? If you fold you die but if you play then you learn and get better folding is dying, do you choose to learn and live to play another day or do you fold and die?
Hey. Why isn’t the moon landing a national holiday in the US. Isn’t that fucked up? Does anyone else think that’s absurd?
It was a huge milestone of scientific and technological advancement. (Plus, at the time, politically significant). Humanity went to space! We set foot on a celestial body that was not earth for the first time in human history! That’s a big deal! I’ve never thought about it before but now that I have, it’s ridiculous to me that that’s not part of our everyday lives and the public consciousness anymore. Why don’t we have a public holiday and a family barbecue about it. Why have I never seen the original broadcast of the moon landing? It should be all over the news every year!
It’s July 20th. That’s the day of the moon landing. Next year is going to be the 54th anniversary. I’m ordering astronaut shaped cookie cutters on Etsy and I’m going to have a goddamn potluck. You’re all invited.
Hey. Hey. Tumblr. Ides of March ppl. We can do this

I like this version more
I love getting unaccompanied minors (kids flying alone) who so clearly just. Don't want to be here lol. Sometimes I get to know a little of their story, like their parents are divorced, or a family member died and they're heading to the funeral, but usually they just don't want to talk about it and that's fine. But I always treat the flight like it's a challenge to make them smile. I offer them snacks and soda but that's never enough, that's whatever, they could get those from an airport vending machine. Chump change. So then I tell the worst jokes. Just the most embarrassing, kindergarten teacher, annoying dad jokes you can think of. And those always get a groan, or a "Seriously??" And that's my in! Now I can say "Why, what's your idea of a good joke? No, come on hotshot, make your best joke, let's see it." And they hem and they haw but of course they eventually tell me their very best joke because kids are little competitive comedy goldmines. And it's always super funny, so I laugh, and that's where they slip up. Because you know what you almost always do when your joke successfully makes someone laugh? You smile. And I'm like. Gotcha. Rookie move. Now you're going to end up having a good time in spite of yourself. I win.
I have a deep appreciation for this human
