2 AM, 2015

Two images from my series 2 AM  were on exhibit at Northern Michigan University’s Students’ Art Gallery as part of The 303 Show, which ran from April 11th, 2016 until April 22nd.

2 AM is a series of seven night photographs exploring the uneasiness, silence, calm and tranquility that one experiences while alone late at night. 

I use single figures to emphasize isolation and wide angles to distance the viewer from the scene. Each figure has their back turned to mask their identity, allowing the viewer to imagine themselves in the scenario pictured. 

2 AM also explores the contemplativeness of the night, and draws attention to the colors that come out when the sun goes down.

Unforgettable, 2016

My piece Unforgettable  is currently on exhibit at The DeVos Art Museum as part of the show 62 Point Perspectie, which opened on April 13th, 2016 and runs until April 29th.

My work focuses on memory, specifically within the tradition of snapshot photography. With snapshot photography, we capture moments that we want to remember forever, but what happens when we look at a snapshot down the road and can’t remember why we took it? Our snapshots are only meaningful to us and those who were present when the image was taken — and they may not be meaningful to us forever.

Unforgettable utilizes the practice of snapshot photography and its ability to capture memories so that we can look back on them and, hopefully, remember them in full. In this work I have taken images from my own archive, printed them at 4x6 on glossy paper and painted over all of the recognizable people with white acrylic paint, leaving only the backgrounds and the body language of the painted-over figures for the viewer to gain meaning from. Unforgettable is an exploration in how our archives look to strangers or may look to us in the future.

Diary From The Darkroom is a compilation of my explorations with shooting black & white film, both 35mm and 120mm. Techniques include double exposures, layered negatives, painted developer, hand-coloring, litho prints and photograms, as well as scans of the entire negatives or contact sheets themselves.

Fisher Body 21, 2016

3D Model, Digital Photograph

Fisher Body 21 is a combination of a still photograph, taken at the Fisher Body Plant #21 on Piquette Ave in Detroit in 2013, and 3D modeled graffiti (based on actual pieces I photographed on Detroit’s East Side in 2013)  flying off of a 3D modeled wall. Fisher Body 21 looks at what graffiti would look like if it was actually three dimensional, instead of made to look three dimensional on a two dimensional plane.

Banquet Still Life is a 3-D modeled rendering of a still life scene. Based on traditional Baroque still life paintings, Banquet Still Life looks at the possibility of living in a world where nearly everything is made of glass.

The Death of Ophelia, 2016

Digital Composite

The Death of Ophelia is a work-in-progress digital composite, which re-imagines the 1852 painting Ophelia by John Everett Millais. The Death of Ophelia will be a modern depiction of the fatal death of Ophelia in Shakespeare’s Hamlet and part of a larger work-in-progress series titled Re-Imagining The Classics, which will consist of digital composites like this one, with modern interpretations of famous paintings, scenes from plays, literature, and myths.

Digital Photographs

Actions was inspired by the high-contrast black and white images by photographer Henri Cartier-Bresson. Each image captures a banal everyday action, utilizing high contrast black and white to remind the viewer of the days of shooting with black and white film.

Sugarloaf Mountain is an image taken at the peak of Sugarloaf Mountain in Marquette, MI part of Michigan’s Upper Peninsula. The image is seen above in the shape of the Upper Peninsula.

Krissy & José’s Wedding

August 7th, 2015 | Hellenic Cultural Center, Westland, MI

Krissy & José’s August 2015 wedding was beautiful, and I had such an amazing time photographing all of the details of their wedding, from the hotel hours before the wedding started, Krissy and her bridesmaids getting ready, the full ceremony, and full reception, with a special set of shots of the Wedding Party at Hinz Park in Livonia and family photos during the ceremony.

Alpha Gamma Delta Pancake Breakfast

The Zeta Upsilon Chapter of Alpha Gamma Delta’s 2014 Pancake Breakfast philanthropy event was a huge success with great turnout from the Greek community, including alumni in town for Zeta Upsilon’s 25th anniversary!

29 Things, 2014

Digital Photographs

In 2014, two things came together to make this series. The first, was a set of Photoshop actions I downloaded that mimic Instagram filters. The second, was an assignment to create enough objects for my entire art class -- costing no more than $20 in materials. The result is my series of photographs of Downtown Marquette, MI. Each image has a “filter” applied and a square crop to mimic the Instagram app.
