"I agree." Xavier was a bastard and several other things Caressa wouldn’t say aloud. She wanted to stay as far away from him as she possibly could. He would have done the unthinkable if she had not gotten away.
"Oh it is." Caressa closed her eyes and smiled up at the sky happily. There was no way to see the stars here but at least there were no clouds out to cover the moon. "i wish we could see the stars. I miss them." On her island she had been able to see them all. There had been no lights to cover up their glow. Here in New York the lights were so bright it was like the stars hid for cover.
The water of the pool washed away the itch for the sea, if only for a moment. “Have you ever seen the ocean?” She asked curiously. If she hadn’t she was missing out.
Emma looked up, nodding as Caressa mentioned the stars. Back when she had nothing else to do, she'd look up beyond the confines of her cage and stare at the stars, imagining what it would be like when she was finally able to be free.
At her question, Emma shook her head. "No." she said softly, taking in a deep breath and leaning back on the edge of the pool. "Not up close, anyways. There are a lot of things that I've never seen."
Running her hand across the top of the water she watched the other woman, and was intrigued at how at peace she seemed to be while in the pool... but the way she talked about the ocean let Emma know that she longed for something more.
New York was a big place, but for people like them, different people, it was just like another cage in which they had to hide who they were.
I can not sleep.

*nods and takes a deep breath* I was almost a mother once... *she looks up at Caressa and nods, her smile sad* I wasn't ready... I lived in a cage, literally.. but I wanted her so badly. I thought that somehow... having her would make everything better. But, she was stillborn, and... as much as I hate to say it... that was probably for the best. They would have killed her the moment she was born anyways.
