I don't frequently go to museums because I don't appreciate or enjoy them the same way the people I go with do.

Art museums are especially difficult. The art doesn't speak to me the same way it does to others.

But I always try to find a piece that I like, a piece that reminds me of something and hopefully one that makes me laugh. This way I at least have some sort of conversation material afterwards.

Give me books that come with a playlist.

I wish it was a more common occurrence. Perhaps it is too much additional work to create a playlist that matches the vibe of the book.

Listening to music while reading is so intertwined for me. However my random playlists will probably not fit the current book.

not to be boomer on main, but why does every book have ten special editions these days? Special editions used to be rare... which is what made them special, now every other book -- especially from a popular or anticipated author, gets a special edition from the first printing. But at least first printing I get, but why does six of crows get a new special edition every year? also now that hardcovers are over 30 dolhairs, special editions that just have foiled pages and art on the inside cover and cost 50 dollars seem especially insulting

I rarely purchase books new anymore (praise libraries) so when I do decide to buy a series it's so hard to find a matching set used...

There's something magical in the mundane.

Like in early spring days where everything feels new again. Cold winds but warmth in the sunshine. The barest shades of green poking through the greyness. Tractors driving down dusty roads preparing for the first sowing.

No matter the terrible things throughout the world, life begins anew.

I think I'm on a mini crash out... I've DNFed so many books in the last few days. Several of them are books I had been looking forward to reading. But after struggling through the first few pages I set them aside.

I don't know what mood of book I'm currently interested in.

Sometimes I am a pessimist when I start reading a book. When I've adored the last book by an author, I think how could they possibly write another book to compare to the last. I have high expectations but also low?

Perhaps this pessimism helps mitigate my disappointment?

hey quick PSA but “reading before bed to wind down” only works if you’re normal about books btw. if you aren’t you are going to end up awake at 2:52am after finishing the whole book just trust me on this one

A couple months ago I read a book. Not an odd thing for me but this book really stuck with me. About a month later I read a post or article or something about reviewing books and my takeaway from this was "If a book makes you think about them at seemingly random moments, perhaps considering altering your review. Maybe it deserves more stars." I immediately thought of this book, went to my Goodreads account and was disappointed that I had already given it 5 stars because I couldn't increase it. And I continue to think of this book.

I don't think this book is revolutionary in any way. Or even a spectacular piece of literature. I do think its clever but not outstandingly so. I have recommended this book to friends. And I'm sure they will just shrug and say it's alright or something along those lines.

It's part of a series and unfortunately for the second book my expectations were too high. It was fine. In fact it may have been good but my brain kept thinking about how much I adored book one. In fact, I can barely remember the plot of the second. I still haven't read the third book and I'm hoping some additional time will help me enjoy it.

This is one of the examples of why I now no longer read a series back to back. My bias for book one is too strong and it makes the others look bad.

My other example is a series where you meet the final male character early on but he is not a pleasing character. He is intentionally written in a way where you don't like him. I assume so he would have a redemption arc. However I'd forgotten about this book for ten years. I'd read the previous book months before the final release date and just forgot about it. Fortunately for him, in these ten years I completely forgot about him or why I disliked him. So I enjoyed the book a fair bit.

It wasn't until after I read it that I looked at reviews and the way they all hated this character was impressive. And in reading these I remembered a little bit more and that I also didn't like him.

So I am now a firm believer that having too much bias in either direction can ruin a book.

A few weeks ago I was talking about libraries, my love for them and services they offer or have offered. During this I recalled a precious memory.

"Do you remember the bookmobile?" They did.

I remembered climbing into this vehicle. (As a small child I climbed into it, not stepped up into it.) I remember the feeling of awe, as if it was the most magical thing. The back of this vehicle was full of books! Shelves and shelves of books stuffed into the back of this vehicle.

I hope other children have had or will have this experience. I know bookmobiles still exist in other communities, usually ones where the libraries are too far away. It is a delightful service.

Belle's reaction to the library from the Beauty and the Beast is a similar feeling. So I know there are others out there who would have or appreciate that feeling.
