To my dear Emm,

Every now and then, I contemplate on what I do to deserve you. A loyal ally, a confidant, a sister. You have been one of the greatest blessings I received last year and for me to take part in your birthday for the second time is just grand.

Months have passed and you are still the same person I’ve come to know. Our friendship started at a game which forces people to interact with people for survival. Who would have thought we’d jell like this? Who who would have thought we’d outgrow the labels they donned on us? And who would have thought we’d survive that? No one did. But we know we would. And we did!

More people have gotten in our circle and there, we also made circles which one of us not included. Many people have already stood in our way. Many joyful days have faded. Life happened and we don’t get to interact with each other as frequent as we did anymore. But I know in my heart, you’re still here in the same place I put you on.

Adrift in our paths are also our dreams we individually work on. We are still the same underdogs in the game clawing ourselves into the top of the pack in life in the hopes of meeting each other on the top whilst taking different routes.

Roaming still inside of us are our demons we kept on silencing. We understand each other’s emotional instability and we share and nurse things people wouldn’t understand because in this way we feel alive. We had the same dark experiences and we share the same emotional baggage within us. And with carrying those burdens with you, I wouldn’t mind. It’s gonna be a lot lighter until we get past it.

Inkling to the fact that you’re near to settling down, I still hope for the best that’s coming your way. The next chapter is already open for you; you’d just have to find courage with the one you’ll love to trudge into greater things life has in store for you.

Embedded in my heart is your name that spells ‘tenacious’. I’d forever be grateful to making cahoots with you. To more secrets, giggles and rants we are to share, cheers to that! I hope that you enjoy this day and I claim success already in your law school. I love you bb! I miss you!

A tear dropped in your eyes when you heard my first cry. I know that. Mom told me so. You caressed my naked little body, saying how happy you are to see me kicking into your palms. I wish I could already see you that time because it could have been the best scene that I’ve seen in my whole life. I could have heard you sniff and giggle at the same time as you kissed my little toes and my little hands. I missed that scene, Dad. And I wish I would never miss another precious moment with you again. You are my best playmate. Remember how you throw me in the air and catch me with gentleness? Mom said I laughed so hard when you do that. She said, she could see how much I trusted you that she can’t see any fear in my eyes when I’m with you. Dad, do you remember how you brought me in the park and taught me how to walk? Mom said, you were so happy when I tried to make a step and walked towards you. You even hugged me tight and said that I would be a good athlete when I grow up. Dad, I am not an athlete today, but I know the right way to which I should go. Thank you for teaching me that, Dad. You’re also the one who patiently taught me how to speak, right? Mom said, you spent a whole day just for me to learn how to speak “Mommy” and “Daddy”. You jumped out of joy when one day, I suddenly burst out the word “Dada”. Yes, Dad. She told me that it is you who came first into my mouth. You are my first love because it is your love that molded me. Now, I know which words I should choose to say to make a good statement with full honesty. I know how to express my thoughts with braveness. Thank you for teaching me how to speak Dad. Remember my first day of class, Dad? You were the one who brought me to school and you witnessed how afraid I am. But because of your words of wisdom, I had the courage to face tat new chapter and promised myself that I will make you and Mom proud. You see, Dad. I made you proud. I have had good grades because I am inspired by the thought that you are always there for me, guiding me all the way. Thanks Dad. You helped me mold my future. Remember when I started to grew up, Dad. You started putting rules into my shoulders, and that I never understand why. You were over-protective and strict. I was disappointed. I know I’ve broken so many of your rules, and I’m sorry about that. I am so stubborn and hard-headed and I became such a rebel without any good reason. I regret those things Dad. I really do. Now, I understand that you’ve done it because its just for the best of me. You have been my hero, and you’ll always be. Remember when I had my first boyfriend? You were outraged by the news that you turned your back on me and didn’t talked to me for a long time. I’m sorry Dad. But i was really touched when suddenly, you just left a flower on my bed with a note that says, “I love you and I trust you.”. You never knew how much I cried because of that Dad. You touched not just my heart but my inner soul. That even if he just broke my heart, I could proudly say that I still have you in my life. You will never leave and hurt me, right? I only need one man in my life, and it’s you. I know haven’t been the best daughter you wanted me to be, Dad. But always remember that I am that daughter that you’ve loved and you always love since day one. I made you cry, I made you worry, I made you angry, I disappointed you. But you’re still there, accepting me and forgiving me over and over again. You are the best Dad! Because of you, I know that there would still be that one guy who would never hurt me. You. I have a confession to make.

Maybe, the very reason why I am so afraid of being left by the people I love is because the first guy in my life left me just before I get to see the light of the world. The sperm donor. The dna supplier. The father I never had.

Am I a mistake? Am I just an accident? Am I uncalled for? Maybe yes. Because if I am a blessing, I should be happy right now. I could have been contented. I’m such a bad person. God gave me this life but I am not happy of it. And that’s because someone is not happy of it too. Someone abandoned this life, ran away from it and threw it as if it’s just another garbage in a bag. I’m a mistake. A very big mistake.

I promised myself that I’m not gonna find that person. That he is just a part of a past that is not worthy of my memory. He is a stranger I shouldn’t talk to. A creepy clown. A monster in the dark. I told myself over and over again that he does not matter. That he’s a trash too. But why do I feel this way about the “unknown”? Why am I feeling this hallow in my heart? I hate you. Every time I think about you, I'm effortlessly happy knowing that I have someone like you in my life. A person who never ceases to make me feel loved and special. Someone who's always there, ready to share his shoulders for me to lean on. Someone whose ears are always willing to listen to my endless rants and stories. And in that red aisle, facing that wonderful image of Him who had made everything possible, with the guy, sweaty and nervous in the upper corner of the altar, and with her parents by her side, that girl who once just twirling her hair unattentively in class and wondering who’s her destiny, is now wearing this glamorous white gown, approaching that one man who had stand tall for her. She can hear the loud beating of her heart. Mixture of excitement, happiness and pure love for the man who had made her realized that loving may not be easy but indeed it is the most wonderful feeling of all. Now she’s ready. She’s ready enough to face in front of him, look him in the eyes and tell the word “I do”.

Saying goodbye is never the hardest part. It is everything that comes after. It is getting up in the morning and reaching across the sheets to find the other side of the bed empty. I was 12 back then when a guy in the neighborhood who was two years older than me, told me that he was masturbating at the thought of me. I didn’t understand what he meant so I asked my grandmother about it and she was so angry that she had it reported to our barangay captain. The guy, because he was still a minor, was not given enough punishment but just a community service for his filthy mouth. When I was 14, a tricycle driver kept on bugging me to ride his tricycle and telling me that he won’t ask me to pay for the fare but a single kiss in his cheeks. I was very scared at him that I am always paranoid that he might be following me everytime I walk home from school. Everyday I am catcalled by random guys, being whistled at, or being smiled at by strangers which send creepy shivers all over my spine. A guy, whom I had feelings with, tried to have sex with me, when I was 16. I had written that story here in my blog before, and as I had said, that’s one of the most unforgettable moment in my life. I was harassed. The embarassment and humiliation that I felt that day are still fresh in my mind until today. And it can never be erased. Can never be undo.

Two years ago, on my way to a job interview, I rode the train going to Ortigas. Desperate time, I have no choice but rode the train even though I know that it is full. Way too full. I was on a formal attire, a skirt just an inch above my knee, a longsleeve polo shirt and a two-inch heels because, for pete’s sake, it is a job interview. When we got to Shaw Blvd Station, people came rushing inside the train, resulting to a sardines-like position inside. And that’s when I felt a hand pressing my buttocks. At first, I didn’t mind because I thought somebody just accidentally touched my butt because of our situation, but then the hand started to press harder and it felt like he’s starting to caress it. I tried to move so that I can distract the owner of that disrespectful hand. But it didn’t budge. I want to scream, but no words came out from my mouth but one little tear in my eyes. I was so sorry for myself. I was so scared and such a coward. I run out of the train not even looking back to the maniac who harassed me inside. Again, my heart was broken by guys who only think of themselves. And because of this, I have some things to say to all of you.

We don’t dress for men. We dress for ourselves. We don’t wear makeup to impress men. We wear makeup to make ourselves presentable especially at work. We don’t wear shorts to attract guys, we wear it coz it makes us feel comfortable. Same with sleeveless top. We don’t keep our body clean and flawless to make men keep their eyes shot on us, we just believe that being clean makes us healthy and young. We don’t spend an hour or two in front of the mirror making ourselves pretty just to be catcalled or receive malicious whistles from guys. We do it coz sometimes it feels good to see the beauty within ourselves and not hearing it from somebody else. We don’t go to clubs or bars to search for guys or flirt with them. Just like you, we just wanna have fun. We are not made to entertain men. We are made to be loved by them.

That’s why it’s disgusting to read comments from guys who always say that women are raped because they show them that they wanted it. That because they wear short shorts, skimpy skirts, crop tops, pushup bras, or whatever clothes they came up with. It’s disgusting to blame women for the crime that was supposed to be fought for them. Harassment is harassment. Rape is rape. Whatever she wear, wherever she is, whoever she was with, whatever time is it, as long as there are heartless maniacs out there, she is not safe. We are not safe. So don’t blame her. Nobody wants it. Nobody asks for it.

PS: My post is also for all the guys who are also victims of harassment and rape. For all of you people, I am praying that one day, you’ll find the justice that you deserve. Be strong, I know you are.

Loving someone is not just about the happiness that you felt the first time you held his hands, or the moment you first kissed his cheeks. Loving someone is also about the pain you felt in your heart the first time you caught him lying to you, and the heartache you felt when everything seems to be falling apart between the two of you. Because love is the product of all things. Happiness, inspiration, faith, trust, hope, pain, tears and even heartbreaks. When you fall deeply in love with someone, you should expect that there would come a time when you have to feel the pain, to feel those little cracks somewhere inside you, he may or may not mean it. There’s no exception to that. Not even you.

You don’t have to blame yourself when your relationship has come to an end. Remember, there’s always a reason for everything. Feel the pain. Let your heart feel the pain. So that when you get to know the real feeling of being hurt, you would never allow yourself to feel it again. Stop being rude to yourself. Life doesn’t end with just a single heartbreak. Stood up and go on with your life, making those pain your guide to a better you. Let go of those who make your load too heavy to carry. Let go of those bad memories. Let go of those people who can’t love you as you. Let go of those people who do nothing but judge you, use you and make you feel less worthy. Look back. And you’ll see those who are willing enough to stay by your side despite those times you chose to set them aside. Appreciate those who followed you even how many times you ran away from them. They are worth your time and your love. Because when you broke your heart, there would always be those people who are willing enough to pick up those broken pieces. But don’t force your heart to heal. Because there’s a right time for everything. You just have to wait. Moving on takes a lot of time. But still, nobody has the right to avoid you from falling in love again.

First things first. Hindi ako galit. Pero hindi ko alam kung anong magiging reaction ko nung nabasa ko yung post mo. Ngayon na lang ulit ako nakapagblog kasi sobrang gahol ako lagi sa oras, kulang ang 24 hours para sa mga gusto kong gawin sa buhay. Haha. I was reading someone’s blog nung nakita ko yung post na yun. Medyo nacurious ako kasi mahaba. Alam mo naman ako, tsismosa. Haha. Nahook ako, at the same time, I was sorry kasi of all people, alam na alam ko ang pakiramdam na magkaroon ng broken family. Hanggang dumating sa part na umamin ka. 

Three times, four times, five, di ko alam kung ilang beses kong binasa yung part na yun kasi di talaga magsink in sa utak ko. Para akong grade 1 na natututo pa lang magbasa. Yung utak ko, pinipilit na alalahanin yung mga nangyari sa past, simula nung una kong nakilala si “Yanyan”, yung mga Tinychat moments, yung palitan ng messages inbox, yung mga kalokohan. YUng tinatawag akong matanda na daw ako. Yung “crush sana kita kaso matanda ka na.” Hahaha. Di ko talaga alam, sobrang gulat na gulat ako. Naalala ko pa nung ginawan niyo ako ng blog ni Elaine para sa birthday ko. Basta nagflashback lahat. As in lahat lahat. Napapangiti ako pero sobrang kirot ng puso ko. Hanggang ngayon, habang sinusulat ko to. Nung nadeactivate yung “feelingdanielpadilla/doneyell) nagmessage agad ako sa kanya sa fb, pero seenzoned ako. Nagtampo ako noon pero inisip ko na baka busy lang sa pagaaral. Kasi maliban kay israelmekaniko, yung blog na yun ang takbuhan ko kapag gusto kong tumawa at kapag namimiss ko sila. Kasi isa ang blog na yun sa mga naging sobraaang malapit sa puso ko. Di ko alam kung paano ko natapos basahin yung post, pero ang tanging alam ko lang, hindi ako galit at hindi ko pinagsisisihan yung pagkakaibigan na shinare ko sayo, si Yanyan ka man o hindi.

Salamat kasi at least ngayon, wala nang pader na maghihiwalay sayo at sa katotohanan. Ngayon, tanggap mo na ulit ang sarili mo, at bilang kaibigan mo, masayang masaya ako para sayo. Lagi akong masaya para kay Ian, sa mga nakikta kong pictures niya sa facebook, masaya ako kasi mukhang masaya siya sa kanyang pagaaral. At hindi ako titigil na maging masaya para sa kanya. Kahit seenzoned ako, at least ngayon, naiintindihan ko na. Mananatili ka pa ding kaibigan kahit nagtago ka noon sa pagkatao ng iba dahil hindi naman mapapantayan yung mga tawang nabigay mo sa akin noon. Ang drama na diba, ew. Hahaha! Basta, hindi tayo friendship over. Mahal ko kayong lahat, at tanggap ko kayong lahat kahit anupa man ang mangyari.

Someday, we’ll go to Japan together. Let’s travel hand in hand on the wonderful Land of the Rising Sun. I want to watch the beauty of Mountain Fuji with you. I wanna take a walk along its famous streets as pink cherry blossoms fall along our way. We’ll visit its old temples and Torii. We’ll ride the famous Bullet Train and experience its extreme speed. I want to wear their cultural clothing, the Kimono. And you’ll wear the same too. We’ll eat different Japanese foods together like our sushi and sashimi. And before we leave that place, we will make sure that we’ll learn how to speak even a little Nihongo. Watashi wa anata o aishite.

Someday, we’ll go to Venice together. We’ll enjoy the beauty of that small yet very romantic city in Italy. That little city separated by small canals and linked by little bridges that’s why it’s called “The Floating City”. I have been dreaming of going to this place with you. It’s very romantic to imagine you and me, sitting on one of its famous canoes, a violinist plays a love song for us as we have our tour around the city. And oh! I won’t forget to taste their delicious Italian dishes with you. A dinner date with you on one of the famous restaurants in the city would be very unforgettable. We’ll also try to wear their traditional clothes, you, having a fake mustache and overlarge hat, and me, wearing a colorful camisa and a long black skirt. Isn’t that cute? Yes, it is. Ti amo, Cara.

Someday, we’ll go to London together. That beautiful city in England. Can you imagine how sweet it is holding your hands along the streets of that unbelievably wonderful place? Imagine, how we’ll run along the streets of London until we reach that Big Ben clock tower and wait until it strikes twelve. We’ll talk endlessly about things, laughing our hearts out with our own corny jokes. We’ll reminisce those times since we first met each other until we became couples. We’ll take pictures together especially inside that red telephone box and in that famous London Bridge. We’ll also visit that one big bookstore where old books were displayed. We’ll ride that red London double decker bus and enjoy the royal feeling of the place. All I ever wanted is to be with you in this place, and that would be very memorable. I love you.

Someday, we’ll go to Paris together. The famous City of Lights and Love. The place every love couples dreamed to visit together. We will sit on one of its parks as we gazed up the beautiful Eiffel Tower. We’ll watch every couples that walk in front of us, hand in hand, like us. We’ll talk about things, like our future and our plans in life, as we eat our ice cream together. We’ll visit fairs and ride the Ferris Wheel. It’s very romantic right? If we’re already too tired to keep on walking, we’ll rest inside their famous cafes and sip their delicious and relaxing coffee. It would be really fun playing around with the funny mimes around the city. And before the day ends, we’ll go inside one of its Catholic churches and thank God for that wonderful day that He had given us. That would be the best day ever! Being with the one I love in that place I’ve dreamed to visit someday. I could never ask for more. As long as you are here by my side, nothing could ever compare to the happiness I feel inside.
