Reading The Wind in the Willows for the first time and
sorry but once you notice how often ppl use a southern accent as shorthand for being unintelligent you can never unsee it. classism is baked so deeply and why are you acting like anyone who talks the way my grandfather talks is stupid.
Was driving with my grandmother and in broken English she says “no eyes… no nose… no face. Don’t trust.” To which I looked around wildly in search of this omen of ill portend.
Cybertruck. It was a cybertruck.

Soooo they actually turned Isabella Linton from a victim of abuse to a willing participant? To a pet play?
As a 'dog’?
For those who are saying that 'at least in the movie, she was given her full agency’, honey, Emily Brontë made sure she got plenty of that. In fact, book Isabella kept her wits about her enough that she finally made the sensible decision to go as far as she could from Heathcliff. She got a turbulent yet complete arc and her character development was remarkable. Hers was a character that most people would just dismiss without a second thought, but Isabella Linton had grown so much spine to the point that her son Linton got nothing at all.
So, for an 'interpretation' to reduce her to a willing participant to her abuser is atrocious. It's like saying what if all victims of abuse just snapped out of it and chose to 'enjoy it'? That way, there'd be no problem at all.
Anyway, ciao.
besides the fact that emerald fennel just straight up admitting she couldn't imagine heathcliff as a poc because she was too focused on the pseudo masochistic parts of the book when she read it is some of the biggest bullshit that's ever been said on the topic period i'm still stuck on how the fuck that could have happened. like did she skip the descriptions? did she just not care? is jacob elordi really her idea of someone looking racially ambigous? what is even going on.
also the fact that she's been emphasizing how this is an adaptation of how she imagined the story when she first read it at fourteen is so unserious you'd think someone adapting a cornerstone of english literature would give the source material a reread idk. just to make sure they aren't being ridiculously tone deaf
Emerald Fennell describing her film as her imagined version of Wuthering Heights from when she was 14 or something is not the flex she seems to think it is because its just highlighting all her privilege and prejudices she has had all her life and that she probably wasn't a very good English student
this fanfic shit is easy
“There is one thing, Emma, which a man can always do if he chooses, and that is his duty, not by maneuvering and finessing, but by vigor and resolution. - Mr. Knightley”
― Jane Austen, Emma
"i asked chatgpt--" okay well i asked the angel of music and he said i was an insolent boy and a slave of fashion.
Dr. Jekyll -> doctorates ✅
Mr. Hyde -> no doctorates ❌
observe how he subconsciously wishes he had never gone to medical school.
Im gonna be honest i made this as a shitpost but after five seconds of reflection I’ve realized that’s literally Jekyll’s motivation like he explicitly says he had to give up his wild lifestyle of constant partying to lock in and dedicate himself to his studies and is so so frustrated that being a “good” “productive” member of society takes up so much of his time and effort. going from doctor to mister is a reflection of that; Jekyll smothered himself with the label of Doctor and wants nothing more than to rip it off
Okay. But did he just heat up hot coals to eat them and then lizard crawl up next to him to warm him up...? Because if so.
Howfuckingcute.
