Peanuts (1959) by Charles M. Schulz
Cool, cool. The enchantment of a New York Christmas full of tourists wore off on me years ago, I don’t have the patience for it anymore.
Not the tourists. The city itself comes alive, don’t you think?
Happy Birthday Beethoven! The king of classical music, might I just say. Mind my asking, though, what exactly are lucky piano socks supposed to help you with?
Oh. They’re to, um, help me focus. I tend to black out during the juries. It’s a very strange out of body experience.
…To fuck you.
You want me to eat you out, yeah? I was lying, there’s not really a line. But you will have to wait a couple weeks, ‘cause I’m off to Texas. And no, I don’t have an accent, thankfully.
You think I want you to what.
It’s not surprising from her, though, so it’s whatever, I’m not going. The last place I want to be at Christmas time is New York anyways.
Oh. I’m from New York, as well. Why don’t you want to be there? I’m, um, Jewish, but it’s still extremely magical.
Wow, cello, huh? Sounds cool. Piano is awesome. My mom put me in piano lessons when I was little, she thought it would make me be a classy lady. I like it, but it didn’t give her the results she was looking for. Double-major though, is it tricky?
Oh. Are you still taking lessons? Um, if you ever want to, um, continue working on the piano, I would be happy to help you. It’s not very tricky. I practice a lot and I play in ensembles a lot. I’m busy. Which is okay, because I only have three friends.
Oh, um, I care. I know that we don’t know each other well, but I do. I hope that everything goes well for you today, and that your socks bring you a lot of luck.
Oh. Um, thank you, Tristan. That’s very kind of you to say.
Yay! I have my fingers crossed for you Emmeline! Awww well, I know I care. How are you going to celebrate his birthday?
Oh. Thank you. I’m, um, probably going to listen to all of his symphonies in my room.
Why? So I can eat you next? Get in line.
Um... excuse me?
Thank you very much, that’s very sweet of you. But your socks, the piano socks. Do you play?
Oh. It’s, um, really no trouble. Yes. I do play. I’m, um, a piano major. And a cello major. But also a piano major.
