during my first playthrough of bridge to the turnabout i got spoiled about the twist surrounding dahlia and iris but by the time i actually got the reveal i was still surprised because so much shit happened leading up to it i literally forgot they were twins

the way the player is lulled into a false sense of security with maruki’s reality drives me crazy. the game implies that akiren couldn’t be tricked by maruki only to reveal he was the first one to fall under his influence. you spend a whole week talking the phantom thieves out of their delusions and think to yourself “how could they be so stupid to let themselves regress?” only to be confronted with the same decision of staying in blissful ignorance in a perfect world, and while trying to reconcile this information akechi, who for the first time you really feel like you understand the real him, taunts you calling his life trivial and you have to wonder if you’ll ever know him or if this is just maruki’s idea of him

#i like the idea of akechi being a character who kinda haunts the narrative #it’s really in line with the game’s theme of hiding behind a mask #obviously the celebrity persona was fake from the beginning and even during the shido boss fight he purposefully made himself go berserk so #it’s not really the real him either there #then all of third semester is completely unreliable because it’s maruki’s reality and akechi is dead #in all you really only get a few scenes of the real him (the duel in his rank 8 and his death)#him being alive is even up in the air #his appearance in the true ending is subjective on whether or not it’s meant to metaphorical #just the idea of this broken kid who wanted to be understood so desperately but could never quite the rip the mask off #replaying p5r and im getting brainworms about him #persona 5 #persona 5 royal #p5r #p5 #p5 joker #p5 akechi #p5 royal #akira kurusu #goro akechi #akeshu #shuake #ren amamiya
