Closed Starter: Nightmares (Diane/Zoe)

Diane looked around. It was the same as always. She was standing in the great hall of her home, dressed in a long white ballgown. There was a party, a ball... the ball from the day her grandparents were killed.

The girl knew better than to attempt to stop anything. She was too experienced in her nightmares. Instead, she chose to allow herself to enjoy the brief moments of bliss before things fell apart. She walked to the nearest girl and curtsied, taking her hand and leading her into a waltz.

And then, things began burning. As they always did. But nobody reacted. Diane simply watched as everyone around her burned slowly from the inside out, green flames overtaking the whole castle. But she didn't react, not even when the girl she danced with burst into flames herself, burning Diane's hands.

Diane sat up in her bed, a cold sweat covering her body. Not a fearful sweat; just a reaction to the heat her brain thought was around her. She reached to grab the bottle of water by her bed, but winced, hissing in pain. She looked down. "Right," she whispered, remembering the burns. She heard her roommate moving and looked up, sighing. "Good morning, Z. Didn't mean to wake you."

What do the nightmares usually involve?

"They're usually the same thing."

"I'm walking through the palace, but it's burning. There's green fire everywhere. My parents and my brother are trapped in three different rooms. And I can only open one door and save one of them before the roof collapses, and I wake up. Sometimes I wake with burns from the flames... Viktor helps me treat them."

"I'm not afraid of him or his stupid curse. The nightmares are just what the curse does to me. They're my punishment for being a Romanov. I am not afraid. Angry? Yes. Annoyed? Yes. Afraid? Not a chance. I bear the curse proudly, because it means my family was important enough to be cursed. No matter how many injuries I wake up with, I will be afraid of Viktor before I am afraid of that bag of bones."
