I was wandering the Black Panther tag and saw your. post about people saying Black women shouldn't wear weaves or wigs. One, I totally agree with you -- a sister's head is her business -- and two. the scene isn't really a general condemnation, it's a character complaining about her specific disguise. which involves a wig. AS TV Tropes put it, the wig she has is terrible specifically to show that she was complaining about it and not all wigs/straight hair on Black women.

Thanks for clarifying. I figured it was probably something similar, but since I hadn't seen the movie I wasn't sure. I was mostly complaining about this post circulating on FB which really seems to shame other women. I'm glad the film didn't blatantly insult women and their choices like this post is doing. So frustrating!

I haven't seen Black Panther yet (because I don't do movie theaters), but I keep seeing a post going around on Facebook about how black women should not wear European style wigs/weaves as insinuated by a character in the movie, because it's white washing or whatever. The post also goes on to say that black men prefer natural hair and all I can think is, Okay, it's cool if you wanna rep your natural hair and I'm all for it but you shouldn't be bringing down other black women who choose not to wear their hair out. Additionally, why should any woman care about what men like? Women should care about what they like and what's best for them.

Like, really, people saying "Oh, but men prefer your natural hair," is just as bad as saying that they prefer weaves or wigs. Let a woman do what she wanna do!

Meet the Tanukis! My only regret during our trip to Japan is that we found these little guys so late! Phil and I have been looking almost all year for little figures we can take on our trips to stand in our place in pictures. We found these two in a shop near Arashiyama station last night. Their first trip out of the shop took them to Osaka Castle! And now they're headed to their new home in Korea--that is, until we make our way back to Florida in 45 days!
