i've been wanting to do a "master" post for my yuri manga collection that i can just change whenever i add anything new, so here it is:

do you think I should actually try learning german after years of not reading a single word in german, even though I suffered for 11 years learning it (was only good at it in first and second grade)

second of all, honestly if you have at some point started learning german, it's easier to pick up studying again because you already have the basics, on the other hand ... 11 YEARS??? bro that sounds exhausting, i would honestly just quit HA might as well start learning sth else, my adhd brain could never

anyways, german is quite hard, & personally i was raised learning german as a 1st language, even tho my parents are immigrants, so i was just lucky to learn it as a mother tongue. otherwise, i don't really understand why people pick german of all languages to learn when there are so many amazing languages on this planet that are easier & don't sound horrible, honestly i would just pick sth else

do you have a specific reason why it has to be german? i feel like if you're just forcing yourself, it's unnecessary, but if you feel really passionate about it, go for it. but i wouldn't do it simply bc you started at some point

thats why I was learning German since 1st grade

I didn't have a choice

I'm 4th grade people who were had a 4 (B) in German had the chance to learn English also, but I had a 3 (C)

so I learned German for 8 years in elementary and middle school (t'was mandatory btw)

then in highschool there WOULDVE been a choice to either learn German or english, but only for those who learned both up until then

but given I was only learning German, I had no choice

then 3 years later, after 11th grade, I went to another high school for 2 years to do Matura exams (a hungarian thing, needed for uni and such)

and I was very much, no way no how, I ain't learning German no more

and so I did an English exam during summer just ao I can prove that I CAN speak English

and I was allowed to switch for that last two years

so yeah

also, I live fairly close to the Hungarian-Austrian border (it's like 2 hours away by car, maybe a bit less?)

girly idk what to tell you, it's really just a matter of how much you want this. if you do, you can do it, if you don't, then don't. but it does sound like you have kind of a toxic on-off relationship with the language 😭😭💔💔💔

on 1st and 2nd grade I was soooo good at it

and then I was forced to learn the darned language in the "here's 20 words and their translation, learn all by next week and there's a test"

plus the fricken stupid grammar

and then they wonder why basically no one can learn any languages in a way that would matter and why they can barely speak to people in said language

cuz they were thought to think of a sentence in there first language, then translate it to the language at hand, then format it in their head an THEN say it

instead of teaching people to think in said language by the very start (so linking concepts and images to the words, as if they were a child learning their first language)

omg but you're so right 😭😭 it's so stupid how schools teach languages, i always thought it was way harder than it should be, when children can learn languages so easily. like yeah they're younger, but 16 year old me should still have been able to figure out spanish basics

calling green yuri "green yuri" was its downfall bc the manga is abt "the guy she was interested in wasn't a guy at all", but we know now that mitsuki is not a guy & the premise is resolved, so sumiko is just coming up with stuff on the spot for the sake of continuing the internet sensation "green yuri". i feel like this was supposed to be a shorter story with a smaller plot, but the hype just forced sumiko to keep writing a story that was just supposed to be simple & sweet, & i still don't understand why they have to publish a chapter every other week, when fans keep getting disappointed & sumiko could just figure out a better plot with more time. but maybe reality is, there was really never meant to be more plot than mitsuki not being a guy
