There was no denying that the week had been almost painfully long, and Mirabel’s energy had begun to wane very nearly in the middle of it. But, the weekend had come at long last, and she couldn’t have been more thrilled. With her duties completed and chores taken care of, she drank in the excitement of the prospect of a glorious two days filled with nothing. Rather, nothing aside from what she wanted to do. What she felt like. Having free time was something Mirabel was unaccustomed to, having come up in a home filled with constant bustle, and persistent comings and goings. Silence wasn’t something she’d ever been comfortable with, much like she hadn’t ever become truly comfortable with herself. And, silence only seemed to perpetuate the latter, leaving her with nothing but the roaring of her own mind.
Still, it was a state she was willing to brave in favor of exploration- exploration of this new, foreign idea of personal time. So, she’d planned accordingly, allowing herself all the tools necessary to fill her weekend with whatever pleasure came to mind. The plans had been laid, the stage had been set...And then, Mirabel was contacted by her boss, informed that another was unable to cover their shift for the day, and asked to fill in. Mirabel’s people-pleasing nature overwhelmed her, leaving her unable to say no.
Her elbow rested upon the top of the large, cherry wood desk, back bent as she thumbed through the book open in front of her. Her eyelids were heavy, urging to close, her breathing slowing as sleep threatened to take her. The sound of bells chiming above the door roused her from her state, and she straightened her spine immediately, forcing a smile to her lips. “Good afternoon! Are you in need of a room? Or, is there something else I can help you with?”
Alice stepped out of the Myth Smith, closing the door behind her and breathing out a sigh of relief. For some reason, everyone around seemed to need something written out today. It had meant a great deal of concentration and focus … something that gave her quite a headache. Oh, she enjoyed her work, loved to make things look beautiful and artistic for others, but goodness! What she wouldn’t have given for a moment to breathe, drink a cup of tea, and the chance to follow a curious little shadow that had entered the store earlier in the afternoon.
Well, for now, she planned to take the long way home. Perhaps it would give her a chance to stop by the Sweetest Things. Some little cakes to go with her tea would be divine. A happy little smile curved her lips as she patted her jacket pocket where her new book waited. She would sit on her little porch that overlooked the sea as she enjoyed tea and cakes and let herself get lost in the history of the Kingdom of Maldonia.
Turning to head towards the bakery, she blinked to find someone watching her. “Oh, hello,” she smiled. “Lovely afternoon, isn’t it?”
Since arriving in Ahtohallan, Mirabel had been working ceaselessly at finding her footing. With so many new places to explore, and faces to get used to, she found herself taking things one day at a time, as best she could. Things were different here, much different, and so much stranger than the land in which she’d grown up. The land Lost to an Enchantment, one of the first lands to fall to the discourse now raging through the realms. To say she was homesick would have been an understatement, but she’d chosen to focus each bit of her energy into ensuring she made a life here- a happy, prosperous life- and to ensure she showed her family how much progress she’d made, how integral she could be to a community, to making sure they succeeded in their new land. As the only Madrigal without a gift, and now the only Madrigal residing in Avalon, the days were often lonely, filled with an isolation unlike any she’d ever known. Which was, when she considered it, funny in its own right, considering how isolated and alone she’d spent her life feeling, even as she was surrounded by people.
The Myth Smith was a place Mirabel had been curious about since her arrival merely one month ago, though it was a place she hadn’t had the time, nor the courage, to enter quite yet. Bravery was in her blood, as was taking charge of any sort of situation. But, with so many unfamiliar places, and a way of life which remained completely foreign to her, she’d found herself holding back a bit more than she might have liked. Instead, she watched. She watched patrons come and go from the shop, taking note of the goings on and envisioning what precisely it might have looked like inside. Of course, she’d seen the blonde woman coming and going many times, and she’d managed to deduce that perhaps she was an employee of some sort, though precisely what her work there was, Mirabel had yet to uncover.
It hadn’t been her intention to come across in a strange or odd sort of way, though Mirabel’s personality itself seem to give way to such beliefs. So, when the woman turned to greet her, Mirabel all but froze, mouth falling open as she struggled to form syllables and string together a coherent response. “I- Mirabel.” Bringing her hand up, she smacked herself in the forehead with her palm, shaking her head in embarrassment at her obvious blunder. “I-Im sorry. That was...” Smiling awkwardly, Mirabel took in a breath. “Yes, you’re right, it is a lovely afternoon. I’m very much enjoying the weather.” Glancing up, Mirabel’s eyes darted towards the bakery. “Were you...Going for a treat?”

BIO:
Mirabel Madrigal was born the youngest of her sibling set, within the Amazing Madrigal family. From a land now known as An Enchantment Lost to the Darkness, the Madrigals had always been rooted in one thing- family. A series of tragedies affected the family long before Mirabel had even been thought of, bringing Abuela Madrigal to unintentionally activate their family’s miracle- magic, given to the Madrigal family so that they might help others, and help their town.
Gifts were given to Abuela’s three children- Pepa, Bruno, and Julietta- a tradition which then continued to their children, Abuela’s grandchildren. The gifts each Madrigal was given were intended to enhance their abilities to give back, to ensure their community flourished, and to maintain a sense of balance and peace. The family lived up to and upheld their responsibilities with each Madrigal child born, and each time another received their gift, the celebrations were marvelous, spirited, and filled with joy. That was, until Mirabel’s time to receive her gift arrived. As always, the Madrigal family gathered with the townspeople, their celebrations already planned and underway. However, when Mirabel approached her door, the gateway to her intended gift, something happened which hadn’t before. Her door simply disappeared.
The family, and the townspeople, were shocked, uncertain of what had happened or how to proceed. Still, life had to go on. The sense of rejection Mirabel felt, the sense of isolation, of being so different and left out of the one thing that seemed to make her family a family, weighed upon her from that moment forward. Still, she tried her best to remain positive and upbeat, seeing her lack of obvious gift as something which gave her the opportunity to provide for her family in ways unique to her. While the town remained the Madrigal family responsibility, Mirabel took on the bulk of the responsibility for the family itself. Maintaining a routine, a schedule, a set of chores and responsibilities exclusive to her ensured she remained relevant and busy.
Still, she possessed a sense of disappointment which couldn’t be shaken, and a kind of grief she never seemed able to put words to precisely. Despite her attempts, with each passing year it became more and more obvious that Mirabel simply didn’t fit in with the rest of her family. She was close with them, certainly, and especially so with her younger cousin Antonio. As things within the realms began to falter, so did the Madrigal magic, leaving Mirabel with powerful visions of a crumbling home, and the family’s candle, seeming to be the power behind the miracle, going out.
As time went on, her visions became more powerful, and through a chain of events, Mirabel’s visions (seen long ago by her uncle Bruno, before he fled the family) became reality. The family’s magic weakened, before collapsing near-entirely, leaving Mirabel to save the family’s candle, attempting to ensure their magic and powers could be sustained despite their home literally collapsing. The candle was saved, their home, unfortunately, could not be. Following the home’s collapse, Mirabel made her way to Ahtohallan, seeking refuge from all that was happening within the realms, and seeking a place to find herself, her purpose, and her own place within her family, and society.
PRESENT:
Mirabel arrived in Ahtohallan approximately a month ago. She continues to attempt to find her footing, and to acclimate herself to her new surroundings. She is happy to have a fresh start, but still feels out of place, especially without her family by her side. While she may have not truly fit into the Madrigals, Mirabel is used to having people around, family to lean on, and a sense of minor purpose. She hopes to be able to thrive in her new life, and to have finally found a place in which she can build a new life for herself. She is seeking friendships and connections that she hasn’t always been able to have, and wants to begin exploring her own dreams as well. Though, she still feels a sense of responsibility for her family, and wants to prove herself to them as well.
