breakfast would at least give them a chance to talk and for miss gray a chance to focus on something other than the books of camille’s library. he’d always known the other had quite the collection of books but he rarely spent enough time digging through them to find out just what it was she had collected over the centuries. clearly it was something of interest to miss gray, though he did hate having to be the one to remind her that yin fen poisoning such as mister carstairs was irreversible. magnus had heard about it flooding the downworld but it wasn’t his concern. he made a point of keeping out of trouble and he wasn’t about to step right into it because of something like yin fen. that was the sort of trouble he preferred to avoid. “no need to thank me, miss gray,” he told her, waving his hand as he moved towards the desk. it didn’t take but a moment before breakfast appeared on the table. he had his own preferences but he made certain to have a wide variety in case miss gray waned something specifically. pouring himself some coffee, he took a long moment to think about just how best to answer her question. the last time he’d been in love he’d fallen for a mundane. he’d stayed by her side until the very end and then he’d moved on. it had hurt, of course, but this was the curse of being immortal. “tessa,” he started to say, closing his eyes for a moment. “unless you fall in love with a vampire, you will forever outlive those that you grow close to.” it was a difficult lesson to learn but one that needed to be nonetheless. he’d already learned that with the mundane he’d once fallen in love with. now, he made a point to not get so close to those who would die, ones like mundanes. there was no point in getting close when they would die in the blink of an eye. “and i understand that you want to keep mister carstairs around just a little longer but there is nothing in those books that would help.” magic wouldn’t keep him alive. if anything the clave might have some suggestions for him, but otherwise the poor lad would die a painful death from a poison that there was no cure from. though something told him the vampires might have an answer. not that he would tell her. he wasn’t going to send her to what little were left after the clave had destroyed most of them. “you’ve been busy this morning, it seems. and unfortunately that’s what it is. a nasty poison that’s meant to addict and kill its users.”

her focus had never wavered from wanting to try and help jem find a cure for his sickness , his addictions . she wanted to nurse him back to health , to be the wife who would look after her husband in sickness and health . she got a small part of health and even without a marriage ceremony , was to be with him during sickness too . she sighed deeply , nothing was going to work and she knew in the back of her mind that she would lose jem . it was heartbreaking , to become so close to a man and to begin to bare her soul to him ; to love him like she had never felt love before and was to have to say her goodbyes to him . unacceptable in tessa gray’s mind . “ i will always thank you mr . bane , ” she watched as his magic swirled , a delicious breakfast appearing before her very eyes , “ if only my skills were as useful as preparing a hearty meal , ” she pulled out her chair to sit down . she hated the newly learnt immortality she possessed , pouring her own coffee and taking a pastry , tessa rested back in her chair , “ it is such a curse magnus , to outlive our lovers . harder when i only just learnt about this fact of my life . jem didn’t deserve this , he should be living . it is selfish however to try and force life into him , ” she felt like the worst being on the face of the earth . wanting to force another day out of her lover . “ it isn’t fair that jem will die like this . ”
