Rereading old notebooks with Xin Li’s bio and remembered this part. This is sometime just after Wukong gets out from under the mountain, maybe 1-5yrs. Xin Li ventures out to find him and bring him home, only to be told he has a mission he can’t abandon. (But at this point FFM has spent the last 500yrs without a King.) Xin Li and Macaque have done their best but they need Wukong. In desperation, she attacked but he stops her, bringing us to this moment.
