sometimes I play around with the idea that after jonah magnus' possession, elias bouchard's consciousness clung on. he didn't die leaving behind a hollowed-out, eyeless meat puppet, but he was suppressed so thoroughly by jonah that he could only watch as his body was used to torment and manipulate those around him. maybe sometimes, jonah's spirit receded, allowing him a few fleeting moments of freedom as the choking veil of his possession lifted, and elias could breathe in the world's air once again. but jonah took it away quickly; giving him just enough freedom as to not lose his sanity, but not enough to stop the bloodshed.

so paradoxically, elias is suffering the very worst of the Buried. he isn't pinned under six feet of dirt, but his consciousness is smothered and his hands bloody with crimes that he didn't commit.
