Well, I have a feeling that these next few years are going to get pretty interesting.
"Right, mostly."
"In regular school, I always liked mathematics and science. Although history is insanely interesting. Always a different story depending on the side you read it from. Canât say I know too much about the whole âbeing a spyâ ordeal. You?"
"I see."
"Math and science, the two school subjects that girls are supposed to be less than adept in. Good for you, Aliya. Prove the men wrong. I like history too sometimes, if it's interesting. But then again, whether history is interesting or not is subjective, right? I would like to be in surveillance. Especially since I'm the one that people see but don't hear. I see and hear almost anything."
"Something like that."
"In general or in relevance to this school?"
"Something like it or was I right?"
"We can start with school and then work our way to general things."
She shrugged, âWe all grew up together, same social circles. It was expected.âÂ
"Maybe. One can only hope to be good at such things."
"Social circles, right. I'm guessing that's the elite kind of social circle? Upper middle class and up?" As long as the other girl didn't use her social standing as a way to piss on the others, Kayla wouldn't mind.
"Well what else are you interested in?"
"The stranger things? Youâd be surprised what a girl sees in a private school where everyone knows everything about everybody else."
"Private school huh? Never had the pleasure of attending one of those. I see what you mean though. I see a lot of things when people aren't paying attention. I bet you'll do great at surveillance then."
Ginaâs eyes looked from the book she had propped in her lap. Eyes straining to concentrate further, but it was impossible. Slamming it shut, she sighed, finally placing two fingers over her aching temples. "Great," she muttered under her breath.Â
As she was getting a feel for the place she would be calling home for maybe three to four years, she noticed someone out of the corner of her eye. Of course she wouldn't be alone here, especially since orientation has just finished and they were told to explore for the rest of the day. It wasn't that that surprised her, though. It was the fact that although no classes had even started, there was a girl that seemed like she was already stressing out over imaginary homework they never received. She approached her, her face tilted as if she were a cat filled with curiosity. "Are you alright?"
"Iâve seen stranger things."
"A part of me is dying to know. I won't lie."
"Pleasureâs all mine."
"So what did you think of that orientation? Caught me kind of by surprise, to be honest."
Sebastian raises an eyebrow at her. âI was only using a tactic to get you to speak, and it worked, didnât it?âÂ
She eyed him curiously. "Then the question is, why did you want me to speak to you?" She gave him a dead serious look before relaxing and giving a small smile.
Beylah wasnât expecting the other girl to sit down but shrugs, giving a slight smile. âUh, just a biography. Itâs about Teddy RooseveltâŠâ it sounds kind of silly as she says it but shrugs anyway. âItâs kind of slow but interesting.â
"Teddy Roosevelt huh? Interesting. I hear he was a pretty good president, but then again, I'm Canadian." To think that someone read biographies for fun was almost unheard of, but Kayla could appreciate this girl's dedication to knowledge. After all, they were all here to learn something, right? "How far along are you in the book?"
"Thanks, Iâm Aliya. Aliya de Lioncourt. And you are?"
"Kayla. Nice to meet you."
"French."
"I like it. What's your name?"
Out of the Ashes...
When Kayla was a young girl, her parents saw true potential in her. She was very intuitive as a child, reading deep into othersâ facial expressions and words, something that some adults couldnât even do. She could tell when someone wasnât being truthful, or if they were hiding something, even if they had a smile on their face. When she was younger, she would reveal these findings to her parents, but as she grew older, she found it to her advantage to keep such information under wraps. She never knew when the lies would come in handy, but she soon learned that she could bend anyone to her will.
She had been on her way to ask one of her teachers a question about the homework when she almost walked in on them with another student, being a little more intimate than they should have. She watched them as they were too busy wrapped up in the moment, taking a picture as evidence. She kept that with her until the day her teacher and given her a grade she knew she didnât deserve. She knew it was wrong to blackmail a teacher, but it worked, and she held it over him until the day she graduated. There was a small part of her that reveled in the fact that she had so much power over him, and she held on to that when she left for Winston.
A Phoenix will Rise...
Kayla can be outgoing in certain situations. She may be friendly but sheâs always watching, always trying to catch someone in the middle of a lie, so she could use it to her advantage later on. She doesnât have anyone she considers a best friend, but she is friendly to everyone in the academy unless she has some secret that she plans on using to her advantage.

"If youâre going to walk with me sweetheart, donât be afraid to talk."Â
"You mistake my silence for fear. I wouldn't do it again if I were you."
"Oh, uh, sorry, were you talking to me?" Beylah glanced up from the book she was reading, giving the person a slight smile.Â
"Don't be sorry. What are you reading, anyway?" Kayla sat down next to her, curiosity piqued already. At least this one seemed nice.
"So you wanted to chat?"
âWith you? Why not? What accent is that anyway?â
