The Difference Between 7s and 4s
7s have an inner darkness that they donât want to acknowledge or talk about.
4s have an inner darkness that they really want to acknowledge and will most definitely tell you all about.
Enneagram 5 VS Enneagram 4; explaining why 4w5s and 5w4s have very contradictive personalities that even puzzle themselves at times.Â
Type 4 - The IndividualistÂ
Basic Fear: That they have no identity or personal significance
Basic Desire: To find themselves and their significance (to create an identity)
Healthy / Unhealthy Heart Triad:
Pulled off PersonalityCafe. Saw no cited source. (Know it? Tell me.)
Enneagram 2
At their best: radiant altruism, selfless empathy, appreciative nurturing.
Mid-levels: sentiment, intrusive intimacy, sanctimonious vainglory.
At their worst: manipulative blame, coercive hysteria, parasitic victimization.
Healthy 2w1: find their true calling involves helping others grow, often children. They become able to help themselves as wisely and lovingly as they help others. They enjoy watching people find their calling, accepting the delightful differences among us. Sevenish joy from oneâs integration combines with fourish depth and empathy from the integration of two. The result is tolerant, patient celebration of growth and diversity. Advanced 2w1s have deep love and inspired wisdom. They are especially good at helping those who in the most desperate situations. They plunge boldly into terrifying scenes to bring forth glorious hope, love, and healing. Usually it is the least self-sufficient who benefit the most from their endless charity.
Unhealthy 2w1: lose the ability to sense their own needs, and become more likely to speak their negative judgments of others. Their increasing self-criticism usually gets repressed, because the vainglory of the two is more powerful than the oneâs guilt. Their inner conflict is as dangerous and powerful as the 1w2, but less visible because it is heavily repressed by self-deception. When two goes to eight, violence erupts. In the name of love, manipulation turns into physical coercion. Self-deception reaches amazing levels as destructive acts are rationalized into hard love. Fourish guilt is submerged and converted into further denial. I am doing this for your own good, and it hurts me more than it hurts you. In the end, âloving confrontationsâ may generate such hatred and fear in others that they may become the target of violence, as well as the origin.
Healthy 2w3: get beyond the immediate desire to please. Pride and image-consciousness drop away and they experience real, heartfelt love. They no longer need the constant reassurance of someone elseâs admiring gratitude. Two integrates to four, opening up new realms of creative expression, while three goes to six, bringing in a deeper appreciation of the value of belonging to a real community of friends. They become genuine, loving companions. Someone whose generosity is so continuous and so genuine it seems an inseparable part of the personality. Never is there the tiniest hint anything is expected in return â advanced 2w3âs become so good at giving, the recipient never finds out where the help came from (or even that it has happened). Generosity comes through them, not from them.
Unhealthy 2w3: less able to restrain repressed desires. In a misguided attempt to get others to meet their (unspoken) needs, they manufacture more and more imaginary needs to fill for others. Their intrusive, self-satisfied help causes others to move away. 2w3 may hide the resulting loneliness and anger behind an outwardly carefree appearance, but others can see the hypocrisy involved. They may break down under the stress. Suddenly the truth pops out from under the increasingly strained wrappings of self-delusion, and in a desperate effort to paste over the uncomfortable vision, they may fly into an eightish homicidal hysteria or sink into nineish psychotic withdrawal. The repressed feelings of a lifetime might spew out in days or weeks. Relationships that have lasted for years might be discarded like used tissue.
Enneagram 3
At their best: genuine acceptance, poised assurance, motivated confidence.
Mid-levels: competitive diplomacy, efficient expedience, self-promoting narcissism.
At their worst: opportunistic scheming, deceptive sabotage, relentless monomania.
Healthy 3w2: loses the false polish and becomes more real. The vanity of three turns into genuine self-observation, and the seductive pride of two turns into humility. Friendly and personable people whose natural social skills help others feel comfortable. They find a new kind of pleasure at playing without always having to win, although they still choose to be competitive when itâs appropriate. Genuine feelings emerge and are given expression as two integrates to four, while three going to six provides a sense of belonging that builds powerful bonds of friendship. Further 3w2 integration leads to an astonishing ability to generate enthusiastic optimism and self-confidence in others. Usually an expert motivational speaker, often taking advantage of that skill. The uplifting message is delivered with style and power, zooming to the heart of the listener, where the magic of positive thinking can begin. Unhealthy 3w2: become trapped by the vain desire to be admired and attractive. They hide behind their false emotional facade. Trying ever harder to show the emotional states they think others think they should show, they get further out of touch with whatever real emotions they are ignoring. The anger and pushiness from the two-wingâs disintegration to eight combine with the threeâs nineish emotional deadening, for an annoying hostile self-promotion. Eightish anger at the world is the only emotion strong enough to penetrate the cotton wall of nineish deadness. They might commit horrible atrocities in a peculiar, zombielike state. A façade of niceness that covers a veneer of cruelty. See who brought you to ruin! I am the one.
Healthy 3w4: gentle, compassionate, and effective. When three integrates to six and four integrates to one, a new sense of social responsibility combines with the wisdom of emotional equanimity. Effective at accomplishing real-world goals and intuitive good advisers. Quiet self-assurance with deep emotional insight into other peopleâs experiences. Good at spreading confidence and optimism among team members. Wherever they go they leave behind a feeling of deep connection and belonging.
Unhealthy 3w4: hides loss of self-worth behind a veneer of artificial coolness. If the success-orientation of the three becomes too compulsive, and the fourish introspection gets out of hand, 3w4s lose their genuineness. They become less socially adept, and manipulative, as their fourish self-dislike leads to a twoish desire to reinforce self-image by âhelpingâ others. The resulting self-deceptive pride is hidden behind emotional deadening as three pulls in the worst of nine. Such people can be difficult to like, because of the way they constantly remind themselves and others of their accomplishments. Capable of great atrocities just like 3w2, except that due to the greater self-examination of the four-wing, such crimes are more likely isolated cases. Can be self-destructive as all the normal rules of social conduct are abandoned in an attempt to generate attention of any kind from others.
Enneagram 4
At their best: inspired originality, self-aware intuition, subtle humanity
Mid-levels: symbolic drama, withdrawn melancholy, self-indulgent disdain.
At their worst: desolate confusion, guilt-ridden torment, suicidal despair.
Healthy 4w3: finds the peace of equanimity. When four integrates to one and three integrates to six, deep compassionate wisdom is augmented by a feeling of brotherhood and belonging. Reaches a point where comfort is possible without being tormented by a desire others recognize their special uniqueness. Gives sensitive, unselfish understanding to others who are feeling emotional difficulty. Tremendous emotional integrity. Others feel they are being heard, but not judged. An equal and a teacher, a sympathetic listener and a disciplined advisor. Real transformations happen in the lives of those who tell their stories to them. People become powerfully motivated to find real meaning in their lives.
Unhealthy 4w3: swings through wild emotional cycles. As fourish emotionality gets more out of control, bringing in the selfish expectations of special treatment of the unhealthy two, the three-wingâs nineish tendencies cause a split within the psyche. The more intensely the dramatized pseudo-emotions are felt, the less in touch the 4w3 becomes with the real, honest feelings underneath. The dramatic emotions become more and more staged and false. In the unhealthy extreme, there is little actual contact with real feelings, despite the possibly awe-inspiring intensity of outward expression. All the theatrical emotionality is a fearful cover for an inner emptiness that will not go away. Extremely unHealthy 4w3 has become so attached to the outward expression of the false emotions that the real feelings are overwhelmed and drowned out. The conviction of being hopelessly flawed may lead to desperate attempts to end it all in some dramatic, attention-grabbing way.
Healthy 4w5: lightens up. The five-wingâs integration to eight adds solidity and strength, while the integration of four to one provides clear judgment and rationality. Begin to escape from the obsessive, dark, inner view, looking more outward into the world. There they find new connections with others, to their surprise. They discover they have been loving people all along, although they may not have known it. The realization love has been present all along strengthens into an unquenchable thirst for deeper inner connections with an inner source of meaning. These connections are strengthened by loving compassion for other humans. A gentle, strong, deeply passionate teacher. Keen observations of the subtle states of others provide a miraculous ability to elicit powerful, transforming feelings.
Unhealthy 4w5: can move into the extreme withdrawal of depression, then into dark impulsiveness. Deeply troubled by feelings of utter worthlessness and extreme isolation, may look for opportunities to perform degrading, menial tasks, rationalizing that they deserve such a fate. Servility and self-abasement provide a kind of barely-adequate, temporary relief from the constant torment of self-hatred. As life becomes less tolerable, suicide becomes increasingly likely, and may be done in a gruesome way. Extremely dark, horrifying inner imaginings are welcomed and encouraged. The whole world, both inner and outer, is seen as grotesquely diseased and utterly without redeeming qualities. 4w5 Hell is a place of unimaginable ugliness, populated by those deformed, psychotic monsters, the human race. Revels in hopelessness and despair.
Just listen
âWhy does everything have to have some deep meaning to you?â Because everything does have a deep meaning to me. A tattoo can tell you whatâs important to someone, and someoneâs favorite song can tell you their deepest thoughts. The shape of a chair reflects the shape of the crafter, and the design of a mans fan says more than you think. âI didnât choose my fan for any particular reasonâ. Well, that says a lot about you too. The way the trees waiver in the wind says a lot about our world, and the way you stare off in the distance says a lot about your world. Everything has meaning, everything says something, itâs just a matter of whether or not youâre listening.
Edit: can you guys stop fucking reblogging this? You can do one more so it reaches 1000 but this is one of the least favorite poems Iâve written and Iâm getting really salty about this shit Edit 2: godamnit this doesnât retroactively edit it for every repost fuck it was gonna be a dank meme lmao
Memeing the Enneagram Neuroses
Shame/Image-Projection Triad
In the shame-anxiety triad, 2 and 4 are characterized by the different ways they lean from the objective vanity of 3 â 2, toward others in order to receive love (denying that there is anything bad about themselves or reframing their flaws through the vice of pride), and 4, toward themselves and what they perceive to lack, honing in on their flaws with an envious melancholy â both leaning from the external/objective ambitions that characterize the 3âs more object-oriented vanity and diffused sense of self.
- 2 feels shameful if they arenât perceived as loving, helping, and validating, receiving love/validation/flattery by loving/validating/flattering, doing favors with a âreturn on investmentâ mindset
- 3 feels shameful if they arenât perceived as âthe best,â placating insecurity about the self with objective achievements/measures of success or vain standards of beauty
-Â 4 feels shameful if they arenât perceived as unique, special, or talented in some way, romanticizing what sets them apart while feeling spiteful at others
Fear/Overthinking Triad
In the fear-anxiety triad, 5 and 7 are similarly characterized by the ways they lean from the fear of 6 â 5, toward the inner depths of mind because they fear the unknown, and 7 toward the breadth of external possibility because they fear being deprived of potential joy. 6 is caught in the pseudo-paranoid landscape between the fear of not knowing something well enough and not knowing enough experience.
- 5 obsesses about details because they fear being overwhelmed by them (âthe devil is in the detailsâ)
-Â 6 fears the experience of fear and applies this pre-anxiety about anxiety to reality by relying on existing systems (or building new ones) for supportÂ
-Â 7 fears being deprived of basic joy, seeking objective distraction to avoid confronting the turbulent reality of their own minds
Anger/Instinctual Triad
In the anger-anxiety triad, 8 readily expresses their anger, reveling in confrontation, experiencing anger as passion and remaining confrontation-ready, the antithetical realist to 1âČs idealism. 1 tries to control the expression of their anger, channeling it into perfectionism and an over-attachment toward the most correct way to conduct oneself. Both of these expressions lean away from the denial of anger as valid, the over-attachment to calm and repression of anger that characterizes the 9.
-Â 8 is angry if you try to control them
-Â 9 is angry if you disturb their peace of mind (and the number one thing that disturbs it is their own anger so they repress it)
-Â 1 is angry because youâre doing everything wrong
The Basic Bitch/Normie Triangle
- 3s are most out of touch with confidence in their own feelings (center of feeling/shame triad).
- 6s are most out of touch with confidence in their own minds (center of thinking/fear triad).
- 9s are most out of touch with confidence in their own instincts (center of instinctual/anger triad).

4.     Example
My friend is a 3w4 7w8 1w2 sx/sp
His core desires go:
Success>specialness>stimulation>perfection>autonomy>love
His core fears go:
Failure>normalcy>entrapment>unworthiness>enslavement>abandonment
His 3 is attractiveness focused with a side of work focus.
His 7 is fresh experience focused with a side of lifestyle focus.
His 1 is zeal focused with a side of self-criticism focus.
5.     Making the connections
This is a more intuitive (not iNtuitive) process. Make the connections from the basic core fear and desire (example: the core fear of failure feeds into all these other fears as a root cause and all these other fears in combination feed these behaviors)
Look at how the single core fear plays into every other behavior at play and every other fear at play. Flavor each attitude and behavior and fear based on every other factor.
And in conclusion, you have your type evaluated. Congratulations. Go forth into the world in full glory.
Enneagram 4: The Romantic

Enneagram Wings
4w3: want to be both unique and the best at everything they do, and channel their energy into competitiveness. 3 makes them more aware than other 4âs of the need to dial back their emotions and eccentricities to be more socially acceptable. Prone toward extroversion, melodrama (and theatrics), mood swings, and toward making their dreams a reality.
4w5: are more introverted and unconventional than the 4w3, highly concerned with their uniqueness but less interested in being noticed. They are quietly different and often eccentric, seek more solitude, and find it easier to allow their emotions to happen without acting on them, or talking about them.
Under stress: Fours act like unhealthy Twos, by repressing their own needs and becoming dependent on others, craving attention, requiring tons of reassurance and affirmation from loved ones. They are prone to intense jealousy.
When feeling secure: Fours move to the positive side of One, where they cease discussion of their creative ideas and pursue self-discipline so as to actualize them. They are more aware of present concerns, centered, and calm. Their relationships improve since they have learned not to act on or discuss every emotion.
Advice for the 4: be careful not to drown in self-absorption, or think you are the only person who experiences extreme pain. Do not instigate drama when your emotions feel boring to you. Focus on and express love for whatâs unique in your loved ones, rather than focusing on their negative traits. Remember, you do not have to be enslaved to your feelings of shame and inferiority. Never give up on yourself! Rather than wallowing in your suffering, figure out the cause and try to heal it. Do not compare yourself negatively to other people. Stop fantasizing about the âidealâ and work hard for what is possible. Do not look into the past; it has nothing new to tell you. Do not exaggerate or drown in your feelings; they can change.
Influences on MBTI Types:
ISTJ: more unconventional, rebellious, and emotional than other ISTJs; may experience a daily struggle between Te-objectivity and Fi intensity, but also more able to see through their artistic / creative endeavors to completion, may withdraw from / ignore others who have hurt them or failed to see âtheir true self.â 4 may enhance inferior Ne development, and manifest it in creative ways to seem unique (different tastes, interests, or ideas from other people, and the ISTJ taking pride in these things).
ESTJ: may struggle to find the right pursuit, since too many things that come easily to ESTJs may seem too mundane and/or ordinary, but has strong tert-Ne creativity, and puts their heart and soul into their projects; 4 stokes inferior Fi fears about relationship failures, not knowing how to connect to others, and may make them more dramatic / childish when young, when dealing with others who cannot accept them for themselves.
ISFJ: an extremely creative and emotional ISFJ, who favors strong inferior Ne development (but also fears their Ne isnât as âgoodâ as a high Ne user / their ideas are not smart / unique / eccentric enough); will often compare to others through Fe, and may try to make others acknowledge their uniqueness as a form of self-assurance; 4 + Fe means this ISFJ is much more open about their feelings and in discussing them as things happen, and fearful they will not be loved for themselves. May mistype as and relate to a Fi-dom (due to emphasis on âauthenticityâ).
ESFJ: intense emotions that run their lives, and spill onto others in the immediate area, prone to over-reacting and feeling isolated; the desire to connect to others but also remain different from them; may believe there is something âwrongâ with them. Inferior Ti makes them reluctant to step away from, or admit their emotions may be too intense for the situation. Often prides themselves on being an âartistâ and going against the grain; may involve themselves in various good causes, and then drop them when they become âtoo mainstream.â
INTJ: far more emotional and aware of their internal deep melancholy than other INTJs; prone to Ni/Fi loops in that they want to experience each exquisite drop of their pain, and extrapolate some higher meaning from it; may set unrealistic romantic expectations, and place much emphasis on their artistic pursuits, be more easily hurt than they care to admit, and feel isolated from peers while not wanting to fit in.
ENTJ: may struggle to find the right pursuit and want to craft the ideal âvisionâ (sometimes unrealistic) to pursue; places much emphasis on their unique approach to problem-solving and has the soul of an artist; 4 stokes inferior Fi fears about relationship failures, not knowing how to connect to others, and may make them more dramatic / childish when young, when dealing with others who cannot accept them for themselves.
INFJ: often mistype as INFPs due to intense emphasis on individuality, but may fail to realize their comparison method is through Fe; more independent and less inclined to connect to or mirror others, because this feels inauthentic and insincere; 4 places intense emphasis on Ni-dom creativity which might stoke inferior Se problems of inertia (dreaming of the âperfectâ relationship/project rather than starting it); 4 + Fe means this INFJ is much more open about their feelings and in discussing them as things happen, and fearful they will not be loved for themselves.
ENFJ: charismatic and eccentric, may be a natural trend-setter⊠and annoyed by it, prone to a melancholic view of the world, with much emphasis on their NiSe sense of fashion, design, taste, or ideas; the desire to connect to others but also remain different from them; may believe there is something âwrongâ with them. Inferior Ti makes them reluctant to step away from, or admit their emotions may be too intense for the situation.
ESTP: May seek out expensive or bold items designed to make them stand out, prone to Se/Fe loops and intense feelings not entirely understood by the ESTP (since they tend to analyze emotion and struggle to understand or feel comfortable with it); it may cause them to see no real need to improve Fe, since doing so would make them too âcommonâ but also have frequent emotional outbursts and tantrums. Prone to flattery and charm, then abandonment of people whenever their fears of intimacy arise.
ISTP: a more creative, melancholic, and emotional ISTP, usually more interested in creative pursuits (art, music, dance, etc) than in mechanics or computers, sensitive about their performance, and somewhat proud of being different from their peers. Less hurt by criticism, more inclined to outbursts.
ESFP: will express a dramatic sense of self through fashion and/or sensory hobbies and pursuits, with Fi working with 4 to exaggerate a sense of uniqueness / being true to oneself; due to extroversion, wants to be noticed and appreciated but also feels different from other people, and may drive them away with intense emotional outbursts (Te being prone to bluntness). Good at finishing their creative projects (tert Te) but may be more idealistic with inferior Ni than is usual for ESFPs.
ISFP: sensitive, passionate, emotional (though they may not say it, they will act on it) and with a sense of never belonging; often drawn to other creative / unique people (called âweirdâ by society); usually channels their creativity into art, dance, music, etc., as a method of self-expression. Prone to intense, melancholic Ni loops, where they fixate on a dark vision for the future.
ENTP: has eccentric or eclectic tastes, wants their pursuits to be unique from everyone elseâs ideas and stand out for their sheer creativity; more emotional and sensitive to criticisms than other ENTPs, which will soften their response to others, but also cause intense melodramatic outbursts; 4 stokes inferior Si-related fears of being too mundane / unoriginal.
INTP: eccentric and eclectic in their taste, but may place their greatest âdifferenceâ from people in their Ti-dom analytical skills; will be more emotional and artistic-inclined than other INTPs, more sensitive to how others respond to their ideas (inferior Fe) and prone to outbursts, which later make them feel awkward / embarrassed. Often dwells on past mistakes and worries about not being unique enough in their ideas.
ENFP: more sensitive, melodramatic, and melancholy than other ENFPs, but also more driven to implement their idealizations into reality through tert-Te; often dramatic and attention-seeking, receives a thrill from being âdifferentâ and will go out of their way to be different; has more trouble with inferior Si, in that the ENFP-4 who falls into the grip may become HIGHLY depressed / full of guilt and shame over past mistakes and relationship failures; prone to self-doubt and an intense need to have all their ideas and projects be unique from their peers. Only happy when able to express emotions through their art, often hot-tempered and prone to blasting people with Te.
INFP: melodramatic, easily insulted, and highly individual, the 4 enhances all the natural traits of the INFP to hyper-levels: intense, melodramatic emotions (and more openness in expressing them than other INFPs), high levels of creativity (and extreme sensitivity toward criticism of their hobbies, crafts, writing, costuming, taste in books, etc), a tendency to wax melancholic about the past and fixate on former mistakes, and idealize (while inferior Te struggles to keep momentum going in any project that does not âemotionally resonateâ with Fi).
