i'm not normal about any spider-verse stuff and i'm making it yo
@enough-spider-noir-stuff
Biscuit, it/its, fae/faer, or any neos really. Fanfic writer when the obsession hits, occasional visial art for funsies, all-time weirdo.
I have a miiiinor (<- lie) interest in the spidey noir comics, specifically Pete and Jean DeWolfe, Hobie, and Karn. Yeah ik at least two of em are Very niche. Please talk to me
Fuck it, new pinned post bc the other one's a mess and I'm too lazy to go into blog settings and fix whatever that description is.
So, hi! My name is Biscuit. My main's over @imabiscuitinthousandworlds and sometimes I still mess up my blogs. Pronouns it/void/neon or any neopronouns, really
This blog is for all things spider-man. Which mostly means Spidey Noir and Hobie, in my case. Also Jean DeWolfe (not a typo) and Karn. I love them, okay. I am So Normal about them. Sometimes I go spam reblogging because I am so damn normal. (<- lying, i'm obsessed)
A tiny bit of self-advertising; I post a lot on my AO3.
Currently mainly working and also posting about a couple fic series:
What's Black Is White, What's True Is False (on here #wbiwwtif)
(Based very closely on the Noir comic run)
Whether as Bugle reporter Peter Parker or as the Spider, he keeps running into FBI agent Jean DeWolfe. DeWolfe did save his life without unmasking him, so maybe... that counts for something.
Unfortunately, if you spend enough time around someone, you're bound to develop some sort of relationship. (They'd insist it's one of hatred but they're repressed af)
What's Black Is White; Assorted Fics (also falls under #wbiwwtif)
Basically the same as above, except I collect the random one shots within that AU here.
When Multiverses Meet (on here #wmm / #when multiverses meet au)
(ATSV/Spider-verse comics crossover)
When an alternate Miguel and Hobie come barging in and fighting with the Spider Society's leader, ATSV!Hobie makes a spontaneous decision and follows them. And suddenly he's part of another interdimensional group of spiders, who seem a little more normal about rules, and has to keep them separate. It's only a question of time before things go tits-up.
Also, especially with two Hobies around, there's so many shenanigans.
Feel free to just talk to me. I don't bite (well, mostly) and I wanna talk about them so bad. Just spider-verse in general or my blorbos or my fics I don't care :))))
Also. If you're gonna be rude or act like an asshole I just block. Don't think I'm big enough for that tho lol
the most essential part of a fandom are those people who immediately tell you to write it, draw it, make it when you share your ideas, you have no idea how many fanworks are born just because someone encouraged it

I find it really surprising that Benjamin (2009 spider noir) can just . Kill people. It makes sense in a weird way, though. He’s an angry kid, and this world is violent, so he’s accidentally fighting fire with fire because he finally had the autonomy to fight against the oppressors in a way he never was before.
I think I saw it as him never really truly understanding why aunt may fought against Osborn and his men in THAT way. He didn’t seem to understand that if he just angrily beat up people, it was just perpetuating the cycle of violence…
(I’m not. 100% finished with the comic. I think I somehow got multiple books in one. But. That is why this might not be 100%)
you got the complete collection so it has the original series, eyes without a face, concept art/behind the scenes, and 2 spiderverse comics!
but to your ask- I love it too. i think its one of the reasons a lot of people love him. he's just so angry and does what he thinks is right. he didn't kill Osborne because he felt bad about what aunt may said. he still believes these people should die (in my opinion anyway, considering he goes right back to killing in EWAF and doesnt interfere in helping Osborne when he was getting attacked).
its so hard to understand that even people you don't like deserve equal treatment, especially when they're the epitome of evil on your eyes. its something not enough people believe in, and a concerning amount of those people are CJ majors but I digress. even though Uncle Ben himself believed that harming others is wrong, peter chose to cherrypick the messages Ben and May were trying to spread. to him, he's a one man army. and by the end of that comic that belief hasn't changed. in fact, none of his beliefs really changed, but just got fueled. "in the end, when all is said and done, the good guys always win"
me and @imabiscuitinthousandworlds discussed two pages depicting the cycle of violence and identity in this post!
💬 0 🔁 12 ❤️ 15 · Absolutely. Like, Peter starting out with the black-and-white thinking absolutely makes sense. I mean, you don't want to
anddddd because I have to....
this is something I continued in my au. its such a key part of his character: the anger, the impulsivity, the need to take control, and him being the judge juror and executioner. sure you can write it off as him being young, but its a fundamental part of his character to me. he doesnt realize the harm he's bringing because he's only thinking of here and now. anddd i try my best to keep him in-character because I hate when things are ooc
I know asks are on hold but since you asked me about my thoughts on the comics.
something I noticed immediately was that he always holds his hands in front of him in this certain way like he’s shaking his fists. I might be going crazy
(Ignore the glare my camera hated me)
I haven't noticed that!!! the details in the art drive me absolutely insane. there's just so many things to find
... and in the end, when all's said and done... good guys always win.
And this fucking thing is finished!! Shout out to @reallysaneguy for the continuous motivation so that it. actually got that far!
Because I did try to do some things with the lyrics, those and my (perhaps a bit wonky but probably not incorrect) translation below the cut :)

Marie douceur c'est ainsi que tu me surnommes
Tu crois bien sûr me connaître mieux que personne
Marie colère existe aussi fais bien attention
Je te l'ai déjà dit cent mille fois sur tous les tons
Sweet Marie is the name you give me
You think for sure that you know me better than anyone else
Angry Marie existes as well, watch out
I've already told you that a thousand times
[2]
Marie douceur a beaucoup beaucoup de patience
Oui mais un jour tu verras entrer dans la danse
Marie colère avec des éclairs dans les yeux
Je sais lequel aura le plus peur de nous deux
Sweet Marie has lots and lots of patience
Still, one day you will join the dance
Angry Marie with lightning in her eyes
I know which of the two is more afraid
[3]
Marie douceur est avec toi bien trop gentille
Si tu persistes à regarder les autres filles
Marie colère ne sera plus du tout d'accord
Et sautera sur toi toutes griffes dehors
Sweet Marie is very friendly with you
If you keep looking at other girls
Angry Marie will stop being alright with everything
And will show you her claws
[4]
Marie douceur aime bien chanter des ballades
Mais ne t'y fies pas trop un bon conseil prends garde
Marie colère adore les éclats de voix
Alors choisis entre les autres filles et moi
Sweet Marie enjoys singing ballads
But don't trust too much; some good advice: be careful
Angry Marie loves raised voices
So choose between the other girls and me

Marie douceur c'est ainsi que tu me surnommes
Tu crois bien sûr me connaître mieux que personne
Marie colère est maintenant là devant toi
Marie douceur n'est plus qu'un souvenir déjà
Sweet Marie is the name you give me
You think for sure that you know me better than anyone else
Angry Marie is in front of you now
Sweet Marie is nothing but a memory again
Apparently people can't reblog (sad) and also nobody asked but anyway I'm bringing this back because I want to talk about what I did and you get to deal with it <3 my house n all that
Something I really like about Marie Laforêt's cover is that she paints this picture of two sides to one person. Sweet Marie, who is gentle and will nod along and smile and be friendly, and angry Marie, who isn't going to put up with just anything any longer, who will fight - who eventually takes over.
It's so Peter-coded. Peter Parker, who is so so angry but still a teenager who is politically active and has ideals and demands for the world to be better. And Spider-Man, who is putting himself above the law (and okay, fuck the law but) also above all judgement, who will kill those who wrong others. Who is so, so angry and dangerous. And that anger, the kind that kills, the kind that will seek revenge (perhaps even more so than to build something not ideal but slightly better?) - that eventually takes over Peter as well, even as he hides this part of his identity.
I tried to sort of integrate that; aside from the beats between lines, I mostly tried to use pictures of Peter for the Marie douceur lines and pictures of the Spider for Marie colère. I didn't quite succeed, but I did also try to mix that up more towards the end, when the difference is beginning to blur.
"Marie douceur n'est plus qu'un souvenir déjà." That line, when Marie douceur is mentioned again but as being essentially gone. That image of Peter without the mask but holding a gun. (In comic context, threatening the Goblin, who tells him that he has enough hatred.) Even Peter Parker hates, will hold a gun, even without the mask, even without that tiny bit of keeping them separate identities. Marie douceur n'est plus qu'un souvenir.
For both times the line "Marie douceur c'est ainsi que tu me surnommes / Tu crois bien sûr me connaître mieux que personne" I tried to find images of Peter and Aunt May, or even just May, because.... if there's someone who really believes to know Peter better than anyone else, isn't that her? If there's someone who doesn't actually know all of him, especially his darker side, isn't that her?
That is extra fun of course with the (I think) rather obvious pairing of "Marie colère est maintenant la dévant toi" and May facing the Spider after he just shot an unarmed man who was going to cannibalise her alive. She may not connect them, but she has faced both sides of Peter - and the Spider had to deal with her judgement, standing before her, openly showing even her just how far he's willing to go.
I tried to work vaguely along the actual timeline (other than in writing this), and not just because that made it easier to scroll through those comics again and again to take screenshots. Just like Marie colère becomes a more and more prominent figure in the song, Peter changes more and more the longer he also takes on the identity of Spider-Man.
"Oui mais un jour tu verras entrer dans la danse." It's not entirely unlike a dance, the way New York works; knowing who works for who, how money changes hands, who holds the power. And the moment Peter really, truly steps over that threshold and becomes entangled in that web of relations and power and fear, is when Ben Urich dies. When the person who looked after him, who was keeping him safe, can no longer do that. And no longer keep him in check or teach him anger management (or useful redirection of that anger) anymore.
The "éclairs dans les yeux" are relatively self-explanatory I think. I love how the comics often substitute Peter's glasses (or lenses) for an actual face. And Peter, Felicia's and May's eyes were too easy to pair together, all burning with some sort of passion that's so alike and so different. And then, of course, the eyes again, and the event that still haunts and drives Peter. (But this bit was mostly just visual ngl.)
"Marie douceur est avec toi bien trop gentille." This, of course, had to be Robbie. Together with Robbie are some of the only times we see Peter smile and actually act relaxed, ever.
"Si tu persistes à regarder les autres filles" - okay for the weird jealous girlfriend bit I had to use Felicia. Of course it's not like that at all. I've actually begun revising my view of those scenes - that relationship is unfitting and terrible and should never have happened, but that's what makes it so compelling, that may just be the point. And Peter does feel protective of her especially. And she does fall victim to some other bastard's jealousy.
And then, one of the first times in the comics when things get really, hands-on violent and bloody and fairly gorey. Marie colère sautera sur toi toutes griffes dehors. That last line especially, though, also paired with that moment when the Spider is so, so obviously being powerful, using that power, being intimidating, threatening. No matter how much of a greaseball that guy is, especially when taking that panel out of context, it's hard to view the Spider as a good guy here.
Ballads, of course, tend to make me think of mourning, and the gentleness of that stanza immediately has me think of before. Before the Spider existed. Before Peter got violent. Before Uncle Ben was murdered. But that's the past. And if you look, Peter and the Spider aren't that different after all. It's still just a mask that's the main difference. (The last 'jealous lover' lyric of course goes to Felicia again, who has just been severely injured by a jealous lover. She deserved better ngl.)
Annnnd. I talked about the last stanza already. It's all a progression. It all escalated. But between the somewhat semi-ordered images I paired with the lyrics, during the beats between lines, there was a lot of different images. All of them are violent in some way. While at least the graphically depicted violence that happens on screen escalated, while the violence Peter is willing enact escalates, it has still always been there. Violence is woven throughout this story, that city and this video like a red string. It's always there.
And, at the very end, it's all that really remains. Violence, and the Spiderman - which, at some point, may not be much of a difference at all.
As for the very end, the only comic writing I included....... I found that at the end of the og comics. I couldn't resist. Especially for this comic series, that's such a wonderfully ironic view. I don't think I need to say anything here, I'm just very happy I put that there. If anyone reads this far you can interpret that bit yourself.
I also need you to please appreciate the fact that for some of the panels, I had to paint over text bubbles or parts of them to get the shots I wanted and it's not obvious. Can I hear a wahoo
... and in the end, when all's said and done... good guys always win.
And this fucking thing is finished!! Shout out to @reallysaneguy for the continuous motivation so that it. actually got that far!
