Here's a question for my fellow Yuki Maeda enjoyers... I know you're out there, we are few but mighty /silly
What labels do you use for them? DRA1 Yuki Maeda and SDRA2 Yuki Maeda can be a bit long to type over and over, (coughs in this post.. I'll do it here for clarity though) and though using the correct game title for each of them respectively works fine for tagging, I think it'd be fun if there were more of them being used or if it caught on more to differentiate them.
I know there's a lot of people in the fandom who see them as interchangeable or even the same character, so for those folks it may seem silly even to ask this kinda question but this is the hill I will die on okay /silly
And no I can't unpack all of that or this post would triple in length, and it is long enough already.

When it comes to nicknames and actual names the possibilities are pretty much endless. I like giving DRA1 Maeda the nicknames, since he's the one whose name is stolen, after all.
Some of the ones I've seen and/or used are Yuko and Yu (it's kinda neat that they have some phonetic overlap with Utsuro, with an O being added or having a name that sounds like the first letter of Utsuro's name.) I've never seen anyone use it, but there's also Yuku and Yukuto, both of which can be written with 空 which is neat. But I'm sure there's more of them out there.
I'm also a big fan personally of having DRA1 Yuki drop the last name Maeda, with the idea being that he'd not want to keep using a stolen name after realizing it wasn't his. Then he can go by just Yuki, or use a surname that belongs to Utsuro. My go to rn is Yoshida 吉田 - 吉 yoshi meaning good luck and 田 ta meaning field, rice paddy (just like in Maeda's name)
It's fun coming up with names like this. Don't ask me about Utsuro's real name (or dead name) or I will ramble forever about the options I've come up with in the past. (Just kidding, you can, but be warned /silly)
As for tags and labels for sorting them right on places like AO3 and Tumblr... Here's a few I've used or come across:
danmaeda & sumaeda (from Danganronpa and Super Danganronpa, this is one I started using after seeing someone use them on postype)
Yuki & Maeda (Only using Maeda to refer to the SDRA2 since the last name really only belongs to him) (I fear this one is also a little confusing though, cause given the localization differences between the two games, iirc SDRA2 Maeda is referred to as Yuki much more often and DRA1 Yuki is mostly called Maeda...)
Maeda Yuki (Danganronpa Another) & Maeda Yuki (Super Danganronpa Another 2) (Sadly these tags both go into "Maeda Yuki (Danganronpa Another)" on AO3, so sadly you can't sort for either character alone.. this kinda thing makes perfect sense in most cases. (ex. The same character appearing in multiple titles in the series) But I still really wish they had actual separate tags so you could search for fics with that specific Yuki and differentiate the ships as well... But! You can at least indicate to readers before they click if your fic has one or the other or both, which I try to do)
When it comes to Tumblr, there's several different combinations of the names and games you can go with that have been used before and it's kinda a lot lol.
I guess you can also go 'Yuki 1' and 'Yuki 2' (or Maeda) or call one fake and one real... The former is kinda silly like they're just clones of each other, and the latter makes me feel sad for dra1 Yuki... He's a real boy don't bully him /j /j
There's also Yuki 2ki...

If anyone has thoughts or other options I've not listed or forgotten I'd be curious to hear.
I started using the Yuki 2ki tag (originally just #yuki 2ki yes repeating the Yuki twice lol it's a bit silly) a long time ago, and since I've seen at least one or two other people use it now surprisingly, I should probably explain it lol. It wasn't the best label I admit lol.
This one was inspired after the naming convention between another rpgmaker game, Yume Nikki, and a fangame called Yume 2kki.
Honestly, I may have been on to nothing from the start since the whole point of that title was the pun (2 is pronounced 'ni' in Japanese)
The issue is I decided it made sense to use this for DRA1 Yuki... my thinking was, he's not the original, and this makes it seem like he's the duplicate, while SDRA2 Yuki is left alone. But well, the '2' really implies 'SDRA2,' doesn't it... And the whole 2 pun thing was used for the sequel game to Yume Nikki, so...
I've had heard from at least one person that they thought it was for sdra2 Yuki lmao, and like... Yeah, that'd make more sense, wouldn't it..
Maybe yuk1 or 1ki and 2ki would be fun? Eh...
One of these days I'll have to swap the tags on my posts so 2ki is for sdra2 Yuki instead.

Art has felt like squeezing water from a stone lately, and that feeling persisted for most of this piece... It subsided at the very end and I started liking it and enjoying myself more so hopefully a little bit of strong arming was the solution this time and I've unstuck myself lol
Hey. Your brain needs to de-frag. Literally it needs you to sit there and space out.
If you want your memory or executive function to improve, stare out a window at the skyline or sidewalk or trees or birds on the electrical wires for like 20+ minutes per day. (With no other stimulation like a podcast or TV if you can manage but hey baby steps innit). If you're fortunate enough to have safe outside with any bits of nature, go stare closely at a 1 meter square of grass and trip out on the bugs and shapes of grasses and stuff.
Literally this will make you smarter. Our brains HAVE TO HAVE this zone out time to do important stuff behind the scenes. This does not happen during sleep, it's something else.
That weird pressurized feeling you get sometimes might be your brain on no defrag.
This is a difficult thing to do at times, especially if you're audhd like me, but so important. It's hard when I often can't focus without some level of stimulation or background noise, but also am so easily overstimulated... But it's all the more important when you're chronically ill as well.
Also, from a creativity standpoint, taking things in is important for inspiration, but if you want to be able to come up with ideas, the empty space is crucial. It's like a blank canvas or an empty page. If you slow down and let the silence happen sometimes, things come to you in that space.
It's a pretty common experience to have ideas come to you in the shower or just before falling asleep, right? It's the same principle.
Some of my best ideas have come during walks or periods of silence... you need to stop the noise sometimes so you can think. Even just a little bit here and there or some mindfulness when you can makes a difference.
Doing nothing is Normal and Important. Only that lack of stimulation has the ability to be this recharging because it's actual and complete rest. Not doom scrolling, not music or videos playing or conversation, not playing or cleaning or doing something productive... (though most of those things are valuable too) Literally doing nothing. You are not built to be doing things at all times. It is okay to not be productive at all times. It is okay to not fill every moment with entertainment or creativity or socializing. Resting is part of your job too.

Revisited this moment today and it really just has the same vibe as that one meme...
This kind of reaction is just one of many reasons I can't take the idea that the two Maedas are interchangeable seriously lol.
Like look me straight in the eye and tell me sumaeda wouldn't also be cying and/or throwing up in the bathroom right now. In what world would that Maeda ever stand here a few feet away from Kiyoka's dead body just after they've found her and tell Teruya to stop whining.
Obviously like, yeah, logically, it is in Teruya's best interest to find some way to go forward, and in danmaeda's defense, he does start this interaction by asking Teruya if he's okay, (and when he comes back later he makes Teruya feel a bit better while talking about the antique store stuff) but like... the way he says it lol... it kills me. Like dra1 yuki does scream and shout and does feel fear and grief for sure, but he also has cowards/cowardice as a dislike... Plus, he sometimes has an overly harsh or judgemental reaction to someone showing a very normal emotional response to the situation for a teenager to have lol. (And he seemingly struggles to fully empathize with the very anxious and homesick Otori during their first ftes) I have my own interpretations on that, and it's fun to build off or imagine the whole divine luck/utsuro of it all influencing things...
I'm sorry, I can't help picturing sumaeda here in this situation, and danmaeda seeing him crying and pulling the same damn thing lmao. (putting the whole same face and name identity crisis of it all aside for this hypothetical scenario lol)
A friend of mine recently pointed out some similarities between DRA1 Teruya and SDRA2 Yuki... and I gotta say, yeah, I see it, especially early on. But honestly, if anything, everyone else still keeping their cool in these two casts after the first murder are the weird ones for just being able to bottle it all up just like that. /hj It's is a pretty normal reaction to being put in this kind of situation I think. It's interesting though, thinking about SDRA2 Otori potentially seeing his past self in Maeda...
Some old abandoned ideas and scraps from the last year or two I'm unlikely to return to. If something catches someone's imagination, it's fine to take it and run with it to write something based on them or something. Note that some of these are pretty old.

Ghost in the Mirror
DRA Yuki resurfaces in the simulation. Stuck in an in-between digital space, he can only be seen by the boy who shares his face.
When Yuki Maeda first sees the ghost, at first, he thinks it's his own reflection.
But when he goes back for a second look, he sees that somehow, his face doesn't look quite right. There's something a little sharper about it, and a handful of tiny freckles over his nose. The eyes are darker, just a little.
He reaches a hand up to the cowlick in his hair. The reflection simply blinks at him.
“You're…Yuki, aren't you…?” The ghost speaks. Yuki glances around, wondering if this is some kind of trick of Mikado’s, or if anyone else heard.
“Can you not…hear me?” The voice goes quieter, at that. It sounds… lonely. Yuki looks back, and sees uncertainty in the ghost’s eyes that wasn't there before.
“I heard you,” Yuki whispers reluctantly at the glass. “Who are you?”
“I’m-” The ghost seems to have an answer, but it dies on his lips. He stares at Yuki, eyes going a bit hollow for a moment. “No, you shouldn't call me that. Nobody should…” Yuki gives him a quizzical look.
“Umm…”
“I guess I don't really…” The ghost looks rather forlorn and lost. Yuki can't help but feel a bit sorry.
“You don't have a name…?” He asks, tentatively.
“I'm not sure…” he looks to the side. “Maybe Utsuro counts?”
Utsuro…like the name of the island? But he doesn't at all seem convinced of his own reasoning.
“Is that…what you want to be called?”
“No…” the ghost admits.
“Hmm.” Yuki peers at the ginger haired specter in front of him. “Well, you could pick a new one, I guess…?”
“I never thought of that.” The ghost says matter-of-factly.
(Honestly this one definitely has the potential for a full fic, but for whatever reason nothing else spun out from it... It'd be interesting seeing dra Yuki see and recognize Teruya in sdra2 but not be able to interact with him or be seen. And of course, him and sdra2 Maeda interacting with sdra2 Kinjo... I imagine maybe over time as the plot progresses other characters could see him more, but it'd just be Maeda for a long time.)
Fairy In a Bottle
(Yuki sneaks into someone's shed and finds a "lucky charm")
“Your wing…” The moment Yuki speaks, the offending wing tucks behind the tiny figure’s body.
“I’m sorry…” He says quietly. The fairy looks up at him, dark eyes showing hardly anything in response to his concern. Behind the glass, orange and black wings flutter softly, shuffling behind his back. However, a sound breaks Yuki’s concentration. Of course, he’s not supposed to be here at all. Stiffening, he quickly stands, and looks over his shoulder. The fairy’s eyes darken slightly at the motion, just as Yuki’s gaze is preoccupied by the window. However, to the little fae’s surprise, he turns around before leaving.
“I’ll be back.” He promises. And he means it. Now that he knows, it’s impossible to turn a blind eye. Tiny, stony eyes follow him as he leaves through the glass, but otherwise, the fairy remains perfectly still.
To Utsuro's surprise, the human actually keeps his promise.
(fun fact: here, he had monarch butterfly wings; in family fables, he has glasswing butterfly wings)
Other Fic Ideas and rough notes:
Reverse Polarity
A fic where Utsuro discovers an unexpected damper to his curse in a way nobody could have predicted. Enter Nagito Komaeda, who is quite confused and somewhat unsettled by the quiet ginger that suddenly appeared in his life and for some reason, won't leave him alone.
Generally the core idea of this one is that concept I've thought about before where Utsuro acts as a lightning rod for Nagito's misfortune..the result is Utsuro experiencing bad luck, or something close to it, while being protected from the worst of it via his own curse. Nagito gets to have someone in his life that won't perish or be seriously harmed by his bad luck cycle, while Utsuro finds a reprieve from divine luck.
This kind of story would allow for:
a scenario where Utsuro goes back on his plans like Akane hoped and no longer wishes to die
lots of unique character interactions in a relatively peaceful scenario during their school days like Utsuro and hanzo, Utsuro and the sdr2 class, etc
(honestly still find the idea of them interacting an interesting thing to explore... Now Nagito has an "admirer" for his talent lol. Also the idea of Utsuro being fascinated with someone is pretty funny too.)
Yuki Time Traveler AU
After reaching the conclusion, Yuki drags Utsuro and himself towards a different path.
Essentially, they start back at the beginning, with all their memories
Then, Yuki tries to prevent each death, often by placing himself where the victim would be
He's going a little crazy rewinding over and over to ‘get it right’ and some (like the ballroom) might not be preventable but he keeps trying and kind of losing his sanity, getting more and more tired
Utsuro doesn't understand why he's doing this, but maybe goes through a bit of an arc watching Yuki go through all this, and Yuki proving stuff to him
Tsurugi would pick up on Yuki knowing things he shouldn't, maybe eventually Yuki trusts him and relies on him in the loops, with Kinjo giving him a message for his past self so he'll believe Yuki when he rewinds and Tsurugi forgets everything.
Tsurugi is a big hazard for this and cause of a lot of restarts because he keeps dying
(I blame hetaoni for this one) (but I'm sure this is not a new idea whatsoever lol)
Undead Kinjo
Basically a version of Kinjo that just keeps coming back like a bad penny
Divine luck keeps him alive, kind of a horror/spook aspect to it since he just survives death over and over
Clawing his way back every time his enemies kill him and everyone just generally being horrified
Unlike Utsuro's spotless survivals, Tsurugi doesn't just have clean near misses with death. It's more like, he should be dead, and appears to be dead, but then he gets up again, even if he's bloody and broken, he gets up.
Supernatural aspect to it. He's kind of like a vengeful ghost now and might be just a little undead
(Ended up writing something with this idea but he's not really zombified, it went in a different direction so this still counts as scrapped)
Dream worlds (???)
Dreams which allow one persons psyche to be accessed by another. The diver will end up taking on the role of the dreamer
Tsurugi
Frozen effects while going through
Figure frozen solid in the center of the dream. (There's another Tsurugi in there who ends up being the antagonist to the diver)
Themes of self harm/sabotage and being stuck repeating the same patterns
Utsuro hair in places

Back at it again with random crossover aus that probably have very little intersection lol! This time dra is getting mashed together with hunter x hunter! I've had insects on the brain lately so it felt right to dust off some old sketches and give this design another look

About Ant!Yuki:
phagogenesis hybrid of ladybug, human, feline, and rabbit
memories from kouhei and aiko maeda (human parts)
ladybug wings and antennae, wings can fold away or smoosh and drape down in a cape-like way similar to Shaiapouf.
rabbit feet (yknow)
cat tail + some fur mixed with hair
Kouhei was a nen user, so he has nen potential too
Loyally follows orders as a drone until one particular hunting mission. After his fellow Ants target one particular human, he steps in and refuses to let them take him, leading to a fight that ends in his exile from the colony and capture by humans.
Chimera ant name: Kikkou, Koki, or Yukoi?
Kouhei & Tsurugi
Early on before the chimera ants completely took over the NGL, Kouhei and Tsurugi were sent into the NGL on an undercover investigation related to the NGL's drug cartel or chasing a criminal who'd fled there.
The details are unclear, but Tsurugi was probably incapacitated or separated from Kouhei after their small team was swarmed by chimera ants. Only two nen users would have been fine if they were just dealing with fairly ordinary human criminals, but the Ants were a completely new and unknown threat that they had no way of countering.
In the end, Kouhei fights to protect two innocent civilians trying to flee the NGL (the Maedas) and is killed by Ants alongside Aiko. After finding remains and/or the bloody evidence of this fight, Tsurugi realizes he is the only survivor. He ends up being forced to leave the NGL alone.
Thanks to the NGL's rejection of modern technology and synthetic materials and strict examinations of anyone who entered, plus the whole thing being a front for Gyro's D2 drug empire, it's not possible for outside investigators to enter normally. Since everyone on the team had to sneak in and the whole thing was secretive, even when the mission when horribly wrong, it was still mostly covered up...
A few months to a year later, when the chimera ant invasion starts to become a severe issue, Tsurugi volunteers himself to return to the NGL as part of a team of nen users investigating the crisis, outwardly saying it's because he is one of the few to have seen the beasts and lived, but also because he's still not over Kouhei's death and has a need to know exactly what happened and how he died.
When Tsurugi Kinjo meets one particular captive Ant who seemingly betrayed orders to protect a human, it becomes clear that he knows things about Tsurugi despite never meeting before. Perhaps the human this ant seemingly saved, Yuki Maeda, might help unravel this mystery… but of course, an Ant is still an Ant, and so must be exterminated, …right?
The Maedas
Yuki Maeda and his mother, Aiko Maeda, ended up in the NGL thanks to Utsuro and Akane. Their kidnapping and abandonment there eventually led to Aiko being killed by the chimera ants. I don't think Utsuro or Akane had any idea the invasion would occur but did put them in the NGL with no means of escape...
Utsuro and Akane may also have later been caught up in this and killed/transformed.
Yuki is fairly freaked out by the chimera ant that's taken an interest in him... after all, he's one of the monsters that killed his mother and have continually attacked himself and the humans he's sheltered with. However, there's something familiar about him that Yuki can't quite shake, and he did risk his own life to save Yuki's...

In other news, I've done some tag organization with my posts... some of my old personal tags have been removed or consolidated, and I think the sorting makes a bit more sense now. If you're curious about that, check out my pinned intro/info post, which has been edited with the new tags + has had a few little additions.
I've been feeling stuck with my fanzine piece, so I've been going for the usual method of swapping back and forth between projects. Making little bits of progress here and there. There's essentially three scenes/panels... One of them I'm really struggling with finding the right sketch for, one I've got the environment laid out pretty well already but has proved difficult to nail the character poses/angles for, and the last one will probably be the simplest to draw perspective and pose wise but will have a ton of details crammed in if I can manage it.
I don't know if I'll be able to do it, but I'd like to toss in some little fragment scenes too inbetween the panels and I laid out some bubbles for those. But that's basically a stretch goal lol. This is an intimidating piece, if I can get the main things I've planned down well, I'll be satisfied.
(...and an excuse to work kinjo in somehow cause I really want him in my piece somehow, since I chose the mekaru/foundation idea over focusing on his solitary suffering idea /silly)
I've been swapping back and forth between projects again... here's a scene from EDP I've had in my drafts for months.
I got a bit experimental with this one; I actually dropped it for a really long time because it was just not turning out the way I wanted, but I picked it up again today and I'm glad I kept going.
What could possibly have caused this rift? And who threw down the gauntlet? (Well, they don't have hands, so pauldron, in this case) (a pony pauldron) (okay I'll shut up now) Anyways, tune in sometime in the next 2 years to read about what happens between Saber and his dad or who wins the duel.

Some werewolf kinjos (well, Tsurugi is half werecat-half-werewolf) from Mika & I's modern fantasy type AU Family, Fables, and Other Make-Believe Things (It's a shared series with a few stories between us so far)
I tried to make him look a bit feline but not too feline...? It was challenging, never done a feline-canine hybrid before and I don't draw canines often at all... Tsurugi's parents are a werecat (white bengal tiger) and a werewolf (silvery big and scary direwolf) uh don't ask me where all the blue came from.
I don't have the brain power atm to do a proper lore dump, but there's a ton of werewolves in the TMPD in this AU thanks to Juu, and the force is kind of built around that aspect nowadays + dealing with "non-human crime." Feel free to ask if you're curious about it, there's details that haven't made it into the stories themselves for sure haha
Apparently drawing a yamagotchi for several hours helps when you feel sad, even if it's definitely not what I planned to do today haha. Doing the details was very zen... I had to stare at a lot of tamagotchi variations and shell types for reference and that was fun too. This one has a clear shell, and was inspired by a couple different ones.
This is how alter ego Kisaragi travels actually... Kinjo keeps him in his pocket when they're away from home. It's just more portable. Trust me this is what'll happen if/when I write that fabled CWBS sequel.
Would you keep him in your pocket if he was a tamagotchi? I think I'd be too worried about letting him die accidentally...
