sometimes, on particularly warm nights, after everyone has started relaxing for the day, medic and engie slip out of base after dinner. they sit outside on some crates, their uniforms reduced to button up shirts, pants, boots, and belts. most of the time engie has an arnold palmer in hand, medic an earl grey with honey and milk.

they watch the sun set and the stars come out and they talk. they talk for hours and hours and hours, about anything and everything they want. occasionally they take breaks, taking a moment to look at the stars and enjoy each others company.

the silence isn't uncomfortable, if anything it's welcome, considering the hectic lives they live. they can never stay still for too long though, the both of them, and they're back to talking about whatever comes to mind.

medic always has an ear out, just in case scout and pyro someone gets up to something stupid. but he's content. he's happy. he's babbling and giggling like there's no tomorrow, just glad that he has someone to love that still loves him like this, a crass, tired, prattling mess.

engie is also on alert but a little less so. he understands their roles as team parents now, even if both he and medic still have a good laugh about it once in a while. he listens and he babbles back, always smiling like an idiot if he manages a joke that makes medic laugh so hard his face is conpletely flushed.

it's nights like these they cherish. nights like these they crave. because at the end of the day, they're just two mad scientists who just can't get enough of each other. and they really wouldn't have it any other way.

man all those posts that are like "chore incompetence from ur partner is just a manipulation tactic" sure hit differently when you got a spouse with adhd who literally cannot be aware of the fact that there's garbage on the couch

I fully agree with this but also as an ADHDer I have some advice for other ADHDers who want to live harmoniously with partners/ friends.

Once someone makes you aware of an issue, take steps to try and make it better in the moment but also long-term. Putting the emotional labour on your partner to tell you to do things kinda sucks. For example, here's my list of things I try to do every day to help avoid that too much with my flatmate.

Before I go to bed:

- I straighten couch cushions because my flatmate likes this and it's not that hard

- I check the apartment for miscilaneous glasses/bowls and wash them

- I put any clutter on the main table away

Before I go to work:

- I check the bins and if something needs taking out, I take it out

- I check all the doors etc are locked and I have my keys

Unlike neurotypicals we can't trust that we will notice when something needs doing because trash-blindness is totally a thing (another post for another day). It is still on us, not our partners, to find ways around this though. Building checking-for-specific-trash/clutter into your routine can really help. You can set alarms if you need to. Also occasionally ask if there is any tasks you could be doing that would make living together better.

Finally, don't be hard on yourself if you forget sometimes - it legit IS difficult to do some "simple" things because our brains work differently, and that's not silly. The important thing is that we keep trying.
