tired of cannibalism as a metaphor for love or sex. can we get into cannibalism as a metaphor for colonization.
1. Europeans using Egyptian mummies as medicine
2. The Delectable Negro: Human Consumption and Homoeroticism Within US Slave Culture by Vincent Woodard
3. "Abolitionists turned the tables on Europeans by accusing them of being cannibals when they ate sugar tainted with the flesh and blood of slaves."
4. Zombies (which I would class as cannibals, since they were human and need to eat humans to live) have a root in Haitian folklore and represented enslavement.
Never forget that the word “cannibal,” is derived from Christopher Columbus’ name for the indigenous people of the Caribbean.
If you want to do more reading on the history of cannibalism and how the stigma surrounding it is rooted in colonizer rhetoric meant to push for the genocide of black and indigenous people:
5. “Carib ‘Cannibalism’: A Study in Anthropological Stereotyping,” Richard B. Moore
6. “A History of Cannibalism,” by Nathan Constantine
7. “Unspeakable Rites: Cultural Reticence and the Cannibal Question,” Claude Rawson
8. “Review: The Man Eating Myth,” Ivan Brady
9. “Assessing the Calorific Significance of Episodes of Human Cannibalism in the Paleolithic,” James Cole
10. “Eating Human Beings,” Mikel Burley
11. “The Most Influential Text On Cannibalism: An Analysis of William Aren’s ‘The Man-Eating Myth’,” Tim Seiter
12. “Neanderthal Cannibalism at Moula Guercy, Aredeche, France,” Alban Defleur, et al
13. “Placentophagia In Humans and Nonhuman Mammals; Causes and Consequences,” Mark B. Kristal, et al
14. “Consumption of Maternal Placenta in Humans and Nonhuman Mammals: Beneficial and Adverse Effects,” Daniel Mota-Rojas et al
15. “A Literature Review on the Practice of Placentophagia,” Rachel Joseph, et al
16. “Cannibalism,” S.H. Posinsky
17. “Thinking About Cannibalism,” Shirley Lindenbaum
Less important, as the following book has been both debunked and analyzed as horribly racist (but sometimes you have to read the bad things):
18. “The Man-Eating Myth,” William Aren

As pride month begins, let us not forget our Palestinian brothers and sisters.
now more than ever, please vet gofundmes before you donate.
copy and paste descriptions into google to see if there are scam accounts reusing the same story, check to see if there are any images/updates on the fund with faces. go to the original blog, check if the post asking for help is only an hour old, or even less than that. refrain from donating if all it links to is a PayPal account, without any further confirmation of identity.
it’s horrible to say but it’s never been a better time for scam artists to exploit your generosity, when things seem so dire, and I’ve donated to campaigns before only to realise later that the entire story was stolen from an actual family in need. due diligence might take a few more minutes out of your day but at least you won’t be sending money to an opportunistic scumbag.
for campaigns on tumblr: please check out @/el-shab-hussein's list of verified fundraisers here on tumblr and also @/nabulsi. they both do incredible work at vetting campaigns.
there is also this spreadsheet made by @/nabulsi and @/el-shab-hussein.
Fundraiser List Vetted Gaza Fundraiser List,This list was researched and created by @/el-shab-hussein and @/nabulsi on tumblr. It is not co
other places to find vetted fundraisers are the operation olive branch spreadsheet and also gazafunds.
Find vetted fundraisers for Gaza here
I will say that while the aforementioned tips are generally applicable to vetting fundraisers, you cannot generalise with Gazans if their tumblr blog is only a few days or a few hours old.
Gazans on tumblr are making accounts for the express purpose of spreading their fundraisers because it is spreading amongst Gazans that tumblr is a safe place to do so.
They could often be making multiple blogs and even remaking after staff flags them as spam. But don't blanket assume that Gazans are scammers if they're on a new tumblr blog with no pfp or content.
I agree that until a fundraiser is vetted you shouldn't reblog it in case it is someone dishonest taking advantage of the circumstances in Gaza. But you cannot do the opposite and immediately assume they're a scammer. I'm seeing people harass Gazans sometimes who genuinely are people who just don't know how to use tumblr and are falsely raising red flags because of it.
”great” britain? actually I find it quite mid
happy 10k notes to this post! shoutout to all the brits reblogging it saying it’s actually quite awful and to everyone saying “‘united’ states of america? Actually I find them quite divided”
in the past 48 hours kendrick lamar has:
used a picture, apparently taken inside of drake's house, showing various medications including ozempic (which drake has dissed other people for taking!) prescribed under drake's legal name, as cover art for a single
implied that members of drake's entourage are acting as his informants
claimed he would be a better role model to adonis, drake's son whose existence was publicized via a previous rap beef, than drake is
claimed that drake also has an eleven-year old daughter that he's been hiding, and likely other illegitimate children
claimed that drake and his entourage are part of a sex trafficking ring
said drake should die so women can be safe
called drake a colonizer who appropriates black american culture
directly called drake and his entourage pedophiles
in my head the star wars equivalent of tswift is some human woman named tay’lor spiff or something and her stans are losing their minds over theories that she’s secretly a jedi singing about the horrors of war, even though she’s from a neutral system that hasn’t seen so much as a moral panic in 50 years
the theories get even more egregious during the imperial era, with people straight up thinking she joined the rebellion in secret and is loading her songs with subliminal rebel propaganda. their main piece of evidence for this is if you play a certain song backwards, it sounds like she’s saying “freedom” in shyriiwook. the fans get really defensive if you point out she’s performed at the yearly empire day celebration thrice now and her family historically owned ewok slaves
i regret to inform both you beautiful people that this isn’t going to go how you think it will
spiff fans (also known as “spiffies”) insist that the two decommissioned venator-class destroyers spiff purchased, the bad blood and the reputation, are for diplomatic purposes that benefit the rebellion. jedi’lors have concocted theories that she served on both ships during the clone wars and was respectful of every clone that served there, despite her courtship of a gravball player that thrice advocated against the clone veterans being granted natural citizenship
