{{â}} Considering the princessâ solemn mood as of late the habitual visits to the home of the man she once loved was an unwise decision on her part. What she hoped to accomplish by strolling by daily was unknown to her. Perhaps, there was a notion that his sudden return was inevitable and she would somehow witness this spontaneous homecoming. The outlook was grim at best but the young monarch was painfully optimistic no matter her situation.Â
Although, perhaps her efforts were about to pay off on this particularly sunny afternoon. At first glance the estate looked vacant as it always did. Rapunzel was only moments away from passing his home altogether when the sound of running water reached her ears. Glancing up from the pavement she could see the rustling of leaves from the front garden. Tentatively she approached until the businessmanâs taller frame came into view. He was turned away from her with a watering can in hand.Â
Frozen in place she could feel her eyes begin to sting with the promise of impending tears. She dared not move an inch at the chance that she might wake up from whatever dream this was. Swallowing hard she found her voice eventually, though it was raw with emotion. âOncie?â It was more of a plea than a question. âPlease tell me youâre really hereâŠI-I donât want to be dreaming.â Shoulders shook with a quiet sob as a hand raised to cup her mouth to prevent any further betrayal of her own heartache.
A hand propped upon his waist, it wasnât long before the other swept the salt from his brow, a wearied sigh accompanying the motion. Thus far his efforts to get back on the right track (following a rather brutal lesson) since last he was here yielded little in the way of results. The bearer of a green thumb he was not. And yet, it was stubbornly that he continued to tend to the weary saplings just now springing from the earth beneath his feet.
If anything, it was a way to preoccupy a wearied mind. Rather than sit in silence and dwell upon that to which he had returned (not to mention everything heâd left behind), he had a project to which he could devote his time and efforts-- a distraction. Imagine his surprise, then, when a far more happy distraction from this distraction came around.
His name upon familiar lips caused the man to turn on a dime, eyes widening in surprise at the sight of leafy hues and a shock of golden hair to greet him. It took a pinch to convince himself he too wasnât dreaming before the watering can slipped from his grip. And, seemingly as clumsily as the motion could be made possible, the Once-ler stumbled from the recesses of his garden towards the main pathway.
âRapunzel? Hey--!â The exuberant warmth of a beaming smile rained down on the young woman as arms were swift to envelop her, a solid embrace holding the princess to his chest as he babbled on in glee. âHey, hey, donât cry! Come on, itâs okay. Oh man,â He paused, in close proximity now scarcely able to believe the woman for whom heâd harbored such affection was here. So with a hint of a sob which bordered more upon laughter, he spoke again. âItâs no dream-- honest! Rapunzel... Man, am I glad to see you...â
