My grandpa told me
"Always admit and congratulate good things done by the authority, even if they are your enemies. But always remain a guerrillero against them, even if they were your allies"
West Germany was very lenient with the nazis in the post-war era, allowing many nazi officials to exercise power in the new republic.
East Germany was explicitly an antifascist state. They famously executed many nazis in the post-war era.
The problem came with dogmatism, repression and the new generations.
West Germany's youth started to dig into the past and reckoned with it and move past it, creating a heavy antifascist culture where they denounce their nazis.
East Germany followed party dogma and it stipulated that fascism was an extreme form of capitalism, so it was impossible for it to brew in a socialist country like the GDR (East Germany).
In the 80s, when football ultras show the beginning of a return of the far right, the GDR tried to stomp them without raising any attention, because their anti-fascist effort was a contradiction to their dogma.
The difference is that West Germany tried to reckon with their nazism and their past and move past it, while the East just shot the nazis that committed crimes and moved on without ever reckoning with it because party dogma says that there can't be nazism under socialism.
Results: AfD, the far-right party, received overwhelmingly the most support in East Germany
The communists I've met IRL have only invited me to book clubs, protests where they promote themselves, and dumb stuff like that. The anarchists I've met have built community gardens for the poor in food deserts, get clothes for the needy, given me a coat for winter, fight nazis...
I'm sorry, but oppressed people's versions of right-wing ideologies are reactionary, not progressive.
This includes Hamas, Irish far-right nationalists (not republicans), Julius Malema and the EFF, Farrakhan, Taliban, Ukrainian nationalism (Right Sector, Azov B..), black Israelites and other separatists, religious orthodoxy, Hutu militias, Algerian nationalism, etc etc etc
I went to a very conservative catholic school. A really old friend from elementary school went through this whole alt-right cath-trad shit and I'd always talk to him about philosophy and politics and he finally stepped out of the fascist shit, I'm so proud of him.
Talk to your friends, with your family. Maybe you'll plant the seed that will bring them back. It's better than beating the fascists into a coma if you can make someone simply not a fascist
When you protest. Whenever you do something, an act of vandalism, destructive behavior, anything at all.
Make sure the destructive behavior is useful, not just aimless.
If energy is spent aimlessly then its energy wasted.
Puputovs, dung bombs
One egg, a container, something to seal it, urine and feces, that is all that was needed to make a puputov. In 2017, rioters in Venezuela came up with "Marcha de la Mierda" (The Marching of Shit) in which everyone made this new weapon for urban unrest.
By mixing feces with some urine to make it liquid, plus adding an egg to make it even more rotten, the mix is ready. Close it to make sure it doesnt fall on you and if it's a glass container leave under the sun for a few hours. In short, the mix has to be as disgusting as possible.
They dont kill people, they dont hurt people (except for the blunt damage of the container if it hits directly), but they are very effective. A little amount on a riot cop would make them lose composure, a medium amount will make them puke. A well placed puputov WILL break a shield wall.
When the water canons and the armored vehicles arrived, only moltovs and puputovs could help. Moltovs make the inside of an APC too hot, while the puputov if aimed at the ventilation of the armored truck will fill the APC with an unberable smell.
When shit hits the fan, we threw it
I support schools, I know they are much better than them not existing. But they need so much reform.
Because once they become functionally useless on what they teach, then for parents it is just a daycare and for kids a concentration camp
I don’t know what to say that hasn’t already been said, another Palestinian has been murdered by the occupation, and one known by so many of us as a journalist on Al Jazeera - Shireen Abu Aqla cannot be forgotten, may she rest
Reminder this isn't an isolated case
ABORTION, PERSONHOOD, BODILY AUTONOMY AND THE STATE.
What is a person and when life begins is obviously a philosophical question that can't be answered and also irrelevant.
The bigger question is: why is a woman forced to carry anything inside her against her will? Regardless if she's irresponsible with her actions that led her there.
Let's do an example:
Picture you are driving. Drunk driving, in fact, a completely irresponsible act. In doing so, you caused an accident.
You wake up in the hospital, while you open your eyes and the blur becomes clear you see you are connected to a machine that is taking blood out from your body and going to the patient next to you, who seems to be the person you crashed against.
The doctor explains that you are the only person who has matching blood type for the dying patient and he WILL die without your blood.
Even in this case, you would not be in the obligation to keep giving your blood out to this other person. You can just disconnect the machine and leave. You can argue the morality of letting someone die, but even if a full fledged person is going to die, your bodily autonomy comes first. Imagine if the state forced random people on the street to donate blood for patients, or even organs. This would be a gross violation of authority.
This is the case with abortion, regardless of your opinion on personhood, the state has no right to force anyone to violate their own bodily autonomy.
How Neoliberalism destroyed Venezuela
USA history with Venezuela is unique:
1- in 1953-1958 we had a dictator that was a conservative progressive latinamericanist, anti-American. The USA supported his overthrow by communist Romulo Betancourt with the condition his party changed to social democracy instead of socialism.
2- Venezuela under the Punto Fijo bipartidism would ping pong between leftist social democracy and socialchristianity (conservative social democracy), but protected by the USA as Venezuela would partner with them in their interests against communists in Colombia. This allowed for Venezuela to be the most stable government and economically developed country in Latin America while everyone else in the continent was getting coups and social destabilization from the USA and communist guerrillas like Shining Path or FARC
3- Social Democracy turned to neoliberalism in the 80s thanks to Reagan's pressures in Venezuela and in 1983 we had Black Friday, which signaled the financial collapse and decline in Venezuela which never truly stopped to this day. This neoliberalism resulted in widespread poverty and in 1989 riots known as Caracazo left 3000 dead after the military intervened
This pressure from Reagan also meant Venezuela also funded the Contras in Nicaragua, for which the president who funded them and sent the military in 1989 against rioters, Carlos Andres Perez (himself a former leftist) was trialed
4- This shift towards neoliberalism was the start of Venezuelan hatred against USA. A military man, Hugo Chavez led a failed coup against the president in 1992, which gained him popularity. He got amnesty by the next president And in 1999, Chavez got elected president himself
5- So it wasn't until 1999 that Venezuela started to be hostile against USA and it was all thanks to neoliberal policies from Reagan, influencing Venezuela. Chavez was not at all a good leader but he did represent a real resentment against the USA and a move against neoliberalism
6- In 2002, the military did a coup against Chavez and installed a billionaire business man as president with intel cooperation of USA. However, Carmona (the new president) was so insane that he was deposed by the same military within 48 hours, reinstalling Chavez
Public transit should be free. Why put a fare? Pay it with taxes. Installing a fare to ride the metro or the bus will just put a barrier for people to use public transport
Free (at point of service) = more riders = more efficient
No tickets = less money needed for policing it
Not to mention homeless people or broke people being left out of it and/or people not paying the fare will be arrested.
This neoliberal idea that govt programs need to run on profit is so stupid.
That expectation of profit is what is killing the USPS
Also, why do public employees have to pay taxes? They are paid with taxes! Just pay them a bit less and exempt them from taxes
It's expensive to be poor, but it's just dumbfounding how expensive it is to be homeless:
-No kitchen, all your food must be bought prepared
-No fixed address, figure that out (jobs, mail, phone plans, loans..)
-Health issues constantly
Not to mention they are usually charged extra when they can finally afford housing.
Or the police arresting them for no reason or destroying their property and then not being able to pay bail.
Or just the drugs if you need them to cope with the shitty situation you're in.
Becoming a parent is a selfish affair. Your child didn't ask to be born, don't act like they owe you anything. It is your responsibility for them to have a good life and they'll have the duty to care for you too.
But a duty is a not a debt, don't act like they should be grateful
You chose to be a parent, they didnt choose to be offspring.
You aren't a dictator either, so don't have children for them to be your slaves.
If you choose to be a parent, care for them and treat them like humans, treat them with respect, not resentment or authority
