It was rather windy today, nothing extraordinary though. What was extraordinary though, was the fact that it was your first school day on your exchange year. Lovely, isnât it?
âAre you nervous?â Your host mom, Rebecca, asked you gently as she steered the wheel of her car.
âAnyone would beâŚâ You muttered nervously, as you continued fidgeting with your hands. âBut Iâll get through it.âÂ
âOf course you will, and if anything, you can come find me in my office.â She smiled and took a right turn, making your new school come into view. To your luck, she was a teacher at this school, however, you assumed you wonât need to seek her out. You had a good feeling from this.Â
âIâll keep that in mind.â You smiled and opened the car door as soon as she parked the car. âNow just the boring stuff, right? Seeing the principal and allâŚâ You asked and she nodded.Â
Thankfully, all the boring stuff was over. The principal was a rather normal man, at least up to the American standard, you supposed. He greeted you, explained a few things that you were already aware of, thanks to Rebecca, and then you were sent into your first class.Â
It was rather stressful, considering you wonât be in just one class with one set group of students, like is normal in many countries, but they must be used to exchange students. RightâŚ?
âYour first period is my class.â Rebecca announced and motioned for you to follow her, which you did. âYou like science though, so it shouldnât be a problem.â She smiled and patted your shoulder.Â
You walked into the classroom, and the class quieted down. âMorning, everyone, this is (Name) (Last Name), a new exchange student from (Your Country). Be nice.â She smiled at the class and told you to go sit down in the only free seat. This was one of the classrooms where the tables were for multiple people. Six, in this case.
You nodded and mumbled a shy hello to your seatmates and sat down. The other five people here were⌠a peculiar group, you could say. Three girls who looked like they were out of a fashion magazine. âMust be one of the popular ones.â You thought and examined the other two guys. A blonde with hazelnut eyes, and a white hairedâis he albino or something?âguy with dark eyes.
âSince this is your first lesson of the year, and youâre freshmen, today's work wonât be anyhow hard. Here is a work sheet youâll fill out. Composed of some questions you should know from previous years, and also a part to speak with your deskmates.â She said and started handing them out.Â
You looked down onto the sheet. âWhat is the largest planet in our solar system?â You read to yourself. What a basic question⌠Shouldnât a first grader know that? You pondered over the simplicity of the question, before writing down the answer. Jupiter.
âHey, Stanley.â One of the girls mused towards the blond. âDo you know the answers?â She smiled and batted her eyelashes, in an attempt to charm him, probably.
âNot interested.â He waved his hand swiftly, shutting her down. âAsk the exchange student or something.â He said, and suddenly, all eyes were on you.Â
âUhmâŚâ You nervously looked around. âI have a name.â You smiled bitterly. âAnd the answers are fairly simple. You should know them..â You said and the girl scoffed.Â
âPlease, I donât need this stupid science. Iâll marry rich, and wonât need this.â She waved her hand and then flipped her hair away.Â
âScience isnât stupid⌠Youâve got bleached hair, how do you think they thought of hair dye or bleach?â You smiled. âThe answer to question number one is Jupiter.âÂ
âRight⌠I certainly knew that? And number two? âWhich country has the most tornadoes?ââ
âThe country you live inâŚâ
âTexas?â She wrote down happily, and you sweatdropped, while the guys side eyed her. Not blaming them, you were close to that as well.Â
âWell, Texas does indeed have one of the highest number of tornadoes in the United States of America. The answer by the wayâŚâ
âRight, thanks smarty pants.â She scribbled over her answer, correcting it.
âHow do you not know in what country you live?â You shook your head and looked back onto the paper. âDiscuss with your deskmates your favourite things about science class.â It read, and so you looked up, everyone seemed quite unwilling, but ready.
âWell for me,â The Texas girl started. âI like to do my nails in class, Mrs. Smith doesnât care, since she knows I wonât ever need this again.â She smiled proudly, and her friends nodded along, and answered in a similar manner.
âWell, I enjoy science, however, everything we learn about is rather unstimulating. Itâs too easy.â The albino (?) answered with a smirk. Does he perchance study science in his free time? So cool!! You can definitely relate.Â
Then, Stanley answered too. âScience is easy, thanks to Xeno here, itâs fun watching him get excited over this stuff though.â He said absentmindedly.
âFagsâŚâ The Texas girl muttered. How rude.Â
âAt least I can pull someone who looks good.â Xeno snickered, â(Name), that there is her boyfriend.â He chuckled and pointed to an average American guy. Nothing bad about him, but his looks screamed i-cheat-on-my-girlfriend-and-am-a-future-deadbeat.Â
âH-hey!! At least my kids will get good genes.â She defended herself, rather than the guy. And you just shared a look with the other two.Â
A few seconds passed in an awkward silence, until a loud sound of sirens could be heard. âOh c'mon!! Itâs nearly the end of tornado season.â One of the Texas girl's friends whined.
âShut it, Stephanie!â Texas girl reprimanded her.
âTornadoes can happen during any time of the year.â You sighed at their behavior, but couldnât help and look out the window curiously, wondering whether youâd see the beast youâve been itching to see for years. Well, hopefully not, since all you can see from this window is a city landscape.
âEveryone, letâs go to the basement!â Rebecca said with badly hidden urgency in her voice, and ushered the teens to quickly stand up and walk into the hallway.Â
As you walk down the stairs, someone approaches you. âYou seemed rather eager to see it, didnât you?â Xeno asked you with an amused expression.Â
âOh, well, Iâve been fascinated by tornadoes ever since I was little.â You answered with a small hint of embarrassment in your voice. âBut itâd be bad if I saw it from that window, I mean, the town is on that side!â To which he just nodded.
âI think youâll have more than enough time to see some beautiful tornadoes this year, hopefully those in the fields.â He smiled. âI'm Xeno, by the way. Xeno Houston Wingfield.â He extended his hand, which you gladly accepted. âAnd that,â he pointed to his blond friend, whose name you already overheard. âThat's my friend, Stanley Snyder.âÂ
âNice to meet you both,â You shook their hands. âSure youâve heard, but Iâm (Name) (Last Name).âÂ
And that is how your fate was sealed. This year will change your life. Certainly for the better.
About an hour later, the tornado had passed, just barely missing any houses, and you were to set off to your classes. âWhat class do you have now?â Stanley asked curiously, glancing at your schedule.Â
âLet me seeâŚâ you mumble and scan through the paper. âMath.âÂ
âAh, what a pity,â Xeno butted into the conversation. âAll of us have a different period right now.âÂ
âI guess Iâll have to communicate with more people now.â You sighed.Â
âThen, though, we should have history together.â Stanley announced. âJust the two of us though. Sorry Xe.â He teased the white haired man.Â
This lesson, you were all alone, no one you knew was around. Not a teacher, not a studentâ Oh wait! Is that the Texas girl? What did Stanley say was her name? Right, it was Bethany.Â
And she placed her things right onto the table next to you, since they were those desks where you sit alone. âLook who it is here.â She scoffed and looked you up and down. âSmarty pants, whoâs friends with those faggots.â She scoffed again, and flipped her hair away.Â
âWhy do you keep insulting themâHeck, I donât even know if they are actually togetherâŚâ You grumbled and looked up at her from your seat. âAnd even if they are, thereâs nothing wrong with loving who you are.âÂ
âAre you one of those woke people?â She faked a gag.
âWoke?â You tilt your head slightly. âAs in awake? Yeah, I am. Itâd be pretty bad if I had a conversation while I was asleep.âÂ
âNot what I- ugh, forget it.â She finally stomped off to her friends, a few seats away.Â
But besides that, nothing happened during this lesson, and nothing happened during the next one with Stanle either, besides curious glances. How peculiar.
A few months passed by, nearly half a year, actually, and your friendship with the duo only blossomed, however, you learned that the people here can be really mean. Is it truly freedom if you cannot fully express yourself? Land of freedom my ass. Is what you told yourself everyday, of course, you didnât really know whether Stanley and Xeno were actually dating. I mean, asking would be honestly just awkward.
Still though, even if they were, what right does it give to the other students to be mean to themâand consequently also you.Â
âHey, (Name), we are hanging out after school, okay?â Xeno basically announced to you, as he put his things on the group table you shared. After the first week, the pick me group of girls changed seats, and left your trio alone, which is probably for the better.Â
âMkay, sure.â You mused as you scrambled to finish your homework for the next lesson. Curse these everyday hangouts that keep you busyâwell, you didnât mind. Spending time with your friends made you happy, and kept your heart warm.
After school, you guys got into Stanley's carâhe only recently received his drivers permit, and got an old, used carâand drove away to the fields again. Xeno was planning another experiment, whatever this one was.Â
âWhat is it this time?â You asked curiously, as you glanced to the trunk, trying to see what it was, but it was empty.Â
âA tornado watch has been issued for this area. We are gonna chase storms!â he turned his body to look at you in the back seat, and you couldâve sworn you saw a smirk on Stanleyâs face as well.Â
âWe are gonna chase a storm?â You asked, a huge amount of excitement evident on your face.Â
âWe talked with your host mom, and she said itâs alright as long as we donât go too close to any tornado that might drop to the ground.â He said and passed his tablet to you. âYou should know what to watch for, right?â He smiled, fully aware of your capabilities.Â
âDuh.â You took the tablet and stared at the radar. After observing the radar, and the direction you were going in, you took your own phone and opened a map. âGo left on the next turn.â You told Stanley. âThereâs a rotation on the southwest, we will go slightly under it, to stay safe.âÂ
Stanley did as you said, while you stayed, looking at the radar, and from the windows. âOh look! Thereâs a dropping funnel cloud!â You pointed to the exact direction you were going in. âSo beautiful.â You mused again, and started recording a video. âGo left and then right.âÂ
This storm was truly one of a kind, it was still early into the storm season, but it looked like it could produce some strong tornadoes. The funnel cloud that was in front of youâwell, now it was on your rightâfinally dropped and formed a tornado. In the best case scenario, it wouldnât hit any buildings. That would be lovely. But then, another tornado formed slightly to the west of this one, following the exact same path.Â
The car stopped and you excited the vehicle to take some good footage of the beauty, two tornadoes in one frame, more than you ever expected to get. These two, however, were quite short lived, and it didnât take long for them to disappear again.Â
After that, a few more tiny tornadoes with minor damage hit the ground that day in your area, and all of them were breathtaking, however, for your company, somethingâmore like someoneâelse was more breathtaking.
Stanley pulled into Xenoâs driveway and you left the car, you texted your host mom that youâre alive and well, going to sleep over at their place, and then went to Xenoâs room, plopping on his bed in exhaustion.
âThank you so much.â You breathed out and stretched. âIâve got some great footage! And none of these hit any buildings! Thatâs a huge win.â
âIt was great.â They both said at the same time, before sharing a look, and bursting out laughing. Then they plopped on the bed next to you. âTruly breathtakingâŚâ They said as you reviewed the footage.Â
âRight!! It was so clear! So beautiful.âÂ
âI meant you.â He said, loud and clear. And Stanley didnât seem surprised either, as he was nodding along.Â
âWhatâŚ?â You tilted your head in confusion. âI thought you were gayâŚâ You mumbled as you pondered.Â
âGod forbid I like both of my friends equally.â Stanley scoffed and patted your head, what he said caused both you AND Xeno to blush. âW-what do you mean?â
âThe bullies were right.â He smirked proudly. âEven if partially⌠but at least I have a type.â nerds.
Am I in a dream? You pinched yourself, hard, and flinched away.
âStan, I thought we were gonna confess together.â Xeno pouted childishly and turned off the tornado footage you were reviewing, then stood besides Stan, both of them towering above you, as you sat on Xenoâs bedâwhich, might I add, was pretty big.Â
But oh, your thoughts only buzzed with unsure thoughts. Stan seems like two inches taller than Xenoâdammit, why am I using american units, this exchange really messed me upâbut besides that-But then, you decide to stop your thoughts, itâs not exactly the moment to think about their height when theyâre towering above you, looking like theyâre about to devour you.
Wow⌠you never wouldâve thought Xeno would look like this, eyes lidded and cheeks flushed. Not because of reasons you might think about. Just simply because he was embarrassed. âYou see, we planned to confess to you a little bit before you left, we simply thought youâd be weirded out by both of us liking you⌠and, well, each other⌠but I considered all the possibilities I could think of just now, and I donât think thatâs the case⌠Right?âÂ
âConfess? Both of you?â You asked nervously, but secretly screaming internally.Â
âWell, yes, both of us.â Stanley confirmed with a subtle nod, and at that, you couldnât hold back, and spun around, unable to contain your excitement.
âAm I not dreaming?â You asked excitedly, while the duo observed your (weirdly) excited reaction.
âWe haven't done it yet, calm downâŚâ Stan chuckled and sat beside you, probably not to look so⌠intimidating(ly hot). Those teenage hormones, you swearâŚ
And with that evening, the three of you ended as even a bigger target towards bullies than before, throuple? How âdisgustingâ they said, but they were probably just jealous. Who wouldnât wanna kiss a crazy scientist and his (and your) boyfriend who smokes too much. Exactly.Â
However, the fact that youâre an exchange student still stands, and the day where you would wave at them, and then leave, came closer and closer. Your host family told you to not think about it, to enjoy the rest of your stay. And you really took their words to heart, and spent even more time with your boyfriends (Like, 25/8). But the feeling weighed heavily on your heart, and every time you bid your goodbyes, a pang shot through your heart.
Within the blink of an eye, all these good things were behind you, and you stood at the airport, about to go through the body check control.Â
âWe will keep in touch, right?â You sobbed into their arms, as you hugged them closer, afraid theyâd just forget you, and be gay by themselves.Â
âOh Iâd touch youâŚboth of youâŚ.â Stanley muttered to himself as he continued patting your head, in an attempt to comfort you.Â
âNot the time and place, StanâŚâ Xe sighed and pulled out of the group hugâfor he was never much of a huggerâand stared you up and down. âNext time you come to America, itâll be for college, right?â
âIf I get acceptedâŚâ You smiled sadly, since that is an important part of your future, and itâs still so unclear.
âThere is no way they wouldnât accept you. Youâre elegant. Truly elegant.â Xeno smirked. âWell, see you in a few years.â He smirked, pressed a chaste kiss on your lips, and turned around, walking off.Â
Stan followed his lead, and kissed you on the lips. âDonât let the plane leave without you.â He smiled and walked off with Xeno.Â
Before going through the security, you looked back once more, to see them standing outside the airport, and Stan lighting a cigarette. What a bad habit he developed this yearâŚ.
Returning back to your home country was honestly exhausting. Everyone wanted to hear stories, drama, your lovelife⌠Yeah, but what were you supposed to say? âOh yeah, I got bullied because I was friends with two apparently gay dudes, well turns out they liked me too, and now weâre a throupleâ? That would earn you the same reputation as you had in the states. So you left it out.Â
However, the hum of questions and curious glances of your peers soon subsided, and you were left to your own devices again.Â
Surprisingly though, a few years ran by really quick, and it was the time for you to go to college. It wasnât easy to get into a college in the US as an international student, but thankfully, international programs have been improving every year.Â
So thatâs why youâre here again, George Bush Intercontinental Airport. Which is in Houston by the way. We are in Texas again, baby.
â(Name)!!â You heard someone call you through the crowd, took a while to get there, these people truly have no spatial awareness⌠Itâs like a fight for your own life, trying to get through them, with no way around. âXe!!â You said back as soon as you got through the crowd, and saw his handsome face. The lighting today made it even betterâor maybe itâs just the fact you didnât see him for years. Within a second, your arms wrapped around his body, squishing him close.Â
âXe.. I missed you so muchâŚâ You pull away and then look around. âStan couldnât make it?â You questioned, a hint of sadness.
âMilitary stuff⌠theyâre really strictâŚâ Xeno sighed, faking sadness, but in reality, he was happy to be the first one to have you all to himself, after only having Stanley for these past years. And the worse thing, you were all aloneânot counting your friends back home, Xeno is just slightly possessive, is all. âHe promised heâll have time in the evening to call, though.â He patted your head and offered to take your suitcase, leading you to his car.Â
Stanley said heâd call, and he did. You spent the afternoon anticipating his call. Yeah, you were in touch even before, but still, at least youâre in the same country now. Finally, the phone started ringing, and you picked it up eagerly, only to be greeted with a smooth voice. You miss so much, long to hear it in front of you. So why did you hear it from behind you?
You quickly spun around, to be greeted with a sight you longed to see, both of your boyfriends in one place. Is this a dream? âWait- how come you're here?â You questioned Stan, but your words were muffled, because you hugged him with more strength than you ever thought you had.Â
âIâm actually leaving tomorrowâŚâ he whispered, âI just really wanted to see you. You look good.â He smirked and looked you up and down with a seductive glance, before side-eyeing the scientists. âYou're thinking what Iâm thinking?â
And letâs just say, his last night was truly memorable.
