more people need to get on prycecutter, it's such an interesting subversion for how it is the perfect fulfillment of partnership. i think theyre essential to the hetromance conception for me for how they fall OUTSIDE it. whereas, to take an example of a different "ideal" couple, mulder and scully--a different kind of partnership where the heterosexual desire manifests through walking the path to professional convergence--provide another alternative to the domestic model. this is what that post is abt that says fujoshis understand the functional fantasy of difference better than hetromance enjoyers (which i dont think they do, because it is fundamentally about needing to "transcend" womanhood for equality, in a way that craves and highlights the power difference nonetheless, outside the gender horrors--nothing wrong with that it's very appealing but not the focus here. the focus is i agree w the problem--) a meeting of the minds leading to a meeting of the bodies in which sex may or may not factor. because it's only one strain of desire only one channel through which it's realized ! and why does that channel have to lead to the domestic why do the limits of (what we see as) romance need to fall within the confines of the family system. the mutual reliance of prycecutter is not based on a division of power because power isn't seen as something to divide--they have financial independence, and equality, and their power is each their own, and they voluntarily pool their best qualities for the benefit, and happiness, and most importantly pleasure of the other, to realize a shared vision. is it romance? no. but romance is the word closest to existing ideals of partnership to describe what they've built together, even as it is only a fraction of what they truly have. that's fascinating !
