Step one: use hall bathroom instead of master bathroom, notice that Builder Beige switchplate is horrid with lovely new purple walls. Take it down and wash it thoroughly.
Step two: dig out stash of old seed catalogues saved for this purpose. Get super crabby because you can't find the Mod Podge anywhere. Give up, then have daughter find it immediately, in the "glue box" you forgot you created.
Step three: decide on a color scheme, and start cutting. I asked @phantomtheraccoon if we should coordinate or contrast and she cleverly said both.
Step four: collect your flowers and fiddle with layout.
Step five: paint item with Mod Podge, place your images, and paint them again. Leave to dry, which honestly doesn't take long.
Step six: trim edges add cut out holes. I didn't actually cut out the screw holes; I just cut little X's there for the screws to go through. Worked fine to put it up, we'll see someday how it survives taking it apart again.
Step seven: coat everything with Mod Podge at least one more time, paying special attention to edges. Dry elevated on something (say, the top of the Mod Podge bottle) so it doesn't stick down.
Step eight: okay, wow, that's awesomer than expected!
*jazz hands*
Ooh, yes, I should decorate my light switch plates here, even if I can't bring myself to do all the painting. I used to have a Lumos/Nox one I made very hastily when I was first renting and it made me happy every time I used it. Light switch plates are such an easy, cheap way to decorate when your space is temporary (they're like a dollar at home improvement stores and very simple to replace with the original when you move out), highly recommend this kind of craft.
Yes to this addition. They're so cheap! Just do something, and then you will enjoy it every time you use it! Do something crappy! You can redo it later. This is such a low-risk/high reward project.
Reblogging because I still enjoy this switchplate every time.
plates: painted green, decoupaged with paper jungle/diluted white glue, waiting for blossoms and sealing.

inspired to just do the thing by @rederiswrites , in context with wall art by @yuumei-art
Oh it's wonderful!
They had us do this in Girl Scouts! It's such a wonderful activity for kids too, and a great way to have them contribute to the house. My mother still has my sister and mine up and in use.
@joy-and-whimsy-official this fits, don’t you agree?
Joy and whimsy detected! This arts and crafts is joyful and whimsical!
First spin This Wheel to get a companion(ish person), then spin This Wheel to get a Doctor. Feel free to spin until you get someone you're familiar with. Now.
Do they fit together?
traveled together in canon and yes
traveled together in canon and no
they would be fantastic together
they'd be fine. good. ok.
unsure. could go either way.
don't think it would be that good
bad. very bad. not good.
nuanced nuance
Feel free to interpret "fit together" however you want. Would they like each other? Would they be entertaining to watch? Could mean either or both. Whatever you decide.
I got Tegan and the Fifteenth Doctor. It very much depends. If he met her instead of the Fifth Doctor then he'd definitely get her back to Heathrow and everything would be fine. If he meets her in present day, then it could be a bit interesting.
Peri and the Seventh Doctor. I picked unsure, because that could go well, it could go really badly, and also she doesn't blow stuff up.
Paint primary colors on fan wings
BRILLIANT
Did we just discover how to paint with all the colors of the wind?

Bro I just found out how many actors were offered the role of the Eight Doctor look at this

I miss when ads were a single click and then they’re gone. Now every ad has a minimum of three phases where you watch a video, exit the still frame of fake gameplay, and then exit the app download. That doesn’t even touch on the ones that forcibly take you to another app after opening a tab in safari without you ever touching the screen.
I hate advertising. I hate that you can’t do anything without companies jumping down your throat with mostly bullshit ads. I hate that billboards exist. I hate that every company unanimously decided to make their ads longer and longer. I hate that ad blockers try to charge you money and there are in app purchases to remove ads. I hate that my attention has become commodified. I hate that there’s nothing I can do about it.
please wear sunscreen!!! I've seen "fuck the beauty industrial complex" posts about complicated skincare regimens and am 100% with them except sometimes they mention sunscreen and no. no. absolutely not. sunscreen is a wonderful supportive friend who wants to keep you safe, and you should let her do it. throw out all your other cosmetics and skincare products if you want, but keep your sunscreen. and if you're not wearing sunscreen, start wearing it!!!! this is not about terror of aging, this is not about every tiny imperfection our fucked-up culture has made you feel insecure about, this is about protecting yourself from skin cancer. wear the damn sunscreen.
On fun thing about everyone using ai to do their data analysis or write articles or whatever is it's really exposing how many people weren't doing their jobs this whole time.
"We just found out that the ai tool we've been using to make business decisions for 3 months has been hallucinating all the sales data!" okay well it was stupid to use ai for this, why didn't you learn how glitchy it was before implementing it, but far more importantly, what you've just told me is that nobody bothered to check the real numbers for 3 months. "This guy has been using ai to write 9 magazine articles for us and the quoted info was all fake, he has been fired" no editor checked the first eight? "I used ai to write this report and the math was wrong" you didn't check the math? In your own report? Everyone is just telling on themselves re: how their work was always wildly unreliable and they already weren't doing their jobs.
Awhile back I was looking at some marketing nonsense about some company trying to create, like, virtual versions of workers that could help with their jobs, and obviously the actual target was employers (who they wanted to convince that they could replace all their workers with bots and save on salaries) but they were pretending to market it to the workers themselves, and their whole pitch was like "imagine if this digital version of you went to all your meetings and stuff while you hung out at the beach, and emailed you a meeting summary later".
And I was just like. Meetings where a bunch of people send their AIs to meet and then send them summaries? If no people need to be at the meeting, why is there a fucking meeting? This is Email With Extra Steps. If all that's happening in the meeting is people reporting a bit of information, that can just be a report. All this does is admit that you don't actually need the meetings. You don't need to have robot-only meetings you can just cancel the whole thing.
Students writing papers with AI that teachers then read and grade with AI while media sharing platforms are full of ai slop made so that other ais will watch the slop and inflate viewer numbers. While people send ais to meetings to summarise information given by other people's ais at the meetings. People prompting ai to write messages to their friends which are summarised by a different ai and the friend tells ai to write a message back to be ai summarised again. I saw a reddit post the other day about a guy who couldn't figure out why his bride stormed out of their wedding while he was reading her ai-generated wedding vows. Inaccurate ai-generated shit slips into publication because the editors already weren't checking (assuming the writers were) and now the writers aren't checking (assuming the editor will). It's fascinating to see just how much people are already just nor participating and now they're finding easier ways to not participate. You don't have to get married. The boss doesn't have to schedule these meetings. Every time someone is like "ai fucked this thing up" I'm like. Sounds like you were already not invested in doing it.
When I suggest people go to the doctor for something a lot of them seem to assume I don’t know what it’s like to have doctors that don’t listen to you. Yeah I do actually. I still think you should go to the doctor.
You’d think that once you finally get long term access to a cat and your yearning to have cat access is fulfilled that you’d become slightly less obsessed with seeing people’s cats but no if anything it gets worse
And you think your desire to acquire cats will abate once you hit critical mass and most if not all are badly behaved and destroying your house. But you will keep begging your spouse/parent/roommate to sign off on adopting the next one you fall in love with.
i’m very self aware. which unfortunately hasn’t solved anything
teamwork makes the dream work. and dreamwork. makes shrek
fantastic. i love it. i posted this after my wife said it yesterday and as i was doing it i was like "this can't be an original thought. as soon as i hit post someone's going to say 'you stole this from a tweet from 2014' and i'll say 'no, i stole it from my beautiful wife.'"
its not funny but i do think about it a lot
This made me think about this panel from Calvin and Hobbes:
But unlike the adult in this strip, Calvin’s dad actually APOLOGIZED for yelling at him when he saw how guilty his kid was:
15 month old can't quite say "thank you" so she says "agooo" instead reblog if you agree
I think Grace would be one of those people who when he gets to his 50s and is in great heath will sometimes start conversations with “When I die-“ and Rocky gets upset every time. Grace writes a will and specifies all the best ways to dissect humans so the Eridians can learn as much as possible about his body, while also detailing human funeral customs of different cultures, which they do not have to follow because Grace wants to be dissected and also leaves instructions on how to preserve any specimens they get. Unfortunately because he lives in a sterile terrarium/zoo enclosure his body probably wouldn’t rot so they can’t see the decomposition process. Grace is more upset about this than the scientists.
I raise you, though:
they get around to talking about WHY humans age and die so soon, and the Eridians are like, oh it's your genetic coding getting gradually mangled? it's your telomeres? fucking telomeres? (also your horrifying atmosphere slowly burning you alive but one problem at a time here)
so they wait until the senesence is really affecting him and then they go to the lab and they lobster him up. first human to live 500 years
I will say that's pretty on brand for every problem Grace has brought before Rocky to date.
my controversial opinion is I don’t think Zuko was confused by “my first girlfriend turned into the moon”
he was there during siege of the North. he infiltrated the spirit oasis. he has an uncle who studies spirits and the spirit world. he watched the sky go dark then the moon suddenly reappear like everyone else in the entire world did. and most importantly he watched zhao get eaten by a giant godzilla fish spirit.
his entire life since he saw that beam of blue-white light in the south pole has been ‘this day has already been so goddamn weird’
The only really new information was that that was Sokka’s girlfriend
Important opinion in the tags that I need to have be part of the post:
Also, Iroh was there? He literally watched Sokka make out with the moon spirit. And you want to tell me that a romantic sap like him would not have immediately told Zuko about this romantic tragedy? Please, Zuko has known about this for ages, he just knows that this is not an acceptable situation in which to say “yeah, I know.”
Sokka: “My girlfriend turned into the moon.”
Zuko: “I know.” “Yes.” “She sure did.” “Uh huh.” “Tell me something new.” “Are we still talking about that?” “That’s rough, buddy.”
[image: tags by samwisethebold: #it’s not that he doesn’t get what sokka means #it’s that how on earth do you respond to that]
When you put it like that, this is actually a legendary display of tact on Zuko’s part
