Wait wait wait - believing you’re uniquely terrible is a self importantance thing?? Can that sorta thing lead to self impossed double standards with only ones self (aka anyone else doing this thing is valid but if I do it I’m irredeemable garbage)? Cause if so then I think something just clicked-
1. Yes. Believing you’re uniquely bad can be part of self importance, when paired with little to no self love, depression, anxiety, and/or low self esteem. Where others may see themselves as uniquely good, if you struggle with things like what I listed, you may still have very high self importance, but also hate yourself. (And, even in people who act as though they’re uniquely good, a lot of the time, underneath it is a deep sense of self loathing, and feeling like you need to shield yourself from further harm.)
2. Absolutely. If someone else makes a mistake it’s fine, if I do it I’m scum of the earth. If someone else likes something kind of “weird”, it’s valid, but if it’s me, I’m the worst person alive. A major double standard gets created when you create a bunch of arbitrary rules for yourself to follow in order to be "perfect”, but you may rarely if ever think of those rules with other people.
