One of the greatest men I have ever known past away on Saturday. He had a great deal to do with the man I have become. He lived too be 100 y/o. Survived the sinking of the #usshouston during #WWII. Was a #pow in Japan for 3 years. His funeral will be on Friday. He was a true hero. A stranger who became family. But best of all my friend. #RIP (he hated having his picture taken)

So Terio gets a show... I am done

WARNING! This is a rant. Ok, I have had enough. People tend to make comments and complain about the violence going on in out nation, but at the same time they are partly (or mostly) to blame. You are the reason TMZ exists; why Honey Boo Boo is on TV and why everyone of the Kardashian idiots are using there bodies as tools to fame. You spend so much time watching fake relationships begin and end on the Bachelor and watching famous washed up 'celebrities' dance around like Kramer being attacked by bees. You complain about violence but put phones and tablets in front of our youth as a makeshift babysitter so you can watch your shows or get something done... The signs of trouble are always there but the masses are 'too busy' with absolutely nothing to notice. Maybe the problem is the extremely high divorce rate, yea let's blame that. Or the number of single parents, yea that's it. It has nothing to do with the lack of funding in schools or the misappropriation of taxpayer money to line the pockets of public officials that get paid to do absolutely nothing. Political officers get paid no matter what... Doesn't make sense. They should get paid by what they do not how many vacations they take. They don't deserve anything that is given to them because they forget that the people are what truly matters. Not big business. Privatized prisons and keeping 'certain drugs' Illegal to fill said prisons is despicable. Not to mention pharma drugs that in many cases do more harm than good, creating life debilitating addicts world wide and profiting on the misery of others. We need to be the change. We need to stop complaining and do something. So tonight, after watching the opening game to the World Cup game I am going to call and talk to my nephew and make sure he isn't being a bad kid while ignoring the world, drinking beer and playing video games. Because I am fed up with this reality and will wait for someone else to do something because I am the American dream. Someone else will do it right? I mean the whole country wouldn't pass control of the future to people who only care about $$$ and Power in the present would they? Oh and somehow the obese child known as Terio has a TV show. I give up.

My dog: the idiot

Sometimes I get home and my dog is being lazy and sleeping on the couch. When this happens, I tend to act like I have no idea where he is and walk around saying 'where is tucker'. He doesn't like me seeming confused and comes running to me until I 'find' him. He is not that bright.

Holiday to do list

On a normal year, once November 1st comes around, I get in this ‘mode’. Some might call it energetic, others might just call it crazy(ish). Winter seems to make some people sad and unhappy. I embrace it. Sure it is cold out but there is a unique beauty in this season.

This year I was able to be in town on my birthday for the first time since my 21st. I was able to spend it with friends and some family as well. It was nice. The following weekend I was able to get ‘lost’ in the woods, on purpose (I went hunting). My brother an I even cooked a Pizza in the fire. Let’s just say it was relaxing and kind of opened my eyes to some decisions I need to make soon.

Talk about an amazing past month for Kansas City sports. Sporting Kansas City has grabbed the heart and soul of this city and is taking us all for the ride. Mizzou is grabbing the imaginations of its fan base (myself included) but we are holding our breaths for the (inevitable?) let down. While sports are a great way to spend your time, this holiday season, I want to do things a little different than usual.

Things I want to do this holiday season:

Go ice skating for the first time.

Attend either the Nutcracker, Christmas Carol or Santaland Diaries for the first time in many years.

Take my nephew sledding and make hot chocolate for him when he gets cold.

Help out at a soup kitchen and or the VA. I feel like they might help me more than I would help them.

Try to hand out blankets to people who really need them again. (I once gave a hobo a blanket but he spit on me because he only wanted money <probably for meth or booze>)

Secretly make someone’s day when you can tell they need it. Buy a coffee, meal or even some groceries.

Go to the gingerbread village/Build a gingerbread house (something I haven’t done before.)

Walk around the plaza taking picture in the snow.

Watch classic Christmas movies I haven’t seen before

Find out what this ‘Hanukkah’ is.

Try and embody the term ‘kindness of strangers’ in anyway that I can.

Give away stuff I do not need anymore to people who could use it.

Ring in the New Year with old and new friends.

Spotty Memory

As I went to bed last night and woke up this morning all I can here is people talking about remembering. Do not get me wrong it is important to us all to mourn, remember and celebrate the brave souls that lost their lives on that dark and sunny day, but so many set aside just one day. They are truly patriotic 2, maybe 3 days a year (memorial day, the 4th and 9/11). I am no better some days. I can go about my day caring more about a sports team than thinking about those of US that are putting their lives in the line to protect the mass amounts of idiots here at home. We care so much about sport & entertainment. Spending billions if not trillions to support entertainers, yet we ignore out protectors, shun them because they have been broken by wars they did not start. I did not grow up in a military family, but some very special people in my life have been. From my fraternity brothers in the Rangers/seal, to my friends who just finished ROTC, to a WWII veteran that was a POW in Japan that helped my family because he could, These are heroes. But they are not the only heroes. Their families, the teachers, police officers, and first responders a heroes in their own right. We have so many heroes that we live with every day. Too often lately I am brought to the conclusion that we are our own worst enemy. We divide ourselves by viewpoints without having any chance at true dialogue. As children, if we disagreed we would be put in a room until we could finally get along. Yet today we give our money to the Kardassians, Biebers and GaGas of the world. And ignore to pass on the true principles of why we are such an amazing country. Our heroes past and present fought for our rights... Yet instead of making things better, we allow ourselves to be complacent and sink into a darkness that is unacceptable. So while we promise to never forget that faithful day we must always remember who we were and who we want to be.
