Let’s face it, oil painting is an EXPENSIVE hobby. One of the biggest challenges I’ve faced with learning how to oil paint is figuring out how to practice without spending TONS of money on canvases. With just a few supplies, you can prep almost any kind of sturdy paper for oil painting and practice your skills without breaking the bank! This prep technique works wonderfully with acrylic paint too!

It has been FOREVER since I’ve posted here but I hope you guys will come along for this new challenge of mine! Goal Updates

Hi everyone!

I feel like every time I post something lately I feel the need to apologize but...my apologies for being so flaky on my tumblr over the past 6 months or so. There's been a lot of (mostly positive!) changes and my tumblr has basically sat on the back burner. I've been trying to find a good routine that ensures I have enough time to work out, work full time, practice and create art and manage all of my social media accounts. I recently decided to invest in HootSuite so hopefully that will make life easier across the board!

If you're not already subscribed to my YouTube channel, I mentioned in my first vlog that I want to put out at least 1 video per week. At this time I don't exactly have a schedule or set date I upload. I just create videos when I can and upload when I can. So far it's been working out quite nicely! I think I've only missed 2 weeks thus far, but I've been able to upload twice the following week to make up for it. With "once a week" being the only rule, I'm able to be much more flexible with my content.

In the future, I would like to have specific uploading schedules and upload videos of specific topics on certian days (Sketch Saturday, Marker Mondays, Fan Art Fridays for examples) but right now just having this open-ended rule has worked wonders for me.

I'm also trying to make more time to sketch and play with my materials. As I mentioned in the "pigtails" video, I often get caught up in the idea that all of my peices need to be perfect the first time around. And when a piece goes in a bad direction, I get incredibly frustrated and tend to give up. In order to curb that habit, I'm considering filming my sketching/play sessions so that A) I get more content for youtube and B) give myself more incentive to practice. I think it'll feel a bit odd filming something I usually don't let others see but it could be interesting!

Within the coming weeks, I'll be making a little announcement in regards to my shoe business (tumblr: walkingworksofart) so stay tuned for that as well!

I've been gaining so much more confidence in my art since joining Tumblr, switching jobs and living on my own, but I know I still have a long way to go. So I hope you wonderful folks will continue to follow along in my journey!
