So, I am writing an essay about what the Pokedex gets wrong for my class. Right now, I am jotting down potential dex entries that are wrong in a blog post. Since I have the Wooloo thing down now, are there any other Pokedex entries that are harmful to the actual Pokémon in any way (Either physically or reputation wise)?
-The idea that Ghost Pokemon used to be human beings has lead to decreased adoption rates for Ghost Types in Pokemon shelters
-Bewear is often targeted by poachers due to their unique fur pattern, and they often get lighter sentences due to the belief that Bewear break people's spines
-The "Banette is a doll that came to life" legend sometimes result in trainers forgetting to feed their Banette, or putting them in washing machines to clean them
A ton of the mega evolution entries are extremely exaggerated. Trust me. Several researchers and I have run tests to make sure these Pokémon aren’t in pain. These entries actually have discouraged some people from using Mega Evolution but they seem to forget that mega evolution is temporary. The max a Pokémon can stay mega evolved is around 20-30 minutes.
A Pokémon does indeed get overwhelmed with excess power but that’s why you have to get approved by the Mega Evo Guru. There’s more to than “oh here’s a stone. Go crazy!” No it’s not that. You have to do special training with your Pokémon before it’s battle ready in their mega form. You and the Pokémon do exercises together to grow closer and so that your Pokémon can withstand the power
While it is true, Aerodactyl are no longer able to fully endure their supposed old strength, they can still very much withstand the change for 30 minutes. I always keep a close eye on my Aerodactyl during my battles
A mega gengar doesn’t actually curse everyone and take everyone’s souls. They don’t go mad with power. But their radius of their cold spot does grow
Mega Pinsir’s entry is really the only one that’s correct aside from skewering things. They’re just caught up in the adrenaline of flight
Sorry bout the long post. I just have a lot to say about mega evolution and the stigma(?) surrounding it
hattrem and hatterene, although possessing empathic telepathy and extreme sensitivity towards the emotions of people and pokémon alike, won't actually go and beat you up if you happen to be crying within 50km of it. actually, if you are in a secluded area with little other people around you, it may try to make its way towards you to help calm you down– so you can stop bothering it with your very loud human emotions; otherwise, it will simply teleport itself away.
honedge, doublade, and aegislash will not steal your life energy with its ribbon– while they are actually covered in digestive enzymes (such as the tentacles of jellyfish and jellyfish-like pokémon), they are unable to feed on intangible concepts such as "souls" or "life energy". their diet mainly consists of insects, vegetation, and most metals.
the pokédex is so unreliable– the best way to learn quickly about pokémon is from published pokézoological encyclopedias. good luck on your essay!
Magikarp aren't physically weak! They don't have the same move capacity as many other pokemon, but that has nothing to do with physical strength. Their muscles make them excellent swimmers and certainly allow them to jump more than seven feet, which is why they're popular sport fish. The actual reason Magikarp congregate downstream of heavy currents is to eat anything that gets swept away by them. Also, Gyarados don't have a structural brain transformation. Anger-induced evolution typically happens when someone infuriates or traumatizes a magikarp enough to induce evolution, and that is a lot simpler of a reason for the resulting gyarados to rampage. Seriously, "structural brain transformation." They're traumatized.
Houndoom burns don't "hurt forever."
While it's true that, if threatened, a houndoom CAN leave you with a nasty burn, that's true of any fire type.
This myth comes from the fact that houndoom's flame mechanism can include some inflammatory agents, and it's possible for these to trigger the onset of arthritis-like symptoms.
However, this is an absolute last ditch effort due to feeling mortally threatened. Houndoom can control their toxin glands and don't hurt people without reason. This is why it's *vitally* important to obedience train your houndour pup well before you even think about evolution. Lack of flame discipline is the number one cause of injury by any fire type, houndour and houndoom included.
Magnemite and its evolutionary line were popularized in Johto as a symbol of the autistic community. It was originally chosen for the fact that magnemite have no mouths (representing nonverbal autistic folks), are often seen as "weird" pokemon with "robotic" actions and emotions (representing the way autistic people have been seen by neurotypical folks) and are often observed to "flap" their magnets when happy (physical stimming).
This spread to other regions when Leader Jasmine rose to fame and revealed that her love of Steel types started with magnemite, a symbol of her community. Since then magnemite has been a symbol for the inter-regional autistic community.
Since the bulb on bulbasaur's bulb is planted after hatching, some breeders personally select different kinds of plants for their hatchlings. Because of this many people who take plant-sourced medications have a medical bulbasaur, specifically planted with a bulb that synthesizes the medicinal substances they need.
In recent years, as more medications have been able to be synthesized in plants, this has become a preferred method of medication for many patients. Not only does bulbasaur make a great companion and prevent lonliness and isolation, many are taught to remind their owners to take their meds and give them a proper dose, preventing under- or over- dosing.
Disabled Pokemon Trainer Headcanon #3
A mute trainer being mocked by peers and told they couldn’t train pokemon since they couldn’t say commands. They find other very creative ways to communicate, making it hard for opponents to counter attacks because they always rely on verbal cues.
Pokemon Adapted Sign language would likely be pretty common, especially in the upper levels of battling, to allow pokemon to understand their trainers in loud environments like packed battle arenas. It may require more modification for some species than others to reply, but most pokemon are trained to understand at least rudimentary sign.
how do i know if my pokemon are trans?
They’ll tell you!
Most Pokémon in the wild don’t differentiate between genders whatsoever. They look the same and act the same, so it doesn’t really matter. However, some Pokémon have differing appearances between male and female, and some Pokémon don’t like this. Some examples of this include Pikachu trying to attach things to their tails to get it the right shape, and Luxray gathering their shed fur and attaching them to make a longer mane. They act very similar to transgender humans, and it is generally accepted that they are trans as well!
If you have a Pokémon that displays these traits, supply them with the materials and tools they need to alter their appearance, and they will live a long and happy life.
While wild ghost types of old would feed on the souls of the deceased, this isn’t a dietary necessity. In fact, captive ghost types should be discouraged from this behavior as it leads to severe overeating and can cause your ghost pokemon to become lethargic or start acting out.
Instead, your pet gengar, litwick, or other ghost will get plenty of sustenance from your various emotions. Trainers who keep ghost types say that this causes a pleasant tickling sensation in the mind. For this reason, specially-trained ghost types often work with those who have anxiety or depression, eating negative emotions and thoughts.
Many people who would otherwise need wheelchairs to get around have custom saddles made for their larger pokemon. Due to concerns over temperament issues of very large pokemon and possible damage to their surroundings, this is one kind of accessibility pokemon that must be certified, but the process is relatively simple.
In Sinnoh, grotle and torterra are very common applicants among league challengers, and the Solaceon area has its share of ponyta. The most interesting pokemon I had the pleasure of certifying was a ten foot long scolipede, who passed with flying colors and was one of the most affectionate bugs I’ve met to this day.
Despite some popular culture making dark types seem evil or dangerous, many are actually wonderful companions. Notably, the murkrow and houndoom lines are needlessly demonized, the former labeled as a thief for taking items that they are curious about, the latter thought of as violent and dangerous due to the history of mistreatment that they face.
