Anyway, this was Wilbur the entire time during that hunting party arc. I drew this immediately after finishing that behemoth of a fic. And to think it's not even halfway finished yet! Insane!

Sirens can't really drown. There are technicalities where they could but its a nitty gritty little one offs
Deep Sea Mer can't drown or get crushed by water pressure, Ice Mer can't freeze or drown, Fire Mer dont drown and dont burn, even if they swim in magma
So why does Wilbur drown as a Sootling? Because Sootlings are *technically* not Mers! They're a low tier cousins of a cousin of Mers and Sirens!
The logic is a bit like pokemons? Well, most games have such system. But, you start with some low level tier race and then evolve once you hit requirements!

Right now, Wilbur is very close to being a human! He just has a couple dozen little quirks but its mostly things like claws, soot, or the smoke and some stuff about the voice!

perhap this is too spoilery in which case carry on good sir etc but I lovveee tinvim so much and im so curious about the differences between the elytrian types!! we know almost nothing about singers, except that Wilbur’s never had a chance to fulfill that role, and that phil reacts to Wil’s #fakedeadwife being a singer like it’s something Espesially sad to lose/something to be protected, and then when he’s getting outed by ponk wilbur mentions that it’s a communal and archaic role and im sooo curious. my assumption is it’s like a bit of a caregiver position, like somebody who keeps up morale and gives encouragement, somebody to rally around that helps keep the flock together, possibly in part because of beautiful singing voice. which would make sense since the other roles we know about are emperor (leader?) gatherer (provider) workers (manual labor/strength focused?), which leave space for the classic jester style role of silly guy who makes everybody happy. if im anywhere close-ish to the truth, then it’s so deeply funny that wil’s entire brand is being an annoying little shit. shoutout to the Heart of the flock who causes problems on purpose.

Buckle up, its time for some world building about elytrians in TinViM!
SO
The basic classes (that I have finally figured out and written out beyond emperors and singers lmao) are as is:
Emperors
Singers
Workers
Gatherers
Scavengers (fighters)
Drones
Theres usually only 1 emperor per flock bc they are highly competitive and will murder other emperors trying to yonks their flock
Workers are valued due to the work they provide creating nests, preparing food and childcare, as well as all other tasks inside the nest area/around flock.
Then there are gatherers, who are not as valuable, which is why they are "allowed" to get outside the nest and flock and gather needed materials. Gatherers are not required role, which means that without a gatherer, emperor can easily take over those tasks
Then there are Scavengers. They are the role beneath gatherers- those are the fighters and soldiers. They are usually needed only when flock is in especially unsteady standing. Like when trying to steal people from someones else's flock, or to kill off an especially dangerous predator. But once more, not essential, emperor usually takes care of all those tasks
Aaand Drones. Drones do nothing. Only in great abundance Drones become an available role. They're the leeches, they dont do anything, except be there. They are usually the first ones to be stolen by other emperors and then forced through second puberty to get another role
Elytrians get 1st puberty like humans, then 2nd to grow wings around 15/16 and then if they're a drone, can get whacked by a third puberty to regrow them. Oof to them
But yall want to know about Singers
Singers are the inherently social role! They're slightly less rare than emperors and having a singer in a flock is a big flex. Or at least it is in the book universe and the past, in Ash's time it sadly really became a really archaic role that no one cares about
Singers, as you put together, are the Heart of the Flock. They are the mediators, jesters, cuddle bears and antistressors for all the members. They thrive of the attention!
They are also magically gifted. Beside the usual pocket dimension where the elytrians wings hide under elytra, singers also undergo a change in their throat during the second puberty. Their voice gets changed- not necessarily for singing
No no no. Singers do not *sing* with that voice.
Singers *screech*. Singers are the early warning system about any incoming danger.
An adult singer can screech loud enough to be heard across several kilometres, and can injure the hearing of people around them.
They are usually really primed to sense danger (anxiety cough-) and are the first ones to warn the flock and their emperor about the danger. They are also the fastest, to haul ass away from said danger lmao

Planet Crafter Au, where Philza Hardcore Minecraft is a reoffender against corporations, who managed to terraform TWO planets already.
A feat no one else achieved before! For most people, planet crafting, terraforming, is the last resort. The deal is offered when it's all or nothing- a death sentence, or a prolonged death sentence in a kind. But here's Philza Hardcore Minecraft, the man, the legend!
When he has done it the first time, it was impressive. People across galaxy knew Planet Crafting is difficult and there is a reason why new planets that don't start off habitable don't often get added to the Galaxy servers. He's been noticed, but in a series of "Oh wow, good for him".
The corporation who sentenced him of course found A TON of refractions that they added once he was out. So he did get out of the worst of it but they still saddled him with a lot of debt, the sort that usually chained a person to the corpo for eternity. But Philza, as a stubborn bastard that he is, managed to offset the debt, switch it up and wipe it.
But Philza, besides being stubborn, is also *smart*. So on the side, he started preparing things, getting allies and materials... And he was right to do so.
Because he got caught doing crimes against ANOTHER corporation. And as a reoffender, he once more got put before a choice: planet crafter or death sentence.
Everyone thought he'd fail.
But he didn't.
Even if illegal, he managed to get *some* help from outside- which was a refraction but those who played by corpo rules, died because of them. Philza didn't plan on dying. He built one world from scratch, he would do it again.
When he emerged victorious, he definitely garnered fame. Two worlds!! Even people who cared rats ass about new planets knew it was a huge deal. Even though the corpos were extremely dismayed by it, people began calling the planets Philza terraformed "Hardcore", not the corporate chosen name. Philza *mattered*.
It was only a matter of time before Philza would get sentenced again, he knew. He became famous but not any less foul mouthed. He still bitched at corpos and did not stop working against them whenever he could. And with a following as large as he garnered? It was a matter of time before they got to him and sent him to a truly uninhabitable world, one that he would not manage to fix.
But it was worth it in his eyes.
Imagine his surprise when he goes to the courtroom and sees a mass of fans... But not only his fans. Imagine the shock he feels when he learns that a lot of strings got pulled and he got placed before easier judge.
When he learned that this time he won't be sent solo but with three other.
Three others are obviously Techno, Wilbur and Tommy
Techno is a very young adult, maybe 19-20, and a prodigy, superstar in the fighting community. He has dominated fighting tournaments in his age groups and then also above his age groups, gathering following, sponsors and fame
Wilbur is same age as Techno (twinsduo my beloved). Hes a music star, he has a solo carrier as well as a band. Hes been singing since childhood and his concerts are bringing millions in. He, similarly to Techno, has huge following, lots of sponsors, and he is very famous
Tommy is younger, maybe 14-15. He would be sort of streamer? He yaps and plays games and tests things out and sure, some of his sponsors are not subtle about giving him specific stuff to rave over, but the kid is genuine enough. People love his energy. Other kids love him. Millions watch him anytime he hits the stream
But now they're all in big legal trouble bc they all individually screwed a corporation over. The same corporation that Philza poked this time.
Techno has psychological issues, he hears Voices and they yearn the blood. He didn't even realise what he's done before the highly televised tournament turned into a massacre, and then destruction of half warehouses on the planet. He cost the corpo *billions*
Wilbur, despite the young age, dropped pretty hard into substance abuse. Hes been pulled away by his pr team- but he got something new before a concert. Just for the sake of old times, just for the nerves... During the concert he stopped singing and recited a manifesto against corporations, spilling many dirty secrets before the feed could be cut. But people at the concert? They heard it all.
Tommy was just angry. They took away his best friend. They took another. They forced him to work with some dickhead. They forced him to play with toys he didn't like. They trashed a project he was really proud of. They ignored him when he spoke... so then he spoke to his audience. He told them to not support that corporation. He described everything he's experienced-- And sure, his audience was mainly kids. But the corpo knows that you have to raise and groom your future clients. Tommy cost them their future billions.
And so now, they all are in trouble....
